QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) Can you speak to his "stuff?" That's pretty encouraging seeing the minds of Baseball America think the kid doesn't know how to pitch. His stuff good enough to make that jump? In my opinion no. I don't think he has great stuff, although he has the ability to throw 5 pitches, none of them well. Good arm, but the guy wasn't a pitcher when they drafted him (I realize he was a starter at UCLA) but he's no pitcher. It was a bad pick and I've said it since day one. I hope he proves me wrong cause he's supposed to have pretty good work ethic.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) 1)He's overpaid. 2)Up until last year, he was a mediocre reliever at best. 3)He's not a young prospect who finally got it. He's an older guy who had a lucky year. I say he has more of a year like Esteban Loaiza had his 2nd year here rather than a year like last year. I wouldn't knock the move if they didn't overpay so much. For that money, I would've just upped it a bit more to go after Ryan. Did you see what Loiaza did with Washington this year? He pitched pretty darn well. That said I agree he's overpaid (Eyre).

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) I'm not so sure now. This is straight from Cubs.com: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/new...t=.jsp&c_id=chc This could be the worst reliever contract in the history of the MLB. Then my guess is it turns into the 3rd year option has a pretty big buyout. It would be assinine for them to give Eyre 5.5 million a year for 2 years. Really assinine.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 06:21 PM) Perez played pretty solid last year. But I do agree the Sox have overpaid for some guys and they are definately putting a lot of faith in Eyre continuing to improve. Eyre has a pretty good arm for a lefty (good pop on the FB) but aside from that he's not worth what they gave him. I don't know what the guaranteed figure is (I know its a 2 year deal w/3rd year option) but regardless it looks like the Cubs overpaid a bit, but thats to be expected with a lefty reliever, especially in a thin FA market.

QUOTE(timotime @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) agreed. when you are talking about bang for buck, eyre is not where it's at. i would honestly stick with marte rather than throw big money that could contribute to getting us a heavy bat. Thats why Marte is a guy you don't trade unless you get some good major league pieces for him. Holy crap, as I type this I hear Don't Stop Believing on King of the Hill. This song will always have a special memory to me.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) Heres the best part: Not only are the cubs fans loving this move, they are begging for AJ Burnett as well. Wow, they could easily take the all time MRI record with that rotation. I don't get why everyone's knocking the Eyre move. Just becuase the Cubs made a move, doesn't mean its a bad one. Scott Eyre was really good last year and if he pitches like he did this past season, he's definately a great pickup, even if they did pay a mill or year too much (and if he pitches like he did last year, 3 million a year is more than fair).

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) Are you Bruce Levine? No, JD actually knows what he's talking about

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) So you could show me a source that says Larry Beinfest or anyone with the Marlins for that matter have mentioned Rowand, Contreras and Marte by name? Kalapse, I'd take JD's words pretty strongly. Not saying its 100%, but if he heard it, it is its from someone he knows pretty well whose tied into baseball. He's definately one of the people I'd consider a Soxtalk source.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 07:04 PM) Hard to do that without tampering. They probably came to them in trade talks for Burnett and proclaimed those 3 guys as players they would be interested in.

QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) do all sox fans really attack umpires? Of course...do we do thinks any less. Soxtalk.com, 1st attack an ump..than post.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) I thought it was a 'butherface'. I can't keep up with the hip slang. Kip that is what it is. But her face, ie good body, bad face. OF course butter face could also refer to a plump gal.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) Do Dodger fans really all leave in the 7th inning. If thats true they have to be one of the worse fanbases in all of baseball no matter how many show up at the begining. If they are losing yes, if they are winning no. They still draw 3.6 million fans so the fan base is strong. They usually arrive a little late and West Coast fans tend to leave the game when their team is trailing.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) As a side note, my father, who is way more knowledgable about stadiums than I am, has said that his trip to Pacbell was the best stadium he's every experienced. I'm curious to here if anyone else has been there, and what they have to say about it. AMAZING. Definately ranks tops on my list. Petco, Camden and the Jake are next on my list.

Fenway Park is #1 on the dump list. Never been to Tropicana but I'm sure thats pretty crappy too. Dodger stadium and the Twinkie dome would be the next on the list of stadiums I've attended that stink.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 10:07 PM) Shouldn't you be tracking down those kids and turning them into White Sox fans? What's wrong with you? Do you job!

QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) Well if you could find a quote it would be appreciated. I just know on real gm, bbb, etc... when skiles says anything it is talked about, and alot. Personally I think it should be different...when qwerty says something, it should be talked about. Qwerty...NBA insider and Bulls enthusiast. I like the sound of it. The man knows his basketball.

Some points of interest for me: 1) The Surf Shop 2) LC's preschool 3) The field where jason played little league I'm sure to think of some others lol. Its because I own this website. Come out here and I can introduce you to some. I'm not quite the loser Heads makes me out to be

Plus, Gordon was turning it over (don't know the stats) but I'm guessing that may have been part of the reason he was out. Neither him nor Deng protected the ball well tonight. Deng took a lot of awful shots too.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) It's exactly what he said. They asked him what Gordon has to do to become a starter, and Skiles said he doesn't think he'll ever be good enough to start for the Bulls. I got no problem with it, I still think it was Skiles trying to motivate, but either way, I don't see that as a flaw for Scott Skiles. I'm not trying to doubt the validity, but I swear this would have been mentioned in the trib or somewhere. From what I remember, Skiles loves pushing Gordon, but I've never seen him really say he couldn't be a starter. He keeps trying and I'm guessing it was more at this point he's not a starter for the Bulls but I think Skiles has pretty high expectations for the kid and I'm sure he was proving some sort of point but at the same time, I'm confident with Hinrich taking the shots.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) Gordon is what he is.....an offensive machine off the bench who's not tall or strong enough to play defense. If you're not going to put him on the court when you're down 1 with the ball at the end of the game, you're not putting your team in the best possible position to succeed. Skiles has done nothing over his two plus seasons with the Bulls that make me want to 2nd guess him. When I don't see someone out there I assume that player is in the doghouse and that over the long run its for the benefit of the team (as well as proving a point and teaching a lesson) that that player isn't in there. Skiles is one of the better coaches in this league and I'm glad he's on our side.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) When I heard Skiles on the radio state that Gordon will never be good enough to start in the NBA (last week he said this), I just had to shake my head. I don't think thats exactly what he said, but I don't think Skiles expects him to be a starter, but he does think he'll be a good player. Skiles is doing everything he can to push Gordon and quite frankly if thats exactly what he said, I wouldn't disagree. He's a good player, but wouldn't make a good starter. Starting would take away from what makes him best and I don't think he's the type of guy that could play extensive minutes and continue to be the great scorer he is (plus he's horrific at everything else not named scoring).
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) Gordon had 15 pts, as well as being 3-3 for 3 pt range. The Great Chris Duhon was 1-10 from the field tonight. Since Duhon was likely to not be able to drive and dish in that possession, you need to have Gordon on the court. Skiles was proving a point about something. He was frustrated with Gordon for most of the 2nd half (hence you saw Pargo getting a lot of minutes). Don't ask me why, I'm not the coach, but I had no problem with it. The play was drawed up for Hinrich and he missed and the Bulls had a couple 2nd chance opportunities but didn't succeed. Although I'd agree he probably should have been in for Duhon (who isn't a good shooter).
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) The Blazers knocked it out on that out of bounds with 1 second on the clock, pretty obvious. There is no saying the bulls would have scored. THey shouldn't have been in that position to begin with. They are the better team and need to take care of business. Its there own damn fault as far as I'm concerned.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) Half the players in the league don't play a lick of defense. I think Skiles is just a stubborn mofo. All the great coaches are. If you don't want to play defense get the hell out of here. Skiles and Paxson agree on this approach and they aren't going to tolerate players not willing to put in effort. I really respect that and its why, even if the team does regress a bit this year, I have no doubt it will be a very good and winning franchise in the future because of Skiles/Paxson and them not tolerating non team players and guys that aren't willing to hustle (thats almost all defense is, you don't have to be physically gifted to be a good defensive player). I still think this team will gel, but its not going to be with this starting unit. Noc will replace Songalia with Deng coming in, but eventually you'll probably see Sweetney starting. Problem is Sweetney isn't there physically yet, but the Bulls are working his ass back into shape.
