Rienzo may be smart enough to know to deny. That said, I remember a few years back when all of the radio stations were reporting one thing about Brandon McCarthy and I was the only one reporting the opposite. Who was right...me, because I got it straight from the horses mouth (albeit we had a pretty open communication channel via email so it wasn't public who my source was at the time; Rienzo tweeting something doesn't mean anything). You just never know. My guess is Rienzo is in fact that back-up plan but he is not actually in Charlotte and he hasn't been told anything definitively. You'd be amazed at how little gets communicated to various players during this time of year. The key is to be quiet and the less people that are in the know the better.

Figure its more likely they'll sit around and go after some guys that sit around and sign them to one year value deals and then look to spin them off if the team isn't in contention. If it is in contention, they would be in a position to potentially add assets (+ have payroll flexibility).
