Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
Chisoxfn replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) Well that's just f***ing stupid. I don't blame them for not eating any of his 2014 salary, but not eating some money left 2013 is idiotic if doing so will get us a better return. I can't think money is a major concern with Peavy's deal. And I would think if ultimately a team wanted the sox to eat money, they would (or at least they better) be willing to eat 2M to get another good prospect. -

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 01:50 PM) We are hearing actual teams and prospect names today, though. And I don think Peavy would say he felt like today was his last day and bring all the luggage if Hahn didn't tell him that something was up. At some point, Hahn has to pull the trigger. You can't go to Wednesday with all of your guys still here. You need to start pulling the trigger and then move your focus to other guys that need to be moved. Once Peavy goes, I think it opens up other teams potential need to go after a Dunn or Rios, imo. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) Martinez has true ace potential. Wacha's ceiling is closer to mid-rotation than top of the rotation Lets get all 3. If we got the three of them for Ramirez, Peavy...I'd be flipping ecstatic. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) Passan also mentioned the asking price was indeed more than what Texas gave up for Garza. Hopefully we receive more too! -

I really like Jake. I'll always root for him (unless he's going against the Sox). -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) Bowden suggested it. Saw his tweet lol. But who knows. Dodgers are looking for help in the pen. They'd easily do that deal, imo. No idea why Rangers would.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 5m Joe Nathan is being shopped by the Rangers for an established hitter, other teams say. More than just internal talks. That's not good for the Rios talks. Damn you Rangers Maybe a 3 team deal where Rios goes to Rangers, Nathan goes to another contender, and Sox get prospects. It would be odd for a contender to make a deal with another contender involved though (and who else would want to be involved). Only logical thing would be the 3rd team being in the NL.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 12:01 PM) Yeah Dickerson is a 1B who's hitting 296 14 HR and 57 RBIs in AA. And Kingham is 3-2 with a 2.89 ERA in AA. I'd be quite content with that for Rios.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 09:53 AM) JIM BOWDEN @JimBowdenESPNxm 16s Cardinals continue pursuit of Jake Peavy and Alexei Ramirez with Carlos Martinez, Joe Kelly and Kolton Wong's names being mentioned #RUMORS Done and done. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 02:54 PM) I really doubt the Sox would have sent out that survey if they aren't going to be dropping some guys. Hawk elued to fans understanding if the team decided to play for 2015. It woulld be shocking if nothing happened, but Hahn has to hold oit for the best package. He can't get ansy and settle for something when other teams may offer more as the deadline nears, or another layer or 3 may go down. They need to move all of the following if they can and should be playing for 2015 (and this off-season sign a few vets that are good role models who can be of value at the deadline and help get you more chips): - Danks - Rios - Dunn - In August (ask Konerko if he wants to stay or go) - Lindstrom - Crain - Peavy - Ramirez De Aza is absent from that list and I'm not moving Viciedo or Becks at this point unless someone overwhelms me. I want value for Alejandro, otherwise I see no harm holding him another year and then moving him. The rest of the rotation stays put as well. Let them continue to develop and by 2015 you should have a pretty good rotation, quite a few more chips, and a lot more money to spend. If they do things right, they could be at least interesting next year (albeit not contenders) and contend in 2015.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 09:45 PM) Most of the regular readers here are pretty familiar with Marcus. He's a victim of a system that privileges potential and, more specifically, specific tools over holistic abilities. Marcus probably lacks any plus physical tool, so he's found himself pretty much off the radar. Well, he's now on it with his fantastic play. We're seeing: -at least adequate defense at both middle infield positions, possibly better -exceptional plate disciplines: a high walk total that outnumbers his strikeouts -some pop: he hit his 13th homer tonight -some stolen base ability, though it is sub-ideal for a potential leadoff hitter as some might see him So here's a thread to talk about him. A thread like this seemed to put Andy Wilkins on a hot streak, so why not another? Here's a question to start things off: If we trade Alexei Ramirez this week, should the White Sox call up Marcus Semien to play shortstop? Actually, Semien was pretty toolsy when the Sox drafted him. His production in college slid and didn't match the tools and thus the Sox were able to draft a guy later then people anticipated he would have been drafted (preseason he was a better prospect vs. when the Sox took him at the end of his college season).Part of that was between his sophmore and junior year, the metal bat changes were made to the college game. Note: I'm not implying he has Arod's tools, but this guy isn't a Retheford type player who doesn't have a lot of the typical tools you'd see in a prospect. Guy has a good arm, good range, good fielder. He doesn't have the elite arm or range you'd see people gush about, but it is more then solid, especially with his bat. He has a shot to play at either SS or 2B.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) I understand that. And I know we kind of jerked him around between gaining and losing weight to play DT or DE. But I still think he provided good depth on the DL as a whole, and could have definitely spent valuable backup minutes at DT. Even undersized, he's clearly better than any DT on our roster not named Melton or Paea. And it isn't even close. Our dline is extremely thin. Kyle, outside of Wooten, Shea, and Peppers, there is nothing all that grand about our ends either. Idonjie clearly had a place on this roster and would have been an excellent vet to have filling in and playing on pass rushing downs. For god sakes Kyle, you are listing guys like Irvin. Irvin is a giant nobody compared to Idonjie. Emery screwed the pooch on that. Thankfully, Wooten is starting to look like a player. I'm curious to see if he can stay healthy and also see how he can continue his development without Marinelli around (and if he will continue to take steps forward).

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 11:04 AM) That's fine. Target someone at low-A ball and see where they wind up in 4 years. Exactly. Look for a raw, potential high upside arm. Sox could use guys like that. Hell, look at the Jason Frasor deal (isn't that who we got Webb/Jaye for?).

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 11:59 AM) In my opinion, it would be a big mistake to not move Peavy by the end of the month. I agree. I think you can get too much for him not too and moving him can really be a major start to the rebuilding process. We already botched moving Floyd and now we won't get the value for Crain we should have (and let me tell you...we could have gotten a top 3-5 prospect from an organization for Crain had he been 100% so I'm pretty bummed about this). Not sure what we'll get for Lindstrom but we should be able to get a solid top 10 guy in a decent organization, which again would be helpful long term (maybe a top 10 plus maybe a raw guy with some upside that is in low A ball). If I were to deal Lindstrom, I'd be looking at raw, high upside guys in other organizations. I'd probably target pitchers since our org has a better tendency of developing those type of guys. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 10:40 AM) Keep in mind Peavy pitched 2 games with a broken rib and was hit hard. His ERA for his other starts is right about 3.00 and that is pitching with a terrible defense. I thin Sox fans are really underestimating how good he has actually been this year and last. Peavy has been really good since he got healthy for the Sox. If I were a contender, he's clearly the best piece and you probably get him for less then the Cubs got Garza (even though I know everyone on this board expects more for him, I just don't know that will happen). If we get 2 legitimate top 4 prospects from a team plus another 1-2 top 15 guys (again from a solid organization), I'll consider myself pleased with the move. Ideally I'd like 3-4 top 10 guys (including 2 of the teams top prospects) and depending on the organization, if we get in a bidding war, it could happen. -

QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 03:51 PM) If you don't get a little bit of dust in your eye at this story, there's something wrong with you: Very touching from everyone that played a part. Very very touching. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 02:36 PM) I agree with this assessment. Im trying to be positive, but I think Ive made my thoughts on this subject clear at the end of last year. Its hard for me to positive. I think he's an arrogant and pompous deuche.

QUOTE (lord chas @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) Yes, but can be risky. If a player exceeds expectations his price goes that much higher. If he doesn't you let him go but now you have a void to fill If you have guys that have performed and are worthy of an extension, f***ing extend them. Don't be a giant boob. Everyone always blasted Angelo, but as of this point, last years draft looks pretty lousy. We'll see...maybe Shea steps up. The only saving grace in that draft was Jeffrey and he still has a lot to prove (and anyone with half a brain would have taken him). I suppose I can give him credit for making some solid FA signings this year but letting Idonjie walk and now having turds making almost as much as him doesn't help (Israel was much better then Sed Ellis, who retired, and Anderson).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 11:47 AM) This is going to be a completely different Bears team in a year or two. There is some real hate between the new management group and the players. Adam Jahns @adamjahns 11m #Bears CB Charles Tillman: "I’ve got one year. Do my year and be done. If they want to bring me back, they’ll bring me back." Personally, I haven't bought into Emery yet. I think he has a lot to prove still and I don't like how outspoken he was regarding the lack of resigning guys. Just STFU. No point in saying it. Plus, with 44 guys due contracts, you can't possibly just let everyone be FA's.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 11:22 AM) Anyone think they would be willing to give up early on Heyward? i keep wondering that myself. One problem is Heyward already has 4 years of service time.

Semien has some nice tools too. This isn't one of those overachievers, the kid has talent.
-
If the Sox purely clear Dunn's contract and get an organizations top 7 or 8 prospect I'd be happy. I think the goal for Hahn should be to get rid of most of the veterans, add some good pieces, clear salary, and position this team for a fresh start in 2014.

QUOTE (mike65 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 04:41 PM) Maybe the Cardinals and White Sox really are just talking about Alexi Ramirez. Color me surprised. https://twitter.com/JimBowdenESPNxm/status/...172723428790272 As a White Sox fan, I think this is how you get the best value.
