Sox sign Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) Well, from that perspective, we can say signing MacDougal and giving Contreras a contract through 2009 cost us even more, another draft. Heck, didn't we spend half a million on that Korean pitcher who's done pretty much zero? I think it's a great sign to send to the fanbase. Agreed, which is why I think its great when the Sox make small moves even late in the season when they are out of contention (ie when they moved Tadahito and Mack) as that small funds can go out to help you sign a few more guys into your farm system as international free agents (or give a 7th rounder a bit more money than you typically would).

Sox sign Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) Low-risk, high-reward. Awesome. It's not necessarily low-risk. If you think about it an 11M contract would be similar to that of an 11M signing bonus (a little different, but similar). However, given the scheme of things you could have him pan out tremendously. Fantastic move but if he didn't pan out, you'd be talking about more money than the Sox spent on the entire 2008 draft.

Four added to 40-man
QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) Whisler had 27 starts at Charlotte. 12-10, 3.81 ERA 156 innings 45 BB 71 K He'll get picked. I'm surprised he wasn't protected. Sounds like the Sox have some plans with those last three spots on the 40-man. Maybe Viciedo gets a spot. Any day now... All you have to do is watch him pitch and you'll quickly realize his numbers were a complete fluke.

Pure Speculation....
Closed till I can clean up the bickering and merge this into the other thread. On a sidenote, just cause it was posted in another thread on some other forum doesn't give another member the right to call them out or be snarky with them.

FYI - GBeck has a blog about playing in the AFL
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 08:51 PM) It was Jeff Bajenaru (sp?) right? Really great guy, big sabermetrics guy too, never really caught on as a reliever in the big leagues though. Jim Bullard had posted here as well.

Eric Hinske
He'd be a nice bench option and could be a nice platoon partner for Fields. Plus he could fill in at the corner outfield spots in a bind as well as 1B. But he probably would want more money than it would be worth.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
I was at the game and I was in awe at how good Rose is. He doesn't necessarily have great handles at all times but he is so quick and his ability to just stop and pop with full body control is ridiculous.

Crisp to the Royals
Sox could still target DeJesus. I don't think the Royals will move him but there is obviously a good rappore as the Sox and Royals have made numerous deal in recent years.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) It's here If they are going to do it, why wouldn't they have done it already? Free agency is open and he could sign any time now. And of course Kalapse answers that questin here Why not wait all the way until the deadline. No reason to lock yourself into the possibility of arbitration until you absolutely have to.

Baseball America White Sox Top 10 Prospects
QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) BA actually saw that I endorsed him, checked with my track record, and followed my pick. It's good to see he is rated as the best defensive infielder too. His bat won't carry him to the bigs alone. Some top people at BA read these forums on a relatively regular basis. Although Phil Rogers is the one ultimately responsible for the lists, a lot of info still comes from other BA people.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) From the scouting reports and write-ups I've seen posted here and elsewhere, it appears Marquez, in the span of one year, went from the #7 prospect in the Yankees' system (which would have included Hughes, Kennedy, and Chamberlain among others) and a potential future #2 starter to a nobody who sucks and isn't worth the letters on the back of his jersey. So what happened that one year that took him from a very good prospect in a great system to a nobody? A horrible year and a mild shoulder strain, of course. Yeah, there's no way Kenny saw anything in this kid... The mild strain probably had a significant impact on his down-season. A year ago people were talking about him being a middle of the rotation starter and now some insiders still believe him to be a potential back of the rotation guy. So yes, I'd trade a guy that couldn't hit .200 for most of the season to get a potential back of the rotation starter that would be cheap for numerous years. I also laugh at how people rip on the other minor leaguer that was traded for and than slurp all over about how great Texeria is. I like Tex, dont' think he should have been included in the trade but the guy the Sox got is closer to the majors and has a skill-set that could help him eventually develop into a set-up type guy. Will he, I don't know, but lets cut the bulls*** (not you Kenny the other poster) when you act like you know more than the rest of the world and that these guys are non-existent prospects and aren't worthy of being major leaguers. f***, if you think the Yanks didn't have some sort of interest in Marquez they wouldn't have sent him to the Fall League where he could get additional innings.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (Raf @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 11:15 AM) Wow. The analysis is spot on. The Sox DID sell shockingly low on Swisher, AND gave up the best pitcher in the deal on top of everything. The chances of Swisher rebounding are much better than any of these former Yankee scrubs ever amounting to anything. There's a reason why South Side Sox is regularly linked to by other, respected publications. It's a great site with extensive analysis and scouting predictions, which is more than I can say about Sox Talk. I'm sure I will be kicked off now, so I will leave you all to bicker amongst yourselves. I'm not about to debate the merits of Soxtalk or Southside Sox and I will solely tell you that selling low is something you do for a guy that has proven himself to be a fully productive major league ball player. Nick Swisher showed absolutely nothing last year. Does he have baseball tools, sure, was his value at an all time low, sure, but there isn't a f***ing team in baseball that was about to give up A type prospects for someone that was as god awful as Swisher was last year.

White Sox Sign RHP Kelvin Jimenez
Don't know enough about this guy to comment, but probably just one of those arms like Carassco that you can have and potentially look upon if members of your current bullpen are injured and your in a pinch.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 04:52 AM) http://www.southsidesox.com/2008/11/14/661...ockingly-low-on http://www.southsidesox.com/2008/11/13/660...-trade-transcri Gotta love those smart-a** White Sox experts who always think they know more than KW about putting a baseball team together. You would have thought we were coming off another 72-90 season with this guy's sarcastic attitude. By the way, I'm sure he has probably been there about 90% of the time to admit when he was wrong as KW's deals have usually turned out for the best, especially when there are "sleeper" players involved that are undervalued/under the radar/struggling/injured. Those were two utterly horrendous articles. The logic isn't even there. Clearly Swisher was the best player in the deal, but there are a lot of other things to evaluate when making a trade and it is laughable how people continue to ignore the job Kenny and his scouts have done when it comes to trading for former top prospects (Marquez wasn't a true top prospect, but he's definitely a prospect).

Mets & White Sox Have Been Talking...
Something might change. If Krod goes back to the Angels things get a lot more dicey. I would be all about a package centered around Fernando Martinez. He's the exact type of prospect I'd love to have in the system. Could you imagine and outfield with Danks/Martinez/Quentin in the future (assuming they all play at close to there potential). That would be a very good all around outfield (potentially speaking).

Mets & White Sox Have Been Talking...
QUOTE (beck72 @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) If this is even remotely possible, the sox will stick with Getz/ Nix heading into 2009 and upgrade in the OF/ 3b. This might be the case, but I think Kenny has a plan in mind and I do believe it is going to involve a young CF'er and potentially 2nd baseman (But if Beck is ready by than he could slide in at a plethora of infield positions).

Jason Varitek?
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) Varitek is a switch hitter who hit .284/.378/.484/.863 in 111 PA against lefties last season and .284/.362/.468/.830 for his career. If his name wasn't Jason Varitek and not represented by Boras then it would make perfect sense, he'd be the ideal backup catcher to AJ. I didn't realize he was a switch hitter. I agree with you on every sentiment. Too bad he's a Boras guy and I guarantee someone will give him a starting job. For god sakes, look at how Jason Kendall continues to get opportunity after opportunity.

Williams Shopping Jermaine
I understand going after Dunn if you lose a lot of sluggers, but last I checked Ken Williams wants to diversify the team and try to pick up a few more complete baseball players and Adam Dunn is the epitome of a one dimensional ball-player. He'd be a great fit on certain teams but in the current mold of the White Sox I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole. Would I take him over Jim Thome, absolutely (due primarily to age) but the Sox need to get some other type of players and I'd much rather have Abreu for 2-3 years at 12M than Dunn for 5 years at 12-15 M (I have no idea what he's asking for). If the Sox move Thome/Konerko/Dye (all 3) than I'd be all about getting Dunn in as well as some other run producers. But Dunn should hit nowhere but the 5 spot in a lineup.
