Damaso Marte could be headin to the Dodgers
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 10:50 PM) If you're a team desperate for a power hitting OF like the Pirates, no wonder they're interested in Bradley. And Jim Tracy has probably told Dave Littlefield what he's like in the clubhouse etc. Not to be picky, but I don't know why people ignored what I said. Jim Tracy has told the Pirates he WANTS Milton Bradley. He always got along with Bradley and would talk him up down in LA and say that the media would overblow stuff. Jim Tracy is backing this move and he wants him. That should say that a lot of the stuff regarding Bradley is totally overblown.

TEJADA
Honestly, if the Sox had a younger El Duque I'd make that proposed deal (well Freddy) although I'd hold onto Uribe as a super sub (this is in a make believe world). But the Sox aren't in position to deal Frederico (even though I have my doubts as to his long term durability, although I hope I'm wrong).

TEJADA
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) ditto! ^^^^ Its typical for the Red Sox and Cubs to go after a guy like that. Yep- TRASH there farm system for a 'super star' player. If the Sox had a huge hole at SS or were still in need for a big time bat, I'd be really high on giving up a few top notch prospects for Tejada. The guy is arguably the best shortstop in baseball and unlike some of them he's signed to a very fair deal (basically Konerko's deal). He's above average offensively and defensively and is a hard working player (although he stunk to finish the season but so did everyone on Bmore). Tejada is a very good player and would be a big time pickup for the BoSox, Cubs or any other team looking to get better.

Cubs could have interest in Tejada
Just want to point out that the Angels have supposedly had prelinary discussions with the O's about Tejada. The O's have said that Cabrerra and a 1st base prospect (the Angels would like it to be Erstad, but the O's would like Kochman) would likely get the deal done. The Angels have also had serious talks with the O's about a Javy Lopez for Darin Erstad swap.

2006 Barons
From whats been hinted, it sounds as if Fields is going to start the season in AAA, which means Schnur will be at 3rd in AA.

Damaso Marte could be headin to the Dodgers
It should say something that his former manager Jim Tracy wants to get him back. All the stuff out here says that he's likely to go to Pittsburgh and that Jim Tracy wants him on his team. I think that says that maybe Jeff Kent was more of the problem, but since we aren't a part of the clubhouse all we can do is speculate. My dad would be pissed if Marte was a Dodger. He's forced to watch a lot of Sox games and always wondered why the hell we would continue to throw him out there late last year.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) Alright! A Stockton and Malone prop right there! I think there's one thing all of us can agree on. Chicago got a hell of a deal with the trade in getting Pippen for Polynice I want to say. I've long said if it weren't for Jordan and Pippen the Jazz would have won at least 3 champions and Karl Malone may have been the greatest player ever and they would have been the best duo ever.

Available Lefty: Ricardo Rincon
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) I dunno, Dotel is a headcase isn't he? I know there is a reason Houston traded him back in 04. IMO, a lefty is a more "pressing" need in the pen right now. Rincon is definitely a guy I would go after hard. If not, then maybe KW would look at Ishii and turn him into a fulltime reliever. Houston dealt him because they didn't want to pay him big bucks (at the time he looked as if he was due to get big bucks in a year or two) plus they had to free money for other things. They also wanted to slide the cheaper Brad Lidge into the closers role.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) Dotel may not be ready until mid-season. I'd expect him to wind up on a team like the Cardinals who need set-up men. He could be one of those signings thats almost like a mid-season pick up and if he's healthy it gives you a fresh arm down the stretch (and a good one at that). I think a wise move would be a 1yr deal with a 2nd and 3rd option year or something. Any other quality righties out there?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) Dotel is a FA??? And if it were a righty KW looks at, I think he should consider Jeff Nelson or Ben Weber. These are the kinds of guys that fit on the Sox...and if all else fails, I have no problem with bringing Kelly Wunsch back. Others I would consider: Shigetoshi Hasegawa Danny Graves Chris Hammons Antonio Osuna All losers. No offense. Graves was horrid this past year. Hammons (isn't he a lefty?) has no stuff and is washed up (maybe he put up good numbers, hell I never knew how he put up good numbers but he did a couple years). Shiggy hasn't been a good reliever in a few years Ben Weber is god awful Jeff Nelson is an old fart Dotel wasn't great last year, but he's still young, has a power arm, and has above average stuff (plus he's been able to pitch). He's actually got ability and consideringh is injury (and the fact that hte Sox have depth) I think he'd be a nice guy to look at. I have no idea if he's expected back at the start of the season, but he's be a nice insurance plan and could be a good arm in the pen (although I'm sure he'd want to go to a team where he'd have a better shot at closing).

Lakers @ bulls.
QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) Your friend needs to be slapped with a frying pan. Agreed and this is coming from someone that wasn't a huge Pippen fan. That said he's one of the greatest all time players (definately belongs on the 50 greatest list) and if the Bulls didn't have Jordan he'd have probably been the 3rd best player in the 90s (behind Stockton and Malone who would have been the greatest duo ever as far as I'm concerned). Pippen was a stud defensively (one of the all time best defenders), was good offensively (I thought he took too many 3's, but he made the big ones) and was a very good passer. Plus the man knew how to use the backboard. He should have been the MVP in 94 when the Bulls lost to the Knicks in 7 at the garden.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) Stockon is considered to be the best pure point guard in nba history by many, many people. I think he's the best Pg of all time. Although I must say Magic gets some consideration, but I consider Magic more of a hybrid player. I think Stockton was better than Kidd, although Kidd is a pretty darn amazing player.

Holy cripes. Mitch Wylie. Hell, I didn't even know the former Sox was still around, let alone was going to be a Rule V pick at the major league level.

Interesting story about Cubs' Furcal failure
It would have been more than 5 million. My guess is it would have taken a couple million a year increase. He's getting 13 million a year right now for 3 more years. The Cubs off (according to Offman) would be 9.5 million. Thats 3.5 million a year less than Furcal got. Now it was for two more years. Because of that I could see them taking a 1.5 mill a year discount. My belief is it would have taken a minimum of 2 million a year more (for a total value of 10 million over the life of the contract). Thats not exactly a small amount. It may have taken more like 5yr 60 million to get him signed. Just to make matters that, I and a few others on this board have as many sources as Offman do (offman isn't exactly a rumors expert, although he has improved the past year or so).

Available Lefty: Ricardo Rincon
I wouldn't mind looking at Dotel (don't know how much he's looking for). He's coming off an injury and isn't a great closer, but he'd have closers experience and could come in and be a good setup man (a great one if he's healthy). Plus if Jenks or Hermy falter you have a really good backup plan.

a new favorite?
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) I have had a man crush on two players. Kelly Wunsch and AJ. Other than that, like Rowand said, there have been players here that I have liked more than others, but not a favorite. I'm more the type of person that has players he hates. Jose Valentin was long that guy for me. Contreras was looking to be that guy but he impressed me so much last season (even during his struggles). Right now I can't say I hate any one guy. Marte pissed me off a lot last year as did Timo at times. As far as favorites. Mine is hands down Paul Konerko (Buehrle/Garl and Cotts are next). I'm also a big Neal Cotts fan (was a huge Arow fan), definately like AJ's gamesmanship, love Crede's defense and flat love watching Juan play the game. I'm less of a fan of Iguchi than any other starter on the Sox. He has a pretty swing at times, but I don't think anyone whiffs as ugly as he can (that includes Crede).

Bajenaru will be a quality reliever at the major league level. Won't be great, won't be horrid. He'll develop and get a shot somewhere and finally stick.

Was between us and yankees for myers
QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) What this tells me is the White Sox feel that none of Arnie Munoz, Paulino Reynoso, or Corwin Malone are in the immediate plans for 2006. Nor should they be. Malone is still working his way back, Munoz is a joke and Reynoso has a hell of an arm but has no idea where the ball is going. I'm overly harsh on Munoz, but he has lost his arm slot for that curve and isn't the pitcher he was two years ago. He could figure it out again though. If the Sox want another lefty they need to look outside the organization. I wouldn't be shocked for them to pick up another quality RH reliever. I think they have some concerns and its always smart to make sure you have depth in the pen.
