  1. The greatest part of all of it was, that Phil was waiting for a sign to see whether he should take the job or not Freaking nutjob
  2. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 07:06 AM) I wish it never happened. My parents bring it up allll the time. "Steff... remember when you rode Dumbo with MJ.. ? Go get the pics..!!". :headshake ROFL ,this is gonna be great
  3. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 06:49 AM) I'd never do that, Hell I think he is a sick f***er myself (maybe not to the extremes as others see him) I am just one of the biggest fans of his music from my early childhood so I am blinded by that... And to think Steff, I'm gonna have to sit next to him in a few days
  4. ROLF @ The Lakers I wonder how much he got, my guess is 10-11 mill a year.
  5. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) How ridiculous is the top 30 going to look after this year if we don't have a rash of trades? With prospects being given time due to no immediate MLB need, and the drafts and return from injury of the likes of Honel and Malone and to a lesser extent Lumsden, it's going to be a top-5 or 10 organization type of top-30... Ya, I'm loving what the Sox have been doing. There is so much pitching depth and they have tons of OF depth and a few toolsy middle infielders and Josh Fields. But I can't believe just how much pitching depth they have, its just awesome.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 07:22 AM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2084012 OMG, are they freaking nuts. He's a solid player, but he's now one of the most overrated players in baseball. He's a real poor mans version of Rafael Furcal and he's really nowhere near the offensive or defensive player Furcal is (one of my personal fav shortstops). What a joke the Phils are. I'd just as well pay Polanco 4 mill less than Rollins whose never lived up to his hype after winning ROY, imo. He's a solid shortstop, nothing more, and nothing less. Makes the contract the Sox gave Uribe that much better
  7. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 05:32 PM) Jeff Clement is a stud. Jason, you are nuts to think he is overrated. I'd take a bat like his at 1B if his defense at catcher isn't good enough. Despite 2 HRs in 2 games, Clement's USC team fell to Oregon St. That was an awesome series. And I've long said Clement is a legit hitter, I just think teams are nuts to think he'll make it as a catcher. Too bad for my Titans, but ASU was the better team that series. Fullerton's staff was too banged up and realistically the Sun Devils dominated them in all 3 games. Still, it makes me sick to think Fullerton blew a 7-2 lead. Gonna be a fun series though because I really don't think there is any runaway favorite this year.
  8. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:27 AM) I hadn't heard anything in a while, how old is that info? It's consistent with what we heard a month or 2 ago... Ya, he mentioned it about a week ago that he's still on pace for the ASB. In fact I can't remember for sure but I think he said he was gonna be leaving Arizona pretty quick and heading up to join the team in the next week or so, but I could be wrong.
  9. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) Yeah, draft-eligible sophomore that apparently wasn't rated as highly due to signability doubts and exposure... Appears to be a better pick than originally thought. Without a second rounder, and having drafted him before and obviously having had discussions with him 2 years ago, they must feel they can sign him or they wouldn't have taken him, IMO... If they can sign those first 10-14 picks this year, I'll be thrilled no matter what happens with Danks... Agreed and who knows. Danks could get a fluke injury or something could happen with Texas' coaching staff that makes him change his mind. It was a real good risk the Sox took when they drafted him. However, if most of the early picks sign I don't think the Sox will do much with Danks, but you never know what can happen. Until he attends classes there is always a chance.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 04:23 AM) I have commented a few times that during the season, I think AJ Pierzynski is the BIG difference in the way that Jose Contreras has been pitching this year. Now after watching that disaster last night, it inspired me to do some research. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues this year but here are the starts were AJ has caught Contreras, in order. 6 IP 1 ER 6.2 IP 4 ER 4.2 IP 4 ER 3.1 IP 1 ER 6 IP 1 ER 8 IP 1 ER 7 IP 1 ER 7 IP 3 ER 6 IP 2 ER 6 IP 2 ER Now Widger's three starts with Contreras 5 IP 4 ER 6.1 IP 4 ER 6 IP 8 ER For totals of... AJ 60.2 IP 16 ER 2.52 ERA Widger 17.1 IP 16 ER 8.30 ERA Its not even close right now. Now it will be interesting to see if this is an aberration, or if AJ literally makes Contreras a better pitcher. I wholeheartedly agree. I was expecting Widge to get the start on Sunday with AJ getting the day off (especially since it was a day game following a start). I think AJ should always catch Contreras, they seem to have a good feel for each other.
  11. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 08:33 AM) So, Gage is off the hook?
  12. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 04:48 AM) I heard an interview last night on the Score. Mike Brown is a huge Sox fan. He grew up in Arizona, a couple of years younger than Konerko. He said Paulie was a stone cold killer in high school baseball. He said he likes the Sox because they are a blue collar group of hustlers, who don't get the props the way our north side assclowns do. He really went on and on, loves baseball, calls it the sport of failure, cause if you go 3 for 10, etc. So Brooks - Mike Brown for first ball duty!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tillman is another Bear thats supposed to be a pretty big Sox fan.
  13. QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 08:56 AM) Will he ever start in the major leagues? He has the ability to, but right now I think he's found his role with the White Sox in the bullpen. Ozzie is gaining confidence in him with every outing and with Marte out he seems to be joining Politte as the set up guy in the 8th inning. As a big Cotts backer I'm glad to see him coming through now and just want to see him continually improve his control as well as his offspeed pitches. He's made great stride in both areas as of late and its a big reason why he's starting to take off. Once Marte is back and if Cotts continues doing what he's doing, the Sox pen looks a whole lot better.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) Well I consider Aaron a .300 hitter, anyways I agree though if Borch could hit .280 in the majors with his power he's without a doubt a starter, however even though I wish Borch the best I just don't think he's going to be able to, I definitely hope I'm wrong though. Don't worry, Borch is never going to hit .280 in the major leagues, imo.
  15. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) He was in the 88 Range yesterday all 5 innings yesterday and after the first couple innings got the Knuckle Curve working and it had some serious bite. Thats awesome. I hope the Sox don't mess with him. I'd just let him ease into things down in Bham and hopefully his confidence continues to grow with each and every start. I know I had written him off, but it really sounds like he's turned the corner and is back on his way to establishing himself as a prospect.
  16. QUOTE(sayitanitso @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 07:36 AM) Don't forget about Gio! Plus Liotta. The Sox are also gonna be piggybacking Broadway so I'd say there is a decent shot they'll do something early on where Broadway starts and Lumsden comes in and finishes stuff out in relief. They'll have to ease Tyler back from his injury, but he'll be back around the ASB.
  17. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) Both Short-season teams open play on June 21st. I expect mass-signing-announcements in the next 48 hours. Was good to see Cortes may be close to terms. He's one of about 4 or 5 signability picks that could turn an average draft into a real good one... The funny thing is I saw where Brooks is supposed to be a real tough sign, which is interesting since a lot of us thought he was a bit of a reach. I know a couple years back a lot of scouts felt he projected more as a reliever as opposed to a starter.
  18. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:29 PM) WE need a PHT mod to fix the thread title. This June, not July. All Fixed
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 01:38 PM) Mer, never. And I never could because of what happened to my girlfriend. I don't think any lawyer would ever want me on his jury in that case because I'd go with the approach of guilty unless he proved himself innocent. I just think those type of people are utterly sick f***s and I'd have it in against him before enough evidence was there. I'm sure its real hard too because often times its tough evidence, but I don't think as a juror I'd be able to look at it in that situation totally independently and unbiased.
  20. What f***ing horses***. f***er should not only rot in prison but in hell as well.
  21. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) has their been any rumors in chicago about the Sox making a trade since Marte is injured. Marte is day to day and there haven't been many rumors at all concerning a White SOx trade. I know Ozzie has been quoted in the past as saying he wasn't necessarily for a trade because he doesn't want to mess with the team chemistry. Personally I think they will make a trade, but Ozzie's quote leads me to believe if, and when, they make a deal its going to be an impact trade. Ozzie isn't going to want to bring in a mediocre guy that will not make a marked difference to the club. He's not going to want to take the shot that it messes with the chemistry. However, an impact guy, your willing to take that shot cause it makes the team a lot better for both the stretch run and hopefully the playoff run. Eric Chavez fits that bill, a real good reliever fits that bill. However a mediocre or average reliever probably wouldn't, considering the Sox have some other in house options when it comes to that. Eddie Guardado is a guy that would be the type of guy the Sox could take a shot at acquiring because he would be a big time addition to the pen. Anyway just my 2 cents.
  22. QUOTE(whitesoxmurph @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) My son (Cooper 7 yrs old) and I were on Amtrak going down to the game on Sunday when it hit. We didn't feel anything because we were on the move, but they did stop the train a few times to make sure the tracks were okay, even though the quake was pretty far away. I have been through two big quakes the Whiitier narrows quake and the Northridge quake. The Whittier quake was kind of a rolling quake you could actually hear the aftershocks coming, I lived in Pasadena at the time and was about 17 miles from the epi-center. The Northridge quake was worse by far it was a real shaker, I lived about 8 miles from the epi-center of that one and everything came off the walls and out of the cabinets. I rolled over and covered my wife (ex-wife now) till it was over. Come to think of it, that was the most action I'd had in quite a few months. My favorite story from the Northridge quake, was the poor guy that right after the earthquake jumped into his pickup to check on his Mother, who lived a couple of miles away. He came to an intersection on Balboa Blvd. that was flooded due to broken water mains and stalled out. What he didn't know was that the gas mains had broken as well and when he tried to restart his truck the spark from the ignition set off the gas. He escaped but his truck and a nearby trailer park went up in flames. Just not his day. Those were the last two quakes I really remember. It seems like such a long time since than. I think it was the Northridge one where the freeway collaped and the police officer drove his bike off it. Those were interesting things and I remember waking up and the whole house shaking in the rolling sensation. And than there was the buildings where the entire ground floor went underground.
  23. QUOTE(Cali @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) Depending on how big it is, it's just a quick little rumble. If you've ever been in a house of building and a large truck drove by and the window's rattled, that's basically what it's like, except you move a little bit too. If you're sleeping when it happens, which for some reason is when they ALWAYS seem to happen, it's the equivalent of if someone stood at the end of you're bed and shook it for about 7-10 seconds. Me and my friend we're in a dead sleep at our friends house in SD, we both opened our eyes(my left eye only since I was sleeping on my right side) took a quick glace at one another and went right back to sleep. In the morning we both asked if we felt a quake, but to be sure I went to the USGS site to confirm it. Hell I didn't even feel it.
  24. Interesting idea. Personally I think the bench looks good. I think both Pablo and Willie are capable role players and I have zero problem with them. You also will have Carl and eventually Gload to go along with Widger. With those 5 I have no problem. Of course Timo is somewhere in that group as well (although one player would have to be down once Gload is up). However the question comes to Crede/Uribe and if your going to trade for someone your going to trade for a starter. My theory is you better trade for 3b because Uribe is a plus defensive SS and there is zero reason to move him to 3rd and he's too important to the club to have him on the bench (Juan is a good player, no doubt about that). I'm of the camp that says if the Sox acquire a 3B they will deal Crede so with that said Lugo just isn't an option, imo, because I don't see the Sox acquiring a starting SS, they want a 3B. All that said if the price was right Lugo is a quality player, I just don't see where he makes the Sox much better and if your gonna make a deal, you need to make one that makes a marked improvement to the club, imo.
  25. Haha Jake. Its all good, I think we could all use a laugh I didn't see him either, but still can't complain about Count. Everyone has a rocky start and this is pretty much the only time where Contreras hasn't been good (luckily I didn't watch the game either). From the sounds of it the Dbacks were sitting on his fastball, but I think you have to at least look at the fact that Contreras really helped the bullpen by gutting out 6 innings.
