THE OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2009 MLB DRAFT THREAD
This is probably where Brothers goes, but I still say Cards are one of those teams that might think twice and go best available and grab Miller. But I'd be shocked if it was anyone other than those two guys.

Is Miller a UT committ? I assume so?

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) Sure seems like we should have our choice of guys who dropped. No lock, but I think one of the four guys the Sox are targeting will be there: Brothers/Arnett/Mitchell/Everette My guess is they are no longer interested in Trout.

Brothers probably goes to the Cards, but I don't know if they expected Miller to be there. Otherwise it'll be Brothers.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) signability? He's asking for a lot of dough, but a top 12 talent.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) Shelby Miller might be there. If he gets past Florida, a good chance, although with the new stadium deal he might be a good pick here, I think the Cards gobble him up. Cards are also very high on Brothers. Marlins like Arnett a bit too and the Kennesaw State boys.

Solid set of picks by the Dbacks. If the Marlins want to spend, Miller would be a great fit and definately goes with there overall scouting philosphy. If they want to go cheaper, they go Chad James, imo.

Ya, I don't think Gibson is a tough sign, so he might still be a possibility, otherwise I'm thinking Pollack.
-

They'll go with an easy sign, thats for certain. Them and the Angels have the most picks in the draft.

I think Gibson might go here, its about the only place he'd go, otherwise I see him falling outside of the top 25, maybe even the 1st round, although the Cubs might go the value route on him. Pollack is a definate possibility as well.

The thing is, most every way I saw the draft shaking out I saw Brothers/Arnett off the board, which than put the Sox at taking the prep outfielder and than the guy from OU or someone similar.
-
THE OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2009 MLB DRAFT THREAD
An outfielder and a pitcher will go off the board in the next two picks to the DBacks, but they also like Borchering.

Arnett probably falls. Fathom, Sox have a preference of Arnett/Brothers over the outfielders. So if those guys are on the board, they take em. Not sure about scheppers but again, it wouldn't at all be the Sox MO. I also can't comment on Gibson.
-
THE OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2009 MLB DRAFT THREAD
It is looking more and more likely that one of Arnett/Brothers/Gibson is there and Scheppers will probably be there unless someone surprises us. Cards are about the only team I can think of with the pockets that might do that, but they love prep players in general. Dbacks of two years ago would have gobbled up Scheppers but not anymore.

Thank you. White probably goes here, but the Tribe likes Brothers a lot. White is great value though.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) Will Texas pass up Shelby Miller for Alex White? Would be the smart choice. I don't think they do. They love the Texas kid, but they'll take Purke, imo.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) Cleveland would LOVE the chance to take Alex White. I forgot about White. He probably goes to the Tribe. Dang near a lock.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) Oakland going to take Green? Green goes here and than one of the prep Texas kids will go to the Rangers right after. Brothers might go to the Tribe right after. That would be my guess at least, but they could take a shot at Gibson, but I doubt it. I see the Tribe taking an arm though.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) I can't see the Sox taking Scheppers or Gibson. Goes against our style. In terms of what? Gibson doesn't have high demands or anything. He's a college pitcher with a good arm. Fits right into our style. Scheppers demands haven't been ridiculous, most everyone has speculated similar to Crow's price range. Plus whoever drafts him has leverage. The injuries are a question though. Royals with a great pick.

THE OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2009 MLB DRAFT THREAD
Stellar pick by the Rockies. A prep lefty who was topping out at 97-98 during the high school playoffs out west. The guy is easily the best prep arm in the draft and that sort of power from the left side, especially out of high school is very very rare.
-
THE OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2009 MLB DRAFT THREAD
If we took em, Crow/Scheppers would be stellar. Might be a prep arm that would be awesome too.
-
THE OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2009 MLB DRAFT THREAD
KC might take one of the Mizzu boys. Would be a great pick too and money hasn't got in there way in the past year or two. Last year they had a stellar draft and were very willing to pay. I was wrong, Storen is going to stay in the pen, so he should make a pretty immediate impact for the Nats. They'll probably open the 2010 season with both of there 1st round picks on the MLB roster. Rocks are either going prep arm or Borchering.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) So much for us getting Storen at 23. He really rose up a lot in the last few days. And, btw, Dan mentioned it earlier, but the clapping after every pick is really annoying me. The Nats were about the only team that had him that early and it was a signability thing. If the Nats took someone else, he goes in the 20-30 range.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) Nats selected Drew Storen. Wow, overdraft? Nats were taking a signability pick and the whole world knwe it would be Storen. They are going to spend 20+M on the top pick, nothing wrong with a signability pick at 10. Storen will be moved back into the rotation.
