  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 01:55 PM) IMO you can't change qb's in the middle of the season with a first place team but that's just me. I agree. Prior to this past game Orton had went a few games without a pick and had thrown a few td's. Hell, he helped beat a good Baltimore defense (albeit it a horrible team) and threw no picks (an impressive feat). Now if Orton was turning the ball over left and right each week (he does fumble it too much, but some of the times it has just been total fluke plays) than I'd be talking more about going to Grossman. I see the arm and the tools in Orton, just like I see them in Grossman (in fact as much as I love Orton's arm, I like Rex more and I like Rex footwork and mechanics better). That said Orton has taken the hits all season and has stayed healthy and some throws he makes are ones only very good QB's can do (because he has the arm strenght to make them). We got two potentially good to great QB's or will in a few more weeks. Obviously they aren't at that point yet, but both have all the tools necessary and are in an offensive system that protects the qb (cause they run the ball a lot) as well as helps the qb (Turner is able to use a lot of playaction and is willing to go down field). Really this is an offense that a year from now, may be one of the up and coming offenses in the league (it just needs a little more time for the qb's to develop as well as the time to get another WR in here to go with Mushin and Bradley next year). Plus Benson and TJones will be that much better of a duo. I really like what the Bears offense is going to look like a year or two from now and I feel the same way about the defense (this group is almost entirely locked up for the next few years, sans Zoom..plus I think Briggs is due to sign an extension and hopefully he will). Call me crazy, but within the next 3 years I see the Bears having a super bowl team. Next year may be a little early, but with the right moves I could see it happening as soon as next year.
  2. I apologize for thinking this was fake INEEDMONEY. Thanks for being the 1st to provide us with info
  3. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) Barring another leg injury, Grossman has better escapability than Orton, IMO. Grossman really had a knack for feeling the pressure and escaping. I have long been a Grossman fan. But right now I think all this is a moot point. 1st Grossman needs to get back on the field and begin practicing and showing us that his ankle is 100%. Once thats the case than we can talk more about this, imo. That said next years training camp battle is going to be awesome and for once I will be able to say that I'm happy with the depth the Bears have at the QB position (in fact I think we'll be drafting one again next year to take over as a 3rd stringer).
  4. QUOTE(AirScott @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) he hasn't brought anything to the table. he isn't asked to anything, and when he is, it usually ends up with him overthrowing his receiver. if Grossman's healthy, put him in. He was asked to win the game this past Sunday and made a tremendous pass to Mushin to set up the game winning score. The Bears obviously can't ask for him to do too much, but thus far he's done whats been asked of him. Its not like they have called a ton of plays down field for him. They got a little more agressive against the Saints and to be honest he didn't play that well, but he was able to overcome all his bad throws to make some really good ones when necessary.
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 05:13 AM) Soxtalk needs a drooling smiley. This game is going to take over my life im sure. Ya, I can't wait. Its going to come in really handy with my last semester (and what should be my easiest one). I probably will not buy any pro sports games this year (which would be a 1st). I bought no NFL games and so far no NBA games. I take that back, I do have an NHL game. But right now its all about the NCAA games for me. They are so way fun. Plus I think with college baseball and the shorter seasons it will be easier to get farther into the dynasty mode.
  6. Francouer will in the long run be a better all around player, imo. That said, he's going to have some growing pains next year. He's still too raw at the plate and will have to improve his strike zone judgement and his approach at the plate. That said, he'll still end up having solid numbers, just nowhere like he had this past year (when you project them over a full season). In a few years, I suspect he'll be an all star. Great arm, fluid body, very live bat.
  7. Were you all unable to get a room this year?

    Pay those taxes..

Well I'm not saying anything about criminals here. I'm all about locking people up and I'm a very unforgiving person when it comes to thiefs, but especially when it comes to murders and child abusers, wife abusers, and worse of all child molesters. I do see your point, but at the same time I think we need to look long and hard at some of the things the government spends its money on and the ways they go about certain things. I hate how jurisdictions are handed money based on what they spent in previous years. All they ever want is increased money for their budget and the only way to go about that is to blow through there budget and demand more the next year. How about instead you maybe set up some sort of incentive system to make people want to be as thrifty as possible (without hurting the end result). Obviously you'd have to come up with a good system, because the last thing you'd want to see is different sections not spending the money and areas that need to be taken care of not taken care of because they are so cheap (but a good middle ground would be nice). But chalk that up as something else that will never happen (just like a real tort reform policy).
  9. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) well you can check november off as another month gone by that it's come up Maybe something even funnier will happen at Soxfest this time around and than the story can die by the way side, only to be brought up at every Soxfest from here on out. And don't feel bad, we have other material, but if I mentioned the other material I don't think I'd live to tell about it.
  10. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) Don't lie, you never really liked Honel as a prospect. BTW, I'm still taking Gio over Haigwood. Your right on that. That said, I never ever ever root against anyone in the system (But you know that). I just always thought he was over-rated. We'll see on Gio and Haigwood. I really like Haig though. He just knows how to pitch and I love his off-speed stuff. I think both are really good, my only question about Gio is his durability. If he's healthy I think he has a shot to be a #2 pitcher (at best). I think Haigwood probably has a little less upside (but for some reason I really like him turning into a really good pitcher).
  11. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Jas, I have been to a few Sox games with him, and he never stops IMing me, I knew YEARS AGO. Run AWAY as fast as you can...he's trying to bring you in the love triangle...he tried the same at Soxfest, but we had to bring Steff in for security
  12. I hope he stays in the organization this year. He made some really positive strides at the end of last season and really seemed to be getting his stuff and more importantly his confidence back. This will be THE key year in his development. He pitches like he did a few years back and he's back on the map, if he doesn't, he'll probably be in another organization by years end (if not sooner).
  13. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) If Soxtalk had a gay horn(Silvy and Carmen), we should sound it. If this was the 1st sign you saw Tony...boy are you slow. All you have to do is listen to his posts talking about him and Brian's shirades
  14. Good to hear from ya Bull Hows the rehab on the arm going? From what Heads mentioned it sounds like your gonna be ready to roll by spring training? Best of luck

    Pay those taxes..

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) Let's write a new law. How small of a bill should they prosecute? $20, $50, $100? Basically, as soon as you come up with a number, in theory, every tax payer could short their bill that amount. Multiply that by millions of tax payers, and you will have a better understanding why there isn't a minimum before prosecuting. That doesn't have anything to do with the fact that its a waste of money to prosecute this case. They are going to spend 1000 times the resources on this case than they will ever get out of it. That makes zero sense to do. Thats the problem, they (the government) need to have some rule (on how much to prosecute a person for) instead of using common sense. A business would use common sense, but the government, it needs rules for every damn thing out there and because of that they are ran so god damn inneficient. I'm not saying some rules aren't necessary, but geeze, sometimes all you have to do is look in a mirror and go is this worth it (but they don't think that way because they essentially get an unlimited budget and are always spending there budget, if they don't, then they wouldn't get more money the next year). Its why I stick to my theory that government needs to stay out of pretty much everything (aside from defense, and taking care of the interest rate, as well as schools, roads and that sort of stuff. Basically the essential infastructure).
  16. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) Good ol' Cooter Gage? I'm just a little slow...how was I supposed to know Tex made the same line.
  17. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) the phrases "first date" and "nipple" in the same sentence? way to go jason LOL, who would of thought Alex would have been complimenting me. Afterall...all I have to tell a lady is that I own Soxtalk. If I say those magic words to a girl, its guaranteed play
  18. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) yay Mothers don't count Alex
  19. QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 08:00 PM) Christmas music My Name is Earl dry cheerios tea (I would say, conservatively, that I drink 5-6 cups a day) TV Shows My Name is Earl Prison Break Lost Food Ice Cream (moose tracks to be specific) and Caesar Salad Good looking girls (my current and past addiction rolled into one...and the cause and creation to most of the dumbass things I've said, lol).
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 06:30 PM) Heh....nipple confusion...otherwise known as "Gage's First Date" One day Alex, one day there will be a movie made about your 1st date...we just need a time machine to see it
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) He's obviously familiar with my work. Heads is barely better than me and thats saying something
  22. I don't want TO around our rookie QB. He'd murder him when Orton missed him on a couple passes. That said him and Mushin would make it a lot easier on TO. Some team may get really lucky on TO this offseason (he may have finally realized he needs to just shut up and play).
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) Yes but if you watched the Saints game, you would have seen Orton overthrowing a lot of balls. The Bears were just lucky they were playing the Saints. If the Bears want to go far in the playoffs, they'll need to make a change. Otherwise, it shows that they're building for the long - term (which in itself isn't a bad thing). He also made some really nice throws. He's a rookie, he's not Brett Favre. People expect guys to come into this league and immediately be Brett Favre and Peyton Manning. I got news for you, thats not going to happen. You have to be developed, especially a 4th round pick. Watch almost any game and you'll see QB's miss there WR's. In the 2nd quarter of the Lions game (two weeks ago) Orton was perfect, making all the throws and leading the Bears offense up and down the field. He also made a perfect pass to Mushin for a touchdown. He's shown this type of flashes at time. The consistency will come with experience and improved footwork. The problem is there is only so much you can do in the regular season. With more experience he'll better read defenses and he'll also have a better idea of what his Wr's will do and what NFL db's and linebackers are capable of doing. And I got news for everyone, if the Bears had a better qb out there they'd have grabbed him. Rex Grossman is no more seasoned (in fact he's less seasoned than Orton) and therefore the Bears are going to have to develop and try to win at the same time. This is going to pay off very well next year when they are coming off a playoff loss (If Orton can improve enough, they could win 1 game in the playoffs, but they won't win more than that) with two viable qb options (giving the Bears some depth) and 3 capable RB's (two of which are above average backs in my mind...TJ and Ced).
  24. Cano is the guy on that list that I think has the most upside. Well him and Houston Street (he's gonna be a quality closer for a long time). Cano is a pretty good player, just look at his stats.
