  1. QUOTE(1549 @ May 2, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) No Derrick Turnbow got caught on 'roids by the IOC not long ago, and his stuff didn't regress from what I read. Like I said previously, I think they use them for stamina and recovery not power, as hitters do. (though they say every 10 pounds a pitcher adds to their bench max adds 1 mph to their fastball) It seems to me being ripped could harm a pitchers delivery. It depends, if you rely on your fastball you may find out your in trouble. Velocity can be effected by a few MPH. We all have seen it first hand.
  2. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 2, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) It's still a joke. I can't believe it took Congressional hearings just to make selig propose something 'harsher.' Nobody's gonna take it seriously until the punishment is serious. This has nothing to do with Selig. Selig would of implemented it a long time ago. The problem was the player association never had any reason to get serious about it. Why should they risk having there players get caught, then fined and lose money. Now that the steroid hearings went on and everything else that has happened Selig finally has some leverage to hopefully get the union to agree to this newer deal.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 2, 2005 -> 09:37 AM) You're 100% right, and that's why Selig's new proposal is so important. I fully agree with the position John Kruk took on BBTN yesterday evening - these guys get paid millions of dollars to perform. They know exactly what they are putting in their bodies - it can cost you a million dollars a season if something doesn't work well. The "I didn't know what it was" excuse is going to be garbage in 99.9% of cases, but everyone still employs it, since its their only rational defense. If you have Selig's 50 day suspension proposal become the law of the game, then there is absolutely no excuse for anyone testing positive. These guys would risk losing $100,000+ for even the minimum-wage guys if they had 1 positive test. At that point, if you're putting something in your body wihtout knowing exactly what it is, you deserve to be suspended...and the people who do get suspended will be the ones who still thought they could beat the system. Anyone care to make any wagers about whether or not Rincon's performance level declines around the end of this season? All of your posts in this thread have been fantastic. Very well summing up why Selig's proposal needs to be approved by the players association. I hope Fehr and the players realize this and that the majority who aren't using steroids sign off on it to level the playing field.
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 2, 2005 -> 08:35 AM) Star Tribune Dont know if this has been posted. If it has merge it or delete it. By far the first worthwhile player to get busted. On a sidenote, I hope that Seligs new policy somehow goes through.
  5. Cool stuff....I'm going to pin this up temporarily.
  6. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 1, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) Ugly? Drugs much? The ''other'' girl is the same chick... eliza dushku who i am sure many will agree is not ugly. Anway, i have alot of other back up gifs in mind. I change them a lot. The smiling chick is finally gone which basically everyone liked. What about these. She's the only reason I started watching Tru Calling and hell, now I actually semi regularly watch the show.
  7. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 1, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) No. Not even close. But they are gonna make a sequel for kung fu hustle. Shoalin soccer was suppose to have a sequel but do not know what is happenign with that. Ya, Kung Fu Hustle is by the same people who did Shaolin Hustle but I'm assuming it wasn't supposed to be a sequel, even though some of the same actors were in it. Both really enjoyable films though. Hell, I was bored yesterday so I mooched a free movie off my buddy that works the theatres and saw XXX of all things (no other movies were starting when we got there) and actually it wasn't all that bad. Some pretty badass action scenes. I wouldn't pay good money to see it, but worth renting. Hell its 10000000 times better than Sin City and a lot of other movies I've seen as of late.
  8. Calmn down guys...I'm gonna say one thing...for once ease off on minny a bit.

    Sandlot 2

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ May 1, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) This should be illegal. This movie should never be duplicated unless Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez is in it. Seriously, these previews look like s***. Wtf are these people thinking. Thats Bush I was wondering this too. Thats one of my favorite movies of all time. I loved that movie when I was younger, hell I still love the damn movie. Weird thing was it looks like they were making it the same. If they were going to make it, make it about them at a later stage or something, hell anything but what they have. I'll watch it whenever it comes on TV though just to see...soley cause it has Sandlot before the 2.
  10. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 1, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) Jermaine Dye made contact with the ball all 4 times he went up to the plate that night, IIRC. WHY IN THE HELL WOULD YOU PINCH HIT FOR HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE? The guy has no confidence at the plate or in himself at the given time, so as a manager, you should put him into a situation where he can succeed easily, therefore raising his confidence. PHing anyone for Dye at the time left me mystified, considering what I just said, but then you put in a guy that is hitting WORSE then Dye? f***in brilliant Ozzie. Hindsight is 20-20, but I had felt all along that pinch hitting was the wrong move to make there. No it was a bonehead move when made and is still a bonehead move now. I say that about his moves that pay off too. My theory is if it don't make sense I don't like it. Hunches can work every once in a while but playing yoru best guys and going with the odds are always going to help things work out more often. The key is the Ozzie factor and whether it will outweigh his managerial blunders. The Ozzie factor is what I term motivation, hustle, playing your ass off, and just getting the little things accomplished and from that perspective he seems to be doing a good job (minus a few recent games).
  11. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ May 1, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) Going off of memory, I believe teams were worried about Ryan's commitment to Tony Gwynn and the SDSU program. So yes I believe you are correct. What Ryan are you all talking about?
  12. Technically speaking in Bham, but I know thats what you meant Andrew. I just figured since its always me getting corrected for once I'd correct someone else But ya that deal is looking outstanding. Now if only Kenny could get Bowden to give up someone like Owens for Borch.
  13. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 1, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Birmingham loses 7-4. Young 3-4, Owens 2-4. Villacis rocked, 6 unearned runs. Solid bullpen. Box Score W-S loses 1st of doubleheader 1-0. 3 hits as a team.Box Score Kanny wins 6-5. Liotta not his best work. Ricks 2-4, 2 runs, another walk. Box Score Good to see Ricks maybe getting himself on track. Thats 8 multi hit games in his last 11 for Owens which is damn impressive.
  14. Cool beans Dan Bham will be going up tomorrow and I think WS will shortly follow. Its now going to be more of a season preview/season update
  15. Sounds like you had a good time Minny

    O fors

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ May 1, 2005 -> 07:49 AM) Gooch has the excuse of being new to the league though. He makes the best adjustments of any player I've ever seen. He's exceeded my expectations so far. Ya, I just love his swing. One pitch he'll look way off and then next pitch he's made the adjustment and he hits it hard. He's been a very pleasant surprise.
  17. He was a little banged up at the end of spring but he's starting to get back in his groove. Although Liotta, Gio, and Sean Tracey have all been absolutely dominate down in the minors. And a whole lot more pitchers as well. Thus far the Sox better prospects have been flat out amazing.
  18. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) at least Anderson continues to rake... .338/407/.623 with 4 HR's so far. The only bat that's hotter right now is Jerry Owens. After a slow start, he changed his stance, and since, he has torn up AA pitching. -- .318/.363/.341 w/ 8 SBs 7 multi hit games in his last 10 too. Owens is just scolding the ball.
  19. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) For all of you that b**** out Ozzie for PH Timo over Gload... I'd rather have Willie up over either of them off the bench. Gload has been awful this entire year and he's one of my favorite players (I just like how he's found his way up to the majors). Now he'll be able to go on the dl and then get some rehab time down in Charlotte. The key is he can get some consistent swings.
  20. If a guys going to get hurt I don't mind something along these lines. Its non arm related.
  21. Just to alleviate the 3 losses in a row, how about we all talk about our favorite teams of the past. Mine would have to be that 2000 club. No team have I ever loved so much. The team I thought had the most talent....2 yrs club with Colon,Elo and Buehrle...WOWZERS that was a staff.
  22. Thats it...I'm ensuring a White Sox win tomorrow. Mark my words...they will win and end this losing streak. GO WHITE SOX
  23. These sound like some great commercials.
