  1. This deal makes zero sense. Maybe with other pieces, but it would put the Sox in a total financial mess.
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 09:07 AM) I can't post the full rant I usually do about BABIP but we can believe it at I'm not a believer in BABIP as a useful stat for hitters, and we don't need it to explain Carlos's aberrant stats last year. BAPIP is a pretty big bull-s*** stat. I do think if you factor it in with line-drive rate and some other stuff that it can turn into a relatively decent piece of information though.
  3. Sox Talking With Rays, Discuss Jenks and a Crawford for Quentin Swap
  4. They are talking more about it today on ESPN.
  5. I heard Kurkijan on the airwaves last night and he said that he's had discussions with two high ranking officials within the Yankees and Red Sox organization who say they will not be giving up what the Jays are asking for (4 top notch prospects). Kurkijan went on to say that the Yankees couldn't see giving up more than 2 and the Red Sox didn't think they'd give up more than one. The reason behind this was not only do you give up significant prospects, but it is also going to take a 3 to 4yr 20M per season extension to go with it and no team can afford that right now. He also didn't believe any other team, outside of the Yankees/Red Sox really had the ability in this financial environment to do the move. So with that said, I really don't expect the Sox to get Roy.
  6. My predictions looked smart...Harbaugh has been contacted about the ND job. I think he'd be a tremendous hire. Maybe not a big name to those not familiar with the Pac 10, but he's done a hell of a job at Stanford and is going to do some pretty big things. He's not Meyer or Stoops, but I think he's excellent and could actually be a better get than Kelly. Plus, having his pro connections should be helpful.
  7. I'm really enjoying Flash-Forward. Still have to watch Friday Night Lights. Will probably watch it tomorrow. That show is so f***ing good.
  8. QUOTE (Ranger @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) You should. It's a lot better than I thought it would be. Its a freaking classic.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 03:00 PM) I got Iowa in that game. And where are you hearing this about Henderson? Is he even taking a visit to Iowa City? Top school are supposed to be USC, OSU, and Fla He's already made an unofficial visit to Iowa and now there have been some rumors trickling out about him moving Iowa up on the radar. We'll see what happens, but he has continued to mention Iowa in his list of 8 schools. I don't know how much I believe Iowa is the front-runner, but I think they are a top 4 option. They have one of the best coaches in the country, have a history under that coach of having Olineman drafted high, and that coach specializes in the oline where he had coached in the pro's. Above that he'd be going to a school within driving distance for his family to still attend the games. A lot lines up, but I still personally think OSU has a bit of the lead as they clearly are the bigger name school. I don't think he leaves his family, everything I've read about the kid indicates he'll stay with his family. The other big lure is he is a two sport star and wants to play basketball so if a team were to offer that avenue up it might sweeten the pot.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) Over/under on punts in the game is 1.5. You haven't faced a defense as bad as Georgia Tech's all year. It consists of a top 10 draft pick and then 10 high school caliber players. Is that Iowa punts or total punts? I realize GT can score, but Iowa has a premiere defense and I would expect that we could force at least two GT punts. And Iowa doesn't exactly have a potent offense, although they are close. The exciting thing is a few insiders are talking about Henderson having Iowa climbing up on his list and some believe Iowa is at the top of his list. If they could land him, it would be Iowa's best recruiting class in..well...forever.
  11. All I can say is, lets go Hawkeyes, lets beat Fathom and his Georgia Techies!!!!
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) Haha, reports that the Big 12 bowls will go like this: NC: Texas Cotton: Oklahoma State Holiday: Nebraska Alamo: Tech Sun: Nebraska Insight: Iowa State Independence: Texas A&M Texas: Mizzou Some Mizzou rep was interviewed in the KC Star and apparently the Insight committee is "suddenly enamored" with ISU. Might be a good sign for Iowa to the Fiesta as well, as I would imagine they'd try and get fans of both teams to stay for a week in Az. My Iowa prediction was right. Orange Bowling my Hawks go!!! Badass!
  13. This is one of the biggest bulls*** rumors I've ever seen.
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) Henry Blanco signed a 1 year, $1.5M deal with the Mets. Damn it, that would have made so much sense for the Sox. Now what do they do at backup catcher. I don't want Flowers on our roster if he isn't getting significant at bats. I spose Olivo is always an option. Wite: I personally don't think 1.5M is all that bad for a plus defensive back-up catcher that has hit lefties pretty well over the past couple years.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 12:33 PM) Saito signs with Atlanta. $3 million for one year. How many old relievers do the Braves need? Seems like a very good deal, definitely one we could have offered. Wow, I had that one pegged pretty good. Very good deal for him.
  16. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 07:32 AM) $18M total. That's an incredible haul for Polanco. I'm curious as to what Boras' asking price is for Adrian Beltre if the Phillies would rather shell out $18M for a 34 year old Placido Polanco who had a down year at the plate in 2009 and hasn't played the position since 2005 and a total of 153 INN since 2003. The Phils wanted Figgins but I guess his asking price was too high. I assume Beltre's was too, but this is a pretty hefty price to pay. He's an offensive upgrade over Feliz, but a major defensive downgrade. I also think 3yrs 18M is pretty ridiculous considering he's a well below league average third baseman.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) -Tiger Woods He's admitting part of it.
  18. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) No doubt Kenny is chasing him. The Pads should move him and stockpile prospects. He's got a very enticing contract that would make the trade a system-gut of the Sox pursue it. Seriously, the Pads are probably asking for Floyd, Hudson and Flowers or something like that. Thats where I draw the line. I refuse to give up Floyd. Outside of Peavy, he is the clubs best starter. I do think Danks could over-take him though and I believe Buehrle is our 4th best starter, although his leadership, experience and contract make him our #2. But he's a damn good #2 and a ridiculously awesome #4.
  19. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) I'm 22, been employed through various state agencies and held other jobs and I've never been tested. I had to do one at my current job. Healthcare companies have stricter rules.
  20. Looking forward to catching both of this shows tomorrow on my day lag.
  21. Wow, Red Sox got Wagner and now get a couple picks as comp for him. Damn, I really wanted the Sox to grab him (last year at the waiver-deadline).
  22. And if you read between the lines there are a lot of hints that the Sox have talked to the Pads about Gonzalez. On top of that, you know damn well that the Angels would be interested in listening to any deal that got Matthews Jr out of town.
  23. I haven't seen Kenny deny a f***ing thing. MLBTR doesn't even have sources anyway. They are a walking RSS Feed.

    Films Thread

Finally saw Boondock Saints 2...f***ing terrible. I should have walked out. The people I saw it with all agreed, although the crowd was really energized and into the movie. But, imo, complete garbage and one of the worse movies I've seen over the past few years.
