  1. I still think Peavy goes tonight...tomorrow AM at the latest.
  2. You were a real badass out of the pen. You'll be missed and we wish you the best of luck on the Rays!!!
  3. Rienzo may be smart enough to know to deny. That said, I remember a few years back when all of the radio stations were reporting one thing about Brandon McCarthy and I was the only one reporting the opposite. Who was right...me, because I got it straight from the horses mouth (albeit we had a pretty open communication channel via email so it wasn't public who my source was at the time; Rienzo tweeting something doesn't mean anything). You just never know. My guess is Rienzo is in fact that back-up plan but he is not actually in Charlotte and he hasn't been told anything definitively. You'd be amazed at how little gets communicated to various players during this time of year. The key is to be quiet and the less people that are in the know the better.
  4. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 56s The White Sox are telling other teams they're going to keep Peavy and build around him. Yeah right! Interesting.
  5. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) So how do these types of trades work? Is there a PTBNL set of player names decided on between teams, and if Crain hits a performance benchmark...the Sox get to pick from the better of the two lists? Usually everything is spelled out and often times the White Sox will have a list of players they can pick from if X, Y, or Z happens. Hopefully for all of our sakes, the info gets released early but usually teams try to keep quiet so those aren't dealt don't know they weren't in the trade.
  6. I wonder what the Sox are getting. I hope we get one impact prospect out of this.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 12:32 PM) Take a look at the actual numbers, there's $30 million or so coming off the books as it is, and another $25 million in the national TV deal. I know they won't spend all $55 million of that since the attendance has gone down, but even if people aren't moved, there's got to be $25 million or more to spend if they choose to. I just don't see them using it. I think this years payroll was a little high and they extended themselves assuming they compete. I see them cutting quite a bit off the books. I really don't see them going into 2014 with anything close to a $100M payroll. I might be mistaken but I truly don't. Peavy & Konerko coming off the books will clear a good amount of room, but if you move Rios, Ramirez, and Dunn, now you are talking about all kinds of room. In fact, in the old days, that would have been the kind of room that could have made them major players on the international market (although I fully expect them to be this upcoming years given that they'll have a large pool thanks to being so s***ty this year). Edit: I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sox potentially buy in the next year or two. Targeting younger players who they could extend (from teams that may not want to offer some of those contracts to). I really don't see them offering any major LT deals on the FA market this off-season. Figure its more likely they'll sit around and go after some guys that sit around and sign them to one year value deals and then look to spin them off if the team isn't in contention. If it is in contention, they would be in a position to potentially add assets (+ have payroll flexibility).
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) Chris Sylvester ‏@MLBInsiderChris 3m #WhiteSox desperatly trying to dump Alex Rios . #Rangers a possibility but the two team's talk haven't gone very far I really think Rios is gone. Ventura doesn't want him around and if you are going to have a fresh start, you need to clear some of those high priced vets, imo. The one exception is probably Dunn/Konerko and I'd be surprised if they didn't at some point have a conversation with Paulie to see what he wants to do (and I wouldn't care if we got nothing for Paulie...its about doing what he would want). Dunn is my x-factor to go. I really think right at the end a couple teams will make a late push for him. Not a lot of power bats out there and Dunn could add value to a team looking for offense (especially with how he's played). The key would be the Sox unloading Rios. If they unload Rios, I think its more likely they move Dunn as I think they'd be more inclined to send some cash with Dunn to ensure they got meaningful talent in return for Adam (which is key, imo...if you can't...then you might as well keep him for another year and move him at next years deadline when he isn't owed as much).
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) You should never count out a team with a strong starting rotation and contracts coming off the books. There would be a lot less flexibility if Dunn, Rios, and Alexei aren't traded. In fact, I'm going to imagine the club would have minimal flexibility (given I'd expect lower attendance, etc).
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) It's going to be so bring when the news breaks that says: "Rays acquire RP Jesse Crain for PTBNL" Yep. The hard part is going to be figuring out who it is on the list.
  11. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 12:09 PM) Seriously, if you're tanking a season then tank it and get some sort of value out of it (spects and pt for young guys). It's not like 2014 looks that promising to begin with. The only situation I understand, and this totally may be possible, is if the offers for Rios and Alexei are absolutely pitiful and if it's concern over money then maybe we can get more flexibility over the offseason. Yep. I could see if the club decided they'd hold off on dealing those two until the off-season or next years deadline. In Rios situation though, it would seem to me that RV doesn't want him around so I expect the Sox to move him. That is the only reason I think he'll get moved and I think Hahn will lower his demands. I'd be thrilled if we got 1 top 3-5 prospect from a system and another top 10 prospect.
  12. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 12:01 PM) @MDGonzales confirms deal sending Jesse Crain to Rays is close; final bids being taken on trade for Jake Peavy: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,4850804.story … Gonzales says again that we don't want to take any salary. I guess we can't afford it as they seem to want to carry Rios and Alexei for some bizarre reason. Stupid if we hold onto Rios / Alexei. If we are going to make trades, we should move those guys too. Clear the payroll, add young talent, and open up roster spots for some of that young talent to play (then use some of the cash on other vets).
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 11:36 AM) Tears of joy if this happens. I'm confident Peavy gets traded. Crain seems to be up to 90% Lindstrom 75% Rios 50% Alexei 10% Dunn 2% I don't really see Dunn getting dealt but I can be wishful. I think Alexei goes. Rios might stick around but I think he goes as well. I think Hahn knows its time to change the tone around here. I think the Dunn deal / rumors will start on Wednesday and it will be a pretty last minute deal if it happens (and could even occur in August). Everyone else I am fairly confident go by Wednesday, with at least one move today and another move tomorrow (I expect 3 total guys moved already between today/tomorrow...one day prior to the deadline). Peavy will go today / early tomorrow.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 11:30 AM) Here's mine Jake Peavy: Not traded Alex Rios: Not traded Alexei Ramirez: Not traded Jesse Crain: Moved to Tampa for a package that is near impossible to speculate on Matt Lindstrom: Moved to Boston for a low level starting pitcher with a live arm and is otherwise completely terrible. Other: Nothing else of note other than the fun of watching Soxtalk cry. Jake Peavy: Traded (St Louis) Alex Rios: Traded (Pittsburgh) Alexei Ramirez: Traded (St. Louis) Jesse Crain: Traded (Tampa) Matt Lindstrom: Traded (Boston) Adam Dunn: Traded (Baltimore)
  15. I had a dream last night that we traded Reed for Castellanos + others.
  16. Interesting. Glad to see things are progressing on this front! Hopefully Crain kicks some ass for whatever team he goes to!
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 10:30 AM) Why is Greg Jennings ripping on Aaron Rodgers? Doesnt he know who his current QB is? He is going to be wishing for AR this time next year Because he thinks it will create some unrest in Green Bay and maybe negatively impact the Packers. Not saying it will, but that is what Greg Jennings seems to be thinking.
  18. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 07:56 PM) Any manager that watches his team lose game after game after game and makes no adjustments to the batting order is not a very good manager. I don't know the solution. This team couldn't post a good on base percentage in AAA. Seriously, you aren't going to win hitting/getting on base at the rate the White Sox do and no change in the order would possibly save that. What the Sox need is an injection of young talent (and some financial savings which can be used to invest in some other players to put around some of the infused talent). Hahn has a golden opportunity to really capitalize because as s***ty as we are, we have some individual players who don't fit long term and have good value on the trade market.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 07:53 PM) For Russell and Gray, the Sox should be eating a lot more than 1-2 million. Russell would far and away be the top prospect in the system. They could send over 5-7M for all I care. Getting Russell + another top prospect would be a major coup, imo.
  20. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 07:43 PM) Yep. It's clearly posturing. And to be honest Russell and Gray is probably too much for Peavy. Russell is a top 20 prospect in baseball to many. You start out asking for the moon and negotiate from there. Gray and Russell will probably lead to some sort of combination of Gray/Ynoa/Choice/Alcantara/Bostick. I'd be quite happy with Russell and Gray. I wonder if the Sox would add someone like Lindstrom or pick up some cash. If they picked up some cash, A's really makes sense. I could see where they would value having a guy like Peavy around next year as well. Plus in that division, they have to strike while the iron is hot and the Angels are a hot mess and Texas is really struggling right now.
  21. i really want the Cards to get Alexei and Peavy. I think a package with two of their top prospects + another good prospect and I'm a happy camper. Anything more is gravy.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 03:38 PM) When the payroll is over 100 million, yes he should. He's getting a free pass because he's Robin Ventura. If Mark Parent or Joe McEwing got the job at the same time, and the team was playing like this, everyone would be calling for the manager's head. I don't know what to say. Last year this team executed flawless baseball. This year they are a complete and utter s*** show. Horrific fundementals and obviously a flat out awful offense. I don't know what to say given I gave Ventura a lot of credit for last years great fundementals and now this year, does he get the blame for the s***ty fundementals or should he have not gotten the credit for either year? Or did this team just quit? I really don't know...all I know is Hahn needs to make about 4 trades by Wednesday (and I'd prefer more then that). Clean house. Outside of last year, I've seen about 4-5 straight years of crappy fundementals and I'm frustrated by it. Things need to change.
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) I know what you mean by this but Dunn will definitely clear waivers. He could be moved in August if someone wanted. Lindstrom, Crain, and Rios should all get moved between now and July 31st. Plus Alexei. That is 4 guys (in some instances Alexei might go with Peavy). Plus you have Dunn and even potentially Danks or Addison Reed to at least consider putting in front of teams. Reed might be the best closer out there and if a team gets desperate, I'd absolutely move Reed for the right package. You can't possibly have legitimate discussions on all of those guys if you wait on all of them till the end.
  24. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) Reinsdorf is f***ing up if he's making Hahn nickle and dime people. We need to take advantage of the payroll flexibility we have. Exactly...figure out a way to move Dunn and Rios too. They'll have plenty of money so the fact that they'd have to eat a few million to get some more talent (if a team does in fact request that) wouldn't be a big deal. I'd hope we'd be willing to do the same for Rios if that is what it takes for Pitt to make a quality offer involving 2 top 10 prospects.
