  1. Burroughs wouldn't be a bad Blum replacement. He also has some upside (still) and would be a good backup plan to Crede (in case his back does flare up and really bother him). I just don't know if burroughs would accept that role. He's supposed to be a quality individual though (although the fans don't like him much since he's a bust). Of course Mueller would be beter, I just don't know how the Sox can afford that.
  2. It doesn't work so I don't even know what it is.
  3. QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 06:19 PM) So it came down to Ryan Meaux for 3 mos of Blum. I'll drink to that
  4. Thats a definate angle the Sox could work.
  5. Its BS, they should be able to play in the elements.
  6. I think the Sox could pretty much trade Duque and a mid level guy for Klesko at this point so it wouldn't be a bad plan D.

    Summer Internships

QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) Any of the other college guys got an advice for me? Any good websites to help w/ my search? Past experiences. Possible connections? I did an internship this past summer and it was definately a great experience/opportunity. I ended up talking to a few firm members at a Meet the Firms event (held at my school for accounting students interested in the big accounting firms) and met a few people in the business and asked about internships and they told me to email them there resumes. I did and a month or two passed and I got invited for an interview and lunch and all that good stuff. It was a few interview process, but everything was well worth it. I was treated exactly like I would have been if I were a full time person (with the exception that they refused to work me more than 40 hr's cause if they did I'd have made about 40 bucks an hour). After the whole experience was done (I had a national training for a week and than a 5-6 week work period) they offered me a job (I know in my line of work thats typical and unless you really screw up an internship your going to get an offer). I didn't end up taking the offer, but I have a lot of contacts in that company and in the future if I want to go back there I'm pretty sure I'll be able to. So for all these reasons above, I definately commend you for taking the initiative and going after an internship (it will definately set you a notch ahead when you graduate and go after your 1st career). As far as finding an internship, join one of those business clubs that fits into your major. I did and it was the best thing I could have done for my career (aside from get good grades). I was able to find out so much about my industry as well as meet tons of other firm members (from different firms) to give me an advantage over the competition (your fellow students). These clubs also get emailed with internship opportunities that open up and will email you (if your a member) which gives you a head start. The other thing to do is go to your schools career center. THey should have a ton of internships posted on there and you'll just search for firms that fit in your industry. If you got any other questions Steve, just ask and good luck in your search. I'm sure you'll get some opportunities
  8. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) Wouldn't any deal for Thome be precluded by a clean bill of health? One that I'm assuming will not be readily available for some time (spring training even?). He's gotta prove that he can play otherwise he's just as big if not a bigger risk than bringing back Frank. I think Thome is right around 100% right now. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  9. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 09:56 AM) As of a few weeks ago, the Pads we very concered in finding a CF that was great with the glove. Looks like they got him. Like Milkman just said however, Nady does seem like a pretty prized player to give up, but we shall see. Nady is a good player with potential, but he's yet to play everyday and a healthy Mike Cameron is one of the better offensive outfielders in the game. My guess is you'll soon see Ryan Klesko on his way out. In fact, Klesko may not be a bad backup plan if the Sox can't find any other DH's (he'll come cheap in terms of players given up and the Pads would probably eat a bit of his contract). As far as I'm concerned, if Mike Cameron is healthy this is an outstanding trade by the Pads.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 06:00 PM) Arod is a pretty darn good 3rd baseman and range factor and zone rating won't convince me otherwise. Thats the way I see it. I just know in the games I've watched he's looked very good over at the hot corner. I think sometimes those stats can be skewed. I can't say how in this case, but for all I know there weren't that many balls hit to 3rd base due to some odditiy by Yankee pitching (maybe they all throw really hard so not as many guys pull the ball???).
  11. I'm thinking I'm gonna hit up a series in Bmore and Cincy this year. Its funny, the only vacations I take every year involve the Sox, lol.
  12. QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) Jason, LOL, it sounds like your stadium likes and dislikes are dictated by the chow!! They all feel really good to me in March, when it's cold here and 80 degrees there I will say the absolute worst to get in and out of for parking, traffic, etc. is ... you guessed it ... Ho Ho Kam in Mesa. What a mess. Most of the other parks are adjacent to or very near the freeway system which makes things really easy. One really nice thing about the Peoria facility is how they treated my dad, a senior citizen. They had a couple of golf carts patrolling the parking lots and asked him if he'd like to hop a ride up to the entrance gates. He thought that was great. I actually like Hi Corbett - you are really close to the field and you can hear everything. I agree with you on that fact about Hi Corbett. I remember walking over and sitting right in the front row while the pitchers were warming out on the rubber (its got the ones down each line between 3rd and the outfield wall) and I could have just about reached out and grabbed them (they were so close). Yep, aside from baseball the food is one of my favorite parts of the trip. There are so many great spots to eat in the Phoenix area and than the stadiums all have some good chow. Overall Peoria is really awesome, only reason I rank Surprise higher is I happened to roam into the back area (the fence was open and I walked right through it, not realizing it was a restricted area). I end up walking past Arod (Just me and him and I just said hey, good luck) and than go into this batting cage area and watch Arod and some minor leaguers hit for a few. I'm there for about an hr and I now am trying to get back into the stadium but the gate I went through is now locked. I end up walking around confused for a minute or two (Trying to find another way in) and finally this guy stops me (he had seen me a few times) and I'm like, how do I get back into the park. He asks me who I am (curious, because he thought I belonged here) and I explained it to him and he laughed saying he just assumed I was the owners son or something. The thing is, for those that haven't been, almost every stadium (especially the Sox and Mariners complexes) allow you to go into the minor league sections and just watch them do the drills (kind of neat for those real big baseball nerds like myself). Best food hands down has to be Peoria. They got everything from Burrito's to Sausages to Pita's. And its all damn good. Every year we go to Peoria (or Tempe) on our way back to Cali because it gives us about a 15-20 minute jump start home. I also have to thank all the senior citizens who volunteer at the parks. They single handedly help make spring training what it is. Without them the teams would have to charge more and it probably woudln't be as great of an experience for so many fans. They all volunteer and most are big time baseball fans and very friendly people (often times they have some good stories too or if your an autograph person they can tell you some good spots to go).
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) You??? Do you really want me to answer But they all know I'm incredibly lazy.
  14. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) Yah, but what do those guys at FutureSox know? You??? Do you really want me to answer
  15. Not a surprise. I will always cheer for Blum to do well. Thanks for an awesome hit Geoff, you'll never be forgotten by Sox fans.
  16. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) You make an excellent point. But, I have been one of those consitently expecting a very similar 2005/2006 payroll. Anyway you cut it, that would mean a major jump in payroll, yes? Unless, of course, some Sox player with a larger contract is included in the deal--and spitballing, I can't come up with that scenario. Not probable. Not impossible. But, not probable. As far as I'm concerned the 2006 minimum payroll will be 85 million and If the Sox are able to get a deal for Delgado/Thome (ie, one that makes sense in terms of players given up) you'll see the payroll allowed to go closer to 90 million.
  17. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) So I suppose they could beat them convincingly head-to-head? ISU was better when they played Iowa and they are the second/third best team in the Big 12 right now, despite a quarterback going through Gary Pinkel's Syndrome. Aside from Texas the Big 12 blows. The 5th or 6th best team in the Big 10 is better than the 2nd best team in the Big 12, imo.
  18. QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) You kidding? Pierre would be the worst defender in just about any outfielder (maybe, just maybe, Damon would be lower than him) Ummm...Damon isn't what he once was, but for a long time he was an upper echelon defensive outfielder. There is no way Damon is the worse defender in all of baseball, nor is Juan Pierre. Just because neither have good arms, doesn't mean they are bad defenders.
  19. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Alright, let's pull it in just a little bit. Do NOT expect to see both Konerko and Thome etched in the same 2006 lineup together on the Southside of Chicago. Thome would be a member of the Pale Hose, if, and only if, Konerko's contract demand can not be met, or the Sox wish to part ways with Paulie. You will not be seeing both in the same lineup...at least not in Black and Silver. From the sounds of it the Sox aren't waiting on Thome. They'd jump on him and hope the Konerko situation worked itself out. The last thing the white Sox want to do is have Konerko walk and have zero options at 1st and DH. If that happens opposing GM's have all the bargaining power because they know the Sox are desperate. Kenny acts now and he gets better value and based on the quotes thats exactly what he plans to do. I expect the Sox to make a large move by the end of the Winter meetings.
  20. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) ? Nocioni is starting at small forward. I'm retarded. I thought I heard somewhere that Deng was gonna go in at SF and Noc was gonna start at PF.
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) It's not like the team was doing spectacularly with Tate though. Of course, the recievers were helping no one.... Iowa is still better than ISU.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) Why is Noch still starting? Cause he's a far superior PF than Songalia. I really like this Bulls lineup. Noc may not be really big, but he's strong enough and tough enough to guard most PF's and he'll have quickness on them on the offensive end.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 08:41 AM) Michigan is getting way too much respect in the predictions. Yes, they have a ton of talent, but Amaker has proven to be just like fellow former Dukie Quin Synder (although not nearly as dirty a recruiter or scumbag in general) in that he gets tons of good players, and does nothing with them. But hey, I hope Michigan is real good and makes the tourney, another good big 10 team is nice, and I think the Big 10 is going to be LOADED this year. Iowa will finish ahead of them in the Big 10. The Trib has Iowa way too low. I'm not saying Iowa will be great, but they have the ability to be a top 15 team and if they put it all together a top 10 team. Of course with Alford at the helm they will suck early in the big 10 season and rebound late in the year to once again save his job and make the tourney only to get knocked out in the 1st or 2nd round.
  24. Big game for the Bulls. I think this is the one where they get that West coast road win out of the way. Going to be seeing them on Sunday against the Lakers (another game they could win) but the Bulls never seem to do that well when I see them at Staples (of course this will be the 1st time I see them play the Lakers, usually I go to the Bulls/Clippers game).
  25. Ya, I was comparing to Florida. I know my way around those parts now (been coming out to AZ for the past 9 years and this will be my 10th year). Its been an annual father-son trip and now my dads moving out there part of the year for business (in the hill part of Mesa). Of all the stadiums, the only ones I absolutely can't stand are Hi-Corbett (its still the same as what it was when Major Leauge was made), and Oakland (they renovated it a year or two ago, but I'm still not much of a fan, its pretty plain). TEP is awesome, Tempe Diablo is pretty decent (good food), Maryvale and Surprise are really nice (in fact Surprise is probably my favorite), Peoria is really nice (awesome grub there), Ho Ho Kam (its a nice park, especially since they redid it a few years ago. It used to be absolutely terrible). Haven't been to Scottsdales in a while, but I remember when we first went out there it was one of our favorite parks. Had some great bbq chicken sandwiches way back when and the park has a real nice design (I think it was designed by the people who did Camden Yards). As long as your going to the parks for the day games I've never noticed a traffic problem (although some of the parks do have some traffic getting into if you wait till right around game time to show up...mainly the Cubs). But I'm the type of person that gets there 2 hr's before the game and watches BP. Its probably my favorite pre ball game thing, plus its fun seeing some of the minor leaguers do their bp (some stadiums have really fan friendly minor league areas where you can watch them do their drills). I totally love the whole atmosphere of Spring Training. Your always surrounded by other big time baseball fans and your so close to the action. Plus the weather is usually good (with a few nice thunder storms) and the whole Phoenix area is awesome (Like you I'm not much of a fan of Tuscon).
