  1. We got a letter for this and it sounds like season tix holders are gonna get hooked up. This is going to be a really cool event. Its actually kind of funny, baseball was slower than the Angels to announce this, LOL.

    VOTE!!!

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 09:13 AM) I know this doesn't apply to everyone at this site, but for those of you in states like California, Virginia, Maine, Texas, New Jersey, and probably a few other places...it's election day. GET YOUR ASSES OUT THERE AND VOTE. (This has been a rude public service announcement sponsored by Balta enterprises). I got off my rocker and voted. I hope like hell Arnold's props pass, but I know they won't. I just hope that people are smart enough to change the probationary period for teachers. Its freaking ridiculous that essentially after 2 years they can never be fired (unless they touch there students). That and I feel it is entirely fair to make sure that union's don't just donate all your money to a cause you have no support for. Technically they don't need a bill for this, because most times your in a union you have a spot to say I don't want to support this (or at least I read that in an article, but like all things political, who knows if its true) but I know most people are too lazy to do that and this makes it easier. The last thing I want to see is 90% of the unions funding going to the democratic party when not 90% of the the union is comprised of democrats (I find that ridiculously unfair and if its a republican party that gets all the support from some specific union I would feel the same way). Just because: 73: Yes 74: HELL YES 75: Yes 76: Yes (because I'd rather give a republican governor some of this control, but I will probably end up eating my hat for voting yes on this one). I'm not necessarily a huge proponent of the idea, but I'd rather give some power to the governator as opposed to the highly left state legislators. Plus I think in the long run it will curb spending and I'm always a fan of that. 77: Yes (really could care less about this initiative, to be honest, this was just me voting the party line) 78: No 79: No - Didn't really like either heath care reform bills . They were both trying like hell to smear the others and that type of stuff pisses me off. Plus I don't think either bill was really that good and they need to find a compromise between the two bills. 80: GOD NO (not again, lol). Not a good idea, imo. Than there were quite a few measures, most of which were a bunch of BS trying to trick people into splitting up money from a certain issue that had been voted for a while back. This was an Orange County thing, but I'm guessing LA county had some measures up as well. I did end up supporting a measure that would put a little more money into rehabilitating minors who commit crimes simply because I think thats a good place to put some money (as opposed to giving it all to the prison system) cause a minor is going to be in society for a while and if you can by chance clean them up and get there head on straight it will pay off big time.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 10:03 AM) At first I was all gung ho to buy a Sirus radio for Stern, but now with Brandmeir back and Mike and Mike in the morning i'm not sure I want to spend money for radio. If Adam Carolla's morning show was going to be in Chicago there is no way I would buy Sirus just for Stern... but we get Rover, not Carolla Suckers...we pick up Carolla and he's one of those people that can entertain the hell out of me. I'm looking forward to maybe turning the dial that way to check it out (maybe Ill listen to that half the time and Kevin and Bean half the time).
  4. One thing that Owens could have going for him is Chris Young. A CFer (very good defensive one) with legitimate 40 HR power potential would mean you could take less power from a typical position of power (ie, LF). This would especially be the case if you have Crede developing and playing more like the Crede down the stretch as well as if you have Anderson turn into a 30 HR guy (which I don't think will ever happen).
  5. Not even close. Rosenhaus is a lying prick. Boras may be a hard-line agent, but he's fairly honest with teams and really does work out the best deals for his clients.
  6. QUOTE(BMac41 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 08:15 AM) Um actually i do. :rolly They were just one of the 3 best defensive teams in the league last year. They will be quite similar again this year. I hate blaming officiating, but the Bulls got totally jobbed in this game. They weren't letting the Bulls play D (always calling tick fouls) but Manu was hacking and slapping the hell out of people and getting no calls (as was Bowen).
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) In 8 games this season Orton has a QB rating of 62.9. In the 3 games that Krenzel won, he had a QB rating of 62.4. We all know where that went. Wait until Orton faces the defenses of Carolina and Tampa. Orton has tools...Krenzel didn't. They aren't at all similar qb's. Orton has made some very impressive throws and has flashed whats necessary of a good to above average NFL qb. Give this kid some time and he's going to be a pretty good one. Krenzel never was.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) I dont know how much of these people are die-hard Bears fans and the NFL in general.... but I do know that people I talk to.... the more casual fan usually likes Orton while the diehard one and the one who likes all football in general rather have Grossman in there. Not me. And I'm as diehard as it gets. I've missed one half of a Bears game in the past 4 years. You guys are ridiculously hating on Orton. This guy has came in and done decent as a 4th round pick right out of the gate. Look at what most highly drafted 1st round picks have done when they are thrown right into the fire. Orton is doing that and than some. No, he isn't great, but he's been solid and is growing. He has an NFL arm and NFL size. He also seems to shy away from big hits (a big plus) and has the mind-set of a good qb (the type of qb who is able to put aside his bad throws and go out and make a good throw on the next play). He's got a ton of work left, but this guy is light-years better than I expected him to be when he started the season. He also has more starts than Grossman and at this point I'm not messing with anything. If Orton all of a sudden starts to stink, thats another story, but I ain't messing with him.
  9. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) The only person from SD I would want that we have a shot at is Josh Barfield there 2b prosept. He is about a year away from being in the MLB..would be a nice replacement for Iguchi Barfield is solid but I'm not trading Arow for him. Nor would I trade Arow for Linebrink straight up. Now if the Sox could put together a deal for Jake Peavy, than I'd be listening (lol). However if the Angels go through with a Steve Finley for Ryan Klesko swap (its a rumor thats gaining steam out here) than maybe that opens up some options.
  10. I understand Coors field and all, but why in the hell is Todd Helton not winning (assuming were looking at this from the perspective that money is no object). 5 of the past 6 years this guy has posted a 1.000 + OPS. He's a ridiculous hitter who has hit well both in Coors and away from Coors. He would hit .320-.330 with 25-30 HR, and a .450 OBP (and I think this is minimum). I don't think he'd suffer like some of the other guys that have left Coors simply because he is such a damn good pure hitter.
  11. If money and everything is no object, I'm taking Todd Helton. The guy is the best pure hitter on that board and can hit for power as well. I'm not going to get into the whole coors field inflation, but put him on a good team and I think he'd put up ridiculous numbers once again.

    Pay those taxes..

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 08:10 AM) This typlifies government abuse to a "T". Talk about a serious waste of allocating our money. Why in the hell should we have prosectuors and the government wasting there time on a little over a buck in back taxes. Of course the fees add up, but considering she's unemployed and probably doesn't have the money they are going to waste tons of resources to get very little money back. Freaking stupid and its just a microcosm of the crap that goes on in the government. Non government related, but this also stems for my hatred of 99% of all attorneys and all the billions that people spend on frivolous lawsuits that they have to defend just because some stupid idiot thinks they have the right to sue when they don't. TORT REFORM....TORT REFORM. How I went from a government rant to tort reform, I'll never know, but it needs to be done. If you had a really good tort reform policy (one that will never get passed) you'd see the economy skyrocket and businesses do so much better. I don't even think I want to know how much money is spent on lawsuits that should never get started and how much business have to pay to defend this phony lawsuits and the problem is the people suing are the types of people you'll never be able to collect your own attorney fees from (in the case you win). Its a total joke that your better off to settle most of the time (when your the right party) as opposed to putting it in the jury's hands and going through all the legal feels. Find a politician that can get this passed, and wow would you see business revenues skyrocket.
  13. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) They already lost a game. I highly doubt it. This board seems to overate the spurs to no end and think this is the greatest team in the history of the nba. I still think three teams from the east can beat them in the finals. Pacers, pistons, and heat... in that order. I put them in that order because you need to beat the spurs at their own game. I view think the pacers and pistons defense will be very similar except i give the nod to the pacers on defense. I still don't know what to think about the heat, it is far too early to tell for me. After the spurs bounce back loss they might beat the s*** out of us. On the other hand we play up to our opponents pretty well... as well as playing down to an opponents level. I agree with your assesment qwerty. That said, the Spurs will run away with the West and I'll be shocked if they aren't in the NBA finals. The east is much more of a battle and with that my favorite team in the east is the Pacers. That said Detroit and Miami both have the weapons and skills to win the championship as well. Still its too early to see how teams will do. How will Detroit play defensively (will they be as good as in years past) and how much better will they be offensively (Flip Saunders is a very very good offensive coach and the question is if he can keep that defense in sink, if he can, the Pistons may end up being better this year than they were last year). And Miami, its gonna be a while till we know how good they are. They had so many pieces change that its going to take some time for Van Gundy to realize the players he has and the rotations to use and its going to take the players a long time to get comfortable with each other.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) Westbrook signed a 5 year extension yesterday, btw. Is it me or did they drastically overpay and overrate Westbrook. Westbrook is a solid all around back, but he's slated to make quite a bit of money now (i'm assuming the deal is backloaded and that he'll make somewhere around 3-4 million the first few years and will never reach the latter part of the deal).
  15. I could probably pitch in some stuff. I've helped out on a pretty large draft site before.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) Boers and Bernstein talked about this subject for a little today, and they made some points I agree with. Basically they said that teams that have won for awhile have been fluid. It would suck to see PK go, he has been great for this team, but I will trust KW, I think he's earned that from me. If they lose PK and he can bring in an Overbay and Matsui, I think that goes aways to make up for the loss. Also, over the past few days Boers has been saying if the Sox trade someone from their staff it would be Garcia. Haven't heard this elsewhere, but I imagine he would be worth something pretty good. They mentioned Blaylock from Texas To be honest, out of all of our starters not named Duque if I were to trade from the big 4, Garcia would be the guy as well. I'd do a Tex for Garcia trade, assuming the Sox would go out and sign themselves another starter to replace him.
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) It is starting to sound a little more like Hideki isn't a lock to stay in NY..... If Hideki becomes a FA, I'd give him a really nice 3 year deal to come join Iguchi on the southside of Chicago. Resign Paulie and move El Duque (heck maybe just trade Duque for Matsui and than work out a 3 year deal with him). That would give the sox just enough flexibility to bring back Paulie and give Matsui a few year deal.
  18. Pretty good. Friday night was awesome, tons of fun. Finished 3rd in a pool tourney and than went out. Got home at 5:30 and had to get to a place at 8 AM to do some community service (for my frat we have to do a certain amt of hours of community service and its an honors accounting frat, so its not that kind of frat). I ended up sawing down a couple trees during community service (1st time I can say that happened). Saturday night played some cards and won some cash (paying for my Friday night and Sunday night costs). Got tons of sleep Saturday and than watched the Bears game on Sunday. Started off with a bang and ended with lots of sleep, which is something I love.
  19. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 07:13 PM) Overheard in a bar in Minneapolis: "So, who do you think our MVP is this year? Pat Williams or Chris Kluwe?" That's right, folks. Vikes fans think their punter is the MVP. Well, Maynard has long been one of the Bears MVP's.
  20. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) I'll give you Penn State and Miami as teams that might be better than Notre Dame, but Alabama and Virginia Tech have shown me nothing to think they would. Sure they COULD beat them, but to act as if they are that much better is a bit much. And UCLA? Yeah right! Lol, I didn't catch UCLA, but they aren't even a top 20 team in my book and I don't think they'll finish the season in the Top 25 (although that may be a little harsh). They are garbage. They haven't played anyone thats that good (I think Cal and Oregon are both over-rated).
  21. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 05:49 PM) As much as I hate Tennessee, I'll give their defense some credit. Notre Dame had a great first drive, but then Tennesse basically shut them down until the 4th quarter. ND's second TD came on a short drive after a Tenn. turnover. ND's third score was on the punt return. Tennessee's defense did their job, but their offense and special teams made it next to impossible for them to survive. Any defense will wear down if they are constantly fighting turnovers and bad field position. Personally I think Fullmer and there assinine two QB idea is what put this team in such a bad position. This is the most talented squad he's had in a while and I agree, Tenn's defense played well and ND did get quite a few points on non-offensive posessions. I really haven't seen enough Alabama games to comment too much on them. From what I have seen they do have a good defense and a solid enough offense (nothing potent though).
  22. QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) Isn't it amazing what a good backup QB can do when needed? Brad Johnson can easily lead that team on a big winning streak. Right now, Minny is the team I fear most in the division. They got more talent than any of the other teams in our division (aside from the Bears) and have a veteran QB at the helm. Plus Michael Bennet looked pretty good. As long as the Bears take care of their own business, I think they will be alright. Especially if they can take down Minny when they meet next in 2 weeks (I think thats who the Bears play after San Fran).
  23. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 05:42 PM) OSU is a much better team. All this talk about how ND only has two losses, what about Ohio State? They lost by 4 to Texas and played like s*** against PSU in Happy Valley, and PSU still squeaked bye. I think that UT is a BETTER team than USC. Texas is much more complete. USC is much like ND in the sense that they too can be taken advantage by a good passing team. That said, USC will always be in the game because they have one of the most talented and balanced offenses in NCAA history. They have two great RB's, a really good WR, and a hell of a QB. I so hope both teams stay undefeated because I think its going to be the best two teams meeting each other in a national champsionship game in some time. These two squads are both incredibly talented. Texas has a better defense and a great offense, but USC has a solid defense (good at stopping the run, not very good at stopping an above average passing team, but they do have some athletes on the defensive side) and an amazing offense. I agree OSU is a similar team to ND. ND with the better offense, OSU with the better defense. If Troy Smith is at his finest I think I'd probably give OSU the nod because I think they are a pretty good team. That said I think that game comes down to where they play, the weather, all that good stuff. Both are borderline top 5 teams, imo. They rank ahead of Miami, Alabama and some of the other teams in my book.
  24. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 05:33 PM) Which is why I honestly would hesitate to put Alabama ahead of them. I think the next two weeks will expose Alabama and being a very good team, but not an elite team. As good as Bama's defense is, and it is VERY good, I don't think they could score with ND. I hate to compare scores, but I think they type of game each played against Tennessee tells a lot. The way I see it, a team that can pass the ball can give ND fits, but most of the teams that are leading the way right now are teams that rely on rushing and good defense. Thats great and its working for them, but at the same time Notre Dame plays the run well and there offense is very well balanced and Quinn is playing near flawless football. Plus Weis flat out prepares this team week in and week out and calls outstanding offensive games. Hell, Tenn is supposed to have this great defense (and while there record is very poor) they still have a talented defensive unit and they got pretty rocked by the Irish (especially early in the game).
