  1. I now expect the White Sox to make a decent size free agent signing (or to add payroll somehow). They have now officially cleared a heck of a lot of payroll to the point that they could make one or two big signings and still be well under last years payroll.
  2. http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/prospect-...z-leury-garcia/ Fangraphs article that talks a bit about Garcia who did play in about 25 games with the Rangers this year. He's known more for his defense and speed then his bat, but he's really been young and moved up aggressively.
  3. Interesting. It would appear the Sox ultimately decided the flexibility was more important. *Crossing my fingers* that the PTBNL is someone good.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:28 AM) So I emailed my buddy who works in the car industry about the Volt. He basically said not to get it now (or if I do, lease it) because the 2015 will be faster and have a 20-40% increase in range. The value of the current model will drop like a brick. He also warned me that the battery loses a lot of efficiency after 70k miles. I think we'll still check it out, but maybe think about leasing it for a few years instead of buying it. Re: Tesla, he knows someone who works there and apparently they have a goal of releasing the generation 3 model S in 2016 for about $35k. Supposedly GM has all kinds of Lease incentives. Not sure the difference between how thinks work in CA and Illinois though. GM was really trying to push it and they had negative money factors, etc, a while back as they really want to push the crap out of the thing and I think technically there are still a lot of state benefits you can get as well to help reduce the cost, etc.
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) FWIW, Rollins cleared waivers. We're stuck with Ramirez unless we eat salary. Alexei is better. I also would be stunned if Alexei cleared waivers.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 05:40 PM) Was he the one who throws 100? Yep.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) I don't see why the Sox should send any money. Even though I feel he is grossly overpaid, a lot of people on here are indicating his salary isn't totally out of line for huge-market teams. If we can't get a "great" prospect for Rios, then take 2 lower level young, average players with a bit of an upside and call it a trade. As long as Texas pays the whole thing. I would be on board with that return to be frank. I wouldn't eat half of his contract cause at that point, I'd likely rather have Rios then whatever the club is getting in return.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 01:01 PM) Like I said, with the Volt, they were building this version as a test-bed. They used the structure of another car already being produced by Chevy, they didn't redesign it. That means they needed to steal a lot of room for the batteries and the electric engine, leading to less space in the car. The 2015 redesign should help cover that problem. I think by the time I'm in the market for another car, dare I say it, I might actually be looking at something like this as a 2nd car. Of course by that point I'm sure all the good incentives will be gone and then the cost/benefit won't be as good. Chevy has a good thing going with the Volt and if they can make the car roomier and also figure out a way to get solid gas mileage with the gas engine, that would be one great vehicle.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 12:56 PM) Yeah this will be the big limitation - size. We only have the one now, so it would have to fit him (13 months old) in the back. If not, there's no way. Kind of crazy that they didnt' think about this when building the vehicle. You'd think it would be common place to have the back-seats of this type of car being able to handle all types of child safety seats. It isn't like we are talking about a smart car or a coupe, which you could at least understand the notion that those type of cars aren't marketed for typical family types. Edit: Now that I think about it, I have a friend who has a Volt and he loves it (charges for free at work and gets carpool lane access for free). I swear he fits his newborn in the back no problem though. At least I presume he does. I guess I never look to see which car he drives when he comes over to our place with his younggun (who is
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 12:48 PM) There are indications in that he wasn't moved at the deadline. Oops, nvm, misinterpreted what you meant. The fact that he was claimed tells me one thing...the Sox did in fact get some sort of offers for Rios at the deadline which involved prospects and either no cash going back or minimal cash. Or at least I'd suspect as much since Texas put this claim in. I do suppose that Texas previously balked at the notion of paying his entire salary and didn't become willing until Cruz went out. My guess is Texas is more willing to agree to the White Sox demands at this point...but I would think it is unlikely they just let Rios walk (at least based upon this fact pattern where i assume the Sox previously had gotten offers of some sort w/no or limited money for Rios...my guess is they want a good prospect or two for Rios and at that point would probably be willing to send 2-4 million back to the other team).
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) Do you own stock in Nissan? Major flaw in the Leaf is it lacks all of the flexibility of a Volt (e.g., the fact that you can actually go more then 30 miles....albeit using gas...but that is a pretty huge safety net).
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 12:18 PM) Also, Exelon may offer you a special rate for charging it. Our company offers a lower rate for electric vehicle owners between 10 PM and 6 AM and that includes all the electricity you use during that time, not just charging your car. Also, a lot of companies have added electric charging stations in the office parking lots so you may in fact be able to charge the car for free at work.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) No team is going to want to do a PTBNL with someone on their 40 man unless you hold a gun to the team's head. Guys who are already on the 40 man roster can be called up in September. The Sox aren't going to PTBNL for a guy and then have him contribute to another team's chances. IF they want Rios and that is the price, then they would. If they are making the deal and including a prospect from their 40 man, they are doing so because that is the price it will take to get Rios. Would they rather have Rios or that other guy on the 40? It really isn't necessarily their option if that is indeed the price that Hahn thinks the Rangers need to pay for Rios. Note: I don't know what that price is, but if thats what the Sox think it is, the other team has 3 options...1 call the bluff and take the contract; 2 accept the trade; 3 decline the trade and lose out on Rios (because the Sox aren't willing to give him up for nothing).
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 12:36 PM) Whatever players on the 40 man they wanted to trade would have to get by Houston. That's it. I'm going to assume the Astros would select any good prospect headed their way, so if it is someone on the 40, it will be a PTBNL. There are plenty of good prospects who aren't on the 40 man roster though.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 12:34 PM) How does it work with what is coming back? If what the Sox want is on the 40 man, wouldn't they have to clear waivers as well? I think the Sox will try to buy a prospect, but if that fails will just let him go. They would have to clear waivers or could be a PTBNL and slid through that way.
  16. Very interesting. If the Sox just let him walk without adding something, I would expect them to be players for one major FA signing. I think they'll be able to get something in return or at least i expect Hahn to play hardball and the fact that he didn't just give Rios away at the deadline should help give him some leverage wen he talks to teams.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 04:20 PM) Not that this will ever happen, but for discussion purposes, how good would our offense be if we signed Cano & McCann? Could we legitimately compete next year with the following lineup? Again, not suggesting we do anything like this. 1) De Aza, LF 2) Beckham, 3B 3) Cano, 2B 4) Rios, RF 5) Dunn, DH 6) Garcia, CF 7) McCann, C 8) Viciedo, 1B 9) Ramirez, SS Bench: veteran IF, Phegley, Gillaspie, & Danks That lineup would be significantly better then the current lineup. I don't think I'd have McCann and his near .900 OPS hitting down in the 7 spot though. If we had the rotation this year with that sort of lineup and they played decent defense, then sure that team could legitimately compete, imo. The Sox aren't going to spend the amount of money it will take to sign those two though. And if they did, it would be because they cleared a hell of a lot of other salary. McCann could be a legitimate possibility and even that I doubt.
  18. Really goes to show if this team can clean up its defense, and find some more offense next year, they have a shot to compete right away with the rotation and nucleus in the pen.
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 09:00 PM) Stone is awesome, just not with Hawk. He's the best local baseball guy around by far but it doesn't show. Hawk and Wimpy are so good together. Even Hawk haters will admit that. Hawk goes back to being good whne Wimpy is around. They have tremendous chemistry.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 08:20 PM) Hawk and Stone were talking about how much they like ADA in the 2nd spot. I agree and wouldn't mind seeing him there for the rest of the year. I'd like him in that spot too. Would be nice to find a leadoff hitter.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 08:12 PM) How awesome is Beckham at barreling up pitches now He looks like he did his rookie year. Hard hit balls all the time. Its great. I really hope this is what we get from him going forward. And if it is, the good thing is the Sox will have money next year to extend him (I wouldn't hand him an extension in the off-season, I wait till May/June and then if he's still performing, then I extend him). Q is who I'd extend.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 07:55 AM) Please don't say 50 HR season. No White Sox has ever done that, and the last young guy on here I heard was capable of doing it was Josh Fields. Lol....good ole Josh Fields. And I'd be freaking stunned if Tank hit 50 in a year. In this non-steroid era that is extremely unlikely.
  23. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 09:51 PM) Really now? You get a potential ace in Martinez or Wacha, and 3 good left handed bats to really balance out the lineup (we have zero LHB in the minors). I like it much better than ones Q posted. They can throw in Blazek and some lower level guys as well. Martinez and Wacha aren't on the same stratosphere as a guy like Sale. I'm not moving Sale in that package. We have an ace and a strong rotation...lets use the money we have, hope some of our guys develop, and try rebuilding the offense. A guy like Brian McCann is a start.
  24. No one will give what I'd want for Sale. Plus Sale is huge if you are going to contend in the postseason. McCann isn't all that bad, but all the injury issues are troublesome. Career 119 OPS+ is pretty nice out of a catcher (problem is he'll have to move positions at some point). However, its a major upgrade over Phegley/FLowers production. Someone probably gives him a lot of money.
