Going to spring training
QUOTE(sin city sox fan @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) I'll be at those games on the 17th and 18th....than heading up to Phoenix to see them play the Brewers and Royals on Sunday and Monday. I can't wait....just 3 1/2 weeks til roadtrip time! I'm at the games against the Brewers and Royals as well as the Ranger game. Just going to Tuscon for the Rangers game since we stay in Mesa. Royals have an awesome facility if you've never been to it and the Brewers is very nice as well (only been to each once, but I remember the Brewers one had real good food).

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 08:32 AM) I was at a bar on Friday night and people were openly laughing at her. She was so far ahead, and then decided to put on a show for the crowd instead of just racing for the line. Then afterwards the goofy story about how she wasnt hotdogging it. That she grabbed her board to make it land quicker. Well next time dear, please dont arch and tilt the board so you can do a "Grab 120 Fakee" when you have 50 meters to go for Gold. Not that this bothers me but it was an easy trick. It would be like being on a wide open breakaway and missing a slam dunk in a sense. It wasn't like she was going for a windmill dunk. It just happened to bite her in the ass, but the world thinks its this complicated trick because Bob Costas Mr. Jackass told us so. I swear he thinks he knows everything about every sport enough to comment on the level of difficutly of stupid moves. Leave that up to the pro's and people that do the sport. She screwed up but people like him are the reason it gets blown out of proportion. Take this from someone who snowboards about once a week during the winter and someone that has a sister thats sponsored in the very sport. It was a routine move, much like a slam dunk as opposed to taking a layup. I should add I'm not slamming you irish, just making a comment cause Costas has been ticking me off.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 08:25 AM) I could see how he may have had a hard time at first. But the harder barrier for him probably came from within his own race. I'm not sure where he grew up but if he went to a predominately black school its a guarantee he got ripped for climbing into one of those one piece suits and going ice skating. Like any sport, regardless of the color of your skin it takes time to make your way. For him it was probably 10 times more difficult. No one knows enough of the background history to make any judgements and instead of this being a great, defying the odd story, it has become a huge pissing party. Just like any white male in high school would have gotten crap if he told his friends he did figure skating or did that dance contest (even if his partner was a hot girl). Fact of the matter is if it was a race issue its simply the fact that his own race was giving him s***. I don't hear people making fun of tiger for being black or asian despite the fact there are like zero african american golfers on the tour and I doubt he ever got crap at Stanford. Sure there are racists here and there but its more in his case the race stereotype he had to get passed. Male cheerleaders have to get passed the gender stereotype. Everyone goes through it so quit with the poor me stuff. Nothing pisses me off more.

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 08:17 AM) Did you see her father's face...?? I thought he was going to have a stroke. When did the Olympics stop being an honor to these jerks? That girl wanted it badly. Watch most of the events and you'll see in the ski/snowboard style events people usually do some sort of mini trick as they get near the finish line if they are up big. Unfortunately she went off the jump wrong from the get go (she would have probably fallen regardless) cause it was awkward from the start. She never said anything wrong either, imo. Now these fools and Bodie or Bode now thats a disgrace. And in the midst of all these disgraceful athletes lets not forget Kildow whose just gutted the olympics out. She won't win anything but thats a positive story regardless. The media just talks about the few stupid things that happen instead of the good stuff. But thats the media.

Big 10 in the Big Dance
If any team makes it to the final 4 its gonna be MSU. OSU is a sleeper and I think Iowa/Illinois/OSU/MSU/Wiscy are all capable of being sweet 16 teams. If I was going to see any team getting knocked out super early it would be Michigan or Iowa but if Iowa can play at a high level they are very capable thanks to there defense (just like Illinois).

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 09:13 PM) I'm not looking to pile on here, but let's be honest, why was Illinois ranked 8th in the country? They have one victory over a team that was ranked in the top 25 when they played them. Compare to #20-22 Iowa, who has 8 wins over teams ranked in the top 25 (when the game was played) Sure, Illinois only has 5 losses, but they played exactly one tough non-conference game, and that was for the ACC-Big10 challenge. IMO, I'd have OSU and Mich state ranked about 12-14. Iowa and Illinois 16-18, Wiscy 22nd and Mich recieving votes. One think about Iowa is I'm pretty sure we rank 3rd in the country in wins over top 25 teams (behind Uconn and Duke). Of course I'm not about to put Iowa in the top 10 but if the Illini belong there than I'd have to say we do too. I agree with your rankings though sans MSU. I've long said I have no idea why the Illini are ranked as high as they are. I think MSU is the most talented team in the conference but they haven't consistently played that way and I'd have both Iowa and Illinois ahead of them in the polls.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) I'm hearing the Wolves could get as many as 3 first round picks as well. Still an awful trade. Especially when you consider we have their pick this year. It would be a great move by the Knicks though. Regardless of the number of picks they give up. Really dumb by the Twolves. If the Wolves are serious about dealing KG, than the Bulls should be serious about acquiring him.

Drew Brees
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) I dont mind overpaying for Brees if it gives us a good QB actually.... since Brees might not be ready at the begining of the season we will see what we have in Grossman anyways....This team is ready to win now and dont think we should let 1 position hold us back no matter the cost. Most things I have read said he will be near full strength at mini camps. So by the sounds of it he should be ready to go by training camp.

Drew Brees
If all indications are that he's going to heal? I'm more than willing to throw money his way. Maybe find a way to structure the contract so that if he is seriously injured the team has the ability to cut him early in the contract, but if he proves he's healthy he gets a good sized roster bonus in a year that will make it a very very good contract for Bree's in the latter years (one where after the 1st year or so he's assured to get very good money). I have no doubt that I'd rather have Brees at the helm as opposed to Grossman. I like Rex a lot, but I'm not about to sit around when an impact QB is available and thats exactly what Brees is. Drew has been one of the better quarterbacks in the league the past two years and isn't yet in his prime. I should add I wouldn't mind picking up Pennington if he's cut (assuming it would be a very minimal type contract). Chad's obviously had a ton of health issues, but lets not forget qb's going down with arm injuries for a long period are very rare (so don't mix Brees with Pennington, imo). If I'm the Bears I have zero problem looking long and hard at upgrading the QB position. Its the key position on the offensive side of the field and we've shown that we can't keep the position healthy. If they can't find an upgrade than I have no problem sticking with our guys, but let it be known I think we should still invest some of our cap (we have plenty of it) in a backup QB. Hell Jon Kitna wouldn't be a bad option at all.

McCarthy forgoes cutter for two-seamer
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) The kid is a baseball genius and he comes by it naturally. Listening to his clinic you could tell Bmac is a sponge of every baseball mind he has ever been around. And a true perfectionist. I really liken him to the type of guy Greg Maddux was when it came to executing. We'll see if he can have that sort of career (it would be pretty awesome). I love how calm and confident he is on the mound.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws Man I think I reported that a few months ago Well the gist of that. I need to get back off my ass and start writing. But I think this is smart of Brandon. The pen is a totally different role and it would be hard to get comfortable in the pen and work on a new pitch. That said I wouldn't be shocked if he toys with the new pitch during spring training just a bit, but I wouldn't expect to see him use it much (he'll probably toy with it again over the off-season and than next spring).

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) KU would absolutely destroy zaga imo. I actually think Illinois would be able to take them down as well, a team that plays no offense vs a team that plays no defense. I'll take the team that plays d. In most instances I agree, not in the Illini's case. They are too dependent on one guy. Morrison is a stud, but Batista is pretty damn solid as well. On a unrelated sidenote, Pepperdine's leading scorer last night Forehan Kelly was on my schools amazing high school basketball team (same year as me). It was cool seeing he finally caught on somewhere cause I always thought he was a pretty damn solid player.

Iguchi out of WBC to concentrate on offense
QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) The final rosters are not due until March 2. He's on the provisional roster right now, and all those players are the ones listed. He might not make the final team. The Dominicans need a catcher, and another OF to round out the lineup. This is the potential they have right now: 1B: Pujols 2B: Soriano SS: Tejada 3B: Aramis Ramirez/Beltre DH: Big Papi OF: Manny Ramirez OF: Vlad Pitchers: Colon and Martinez Stoneman is trying to force Colon and Escobar out of the games. I don't blame him either.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) Damn, that says Uribe is playing. I'd much rather him come to ST and work on being in the #2 slot. Damn WBC. Yay for 5,000. I don't care as much about hitters going. I care about the pitchers going.

QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) Agree on the announcers, and I agree that Gonzaga is overrated, but as much as I think he is a punk, when a team in college basketball has someone that can score like Morrison can, they could be in every game they play. From an Illinois perspective, Randle could control Morrison if he could avoid fouls, and Kansas certainly plays very solid defense, but to claim a double digit win seems rash. I do believe both teams are better than Gonzaga, but Morrsion is damn good. KU may beat the Zags but I don't think Ill would.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 08:04 AM) Couple of trades that Chad Ford suggested in an article on ESPN: Deng, Duhon, Thomas, Pike, Allen, and both 1st rounders for Garnett and Jaric Gordon, Duhon, Thomas, Pike, and Knicks' pick for Pierce and LaFrentz Obviously the Bulls are giving up a ton in both deals. I think I can live with the Garnett one because we are getting one of the best players in the league and Jaric is a serviceable guard. We'd probably have to go after another forward to really make it work, but I'm not sure how much cap space we'd have left. The second deal I don't like so much. LaFrentz is fairly useless and expensive, and it seems like a bit much to include the Knicks' pick. If it were our pick that would seem better for us, and I don't think it'd be a deal breaker for the Celtics. 1st won I'd do in a heart-beat. Second one I'd do if we could make it our pick and not the Knicks or make the Knicks pick top 3 protected. Why would I do it. Its pretty obvious that Pierce >>> Gordon/Duhon and well LaFrentz is just a filler but solid enough and who cares about Thomas/Pike (even though I like Pike). I'd be all over the Garnett deal, especially cause I like Jaric. He could replace Duhon as the backup PG and get minutes at the 2 as well.

IU Coaching News
QUOTE(HoosierSox @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 05:56 AM) How about bringing Mike Montgomery and Keith Smart to IU. With Smart being the eventual replacement for Montgomery. A darkhorse guy that intrigues me is Darrin Horn from Western Kentucky. He has recruited Indiana and is young and has done a pretty good job rebuilding Western Kentucky. Mike Mont is a real quality coach and did a great job at Stanford. That said I think he's doing a solid job at Golden State and I don't see him leaving.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) I would venture to say that his wife added as the mouthpiece. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/buck/jun00/...t15s1061500.asp Glen always said his wife spoke alone on that matter. His wife was a freaking nut. Maybe even more so than Kendra Davis. Glen Rice's wife always was mad that the media blamed Glen and never liked the trade. I don't think you'll ever say Phil wished Glen was Scottie. They couldn't get Scottie.
