Brewers Managerial Vacancy
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 08:47 AM) How about not rehashing old mangers and going a route with someone who hasnt tried and failed in the majors? Personally, I would hire Fisk or Ventura. Technically Brenly won a world series so I don't think you can call him a guy that has failed. Sure he's been fired but so has Joe Torre.

Is this going to be the final one? Oh wait, don't tell me. I don't want to know when I go in and watch this. One of the all time greatest sets of horror movies.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) Prison Break, although I watch every week religiously, is getting...well bad. Too many convoluted plotlines and the show seems like it just keeps getting more crazy. Sadly, I will not be able not to watch (weird negative construction there), but I am really want to just turn it off sometimes. But Mondays are perfect for me thought, HIMYM at 7:30 then PB. Prison Break had me lost for a bit but now I'm digging it big time.

Texas Tech student wins free rent and...kicking job?
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) Yeah, I read that over at deadspin. I think I've heard about colleges having open tryouts before because their kicking game sucks so bad. f*** me...why couldn't this of happened at some college in California. My ass would have been there pronto. I've hit a 45 yarder before and can consistently pop them in from 35. 40 is typically my peak though. The 45 yarder I hit went off the crossbar and in.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 11:01 PM) Would you rather give Garland $7.5 mill a year over 3 years or try your luck with a combination of Garcia, Richard, Egbert, Poreda, YourMother, etc, while paying less than $5 mill and being locked into no long-term committment? I'd take Garland.

QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 08:56 AM) Scalise. Dunn, you should get as Shipps and wear his cool glasses. Oh wait, you didn't want his cool glasses and left them at Scalises place. Ungrateful Aussies.

Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) I think they're a good team, I just think the loss of Brady makes the AFC East and quite frankly the AFC in general that much weaker. As far as I'm concerned, the AFC is wide the f*** open right now and there are only about 3-4 teams you can truly count out right now, those being Oakland, KC, and Cinci as the guarantees and probably Miami too though any team with Parcells in the organization has a chance. There are any number of teams that, if they get hot or get cold, could ride it to a playoff spot or golf reservation. Correction, the loss of Brady and the piss poor performance of the Colts and Chargers. Those were by far and away the best 3 or at least most talented three teams in the AFC the past couple teams and right now I'd say they are all mediocre at best. Neither conference is strong and there is no way in hell the Titans are going to win the superbowl.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 10:17 AM) You know what's really funny? I was the one who started the question about this. I'm married. And I meant it the opposite of the way all the single guys here think I meant it. What I was saying was, if santo is telling his girlfriend that "she thinks she is religious", and giving her the "I told you so" line... I'm surprised she is still with him. This has been a very interesting, unintentend experiment in the difference between married and single men. Oh and I was taking the whole angle of knowing that your significant other wants to see something and that you oblige despite not potentially having the same interests and than walk out and drag the other out as well. There is a time and a place to suck it up. My girlfriend may not be the biggest baseball fan in the world, but if we go to a game she's not going to get up and leave in the middle of a no-hitter and tell me I have to leave too. Just like If I'm going to an exhibit relating to her field that has zero interest to me I'm not going to go there for 5 minutes and tell her I'm bored and lets go home.

This has been a very interesting, unintentend experiment in the difference between married and single men. It should probably be pointed out that I'm in a serious relationship and if my girlfriend was that way she wouldn't be my girlfriend. She'd say the same thing about me as well. And its not like we are the same people, we have some similar interests and some completely opposite interests but end up completing each other well.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) Ya think? It's probably reserved to be on BTN, hence why ABC is stuck showing the OU/ISU game. Although I can tell you the ISU game will not be televised out in SoCal.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 11:41 PM) Does Garza remind anyone of Freddy Garcia. He even looks like a younger version of him. Absolutely, even his stuff is similar to an in his prime Garcia and they have very similar deliveries and facial features. I was actually thinking that to myself while I watched him pitch yesterday.

Awesome...Price should be there closer for the remainder of the playoffs. He has ridiculous stuff and its odd to say how the Rays are only going to be better next year (Garza/Price/Upton (healthy)/Longoria). Now win the series TB...win the series!!

Kelly Pavlik falls to Bernard Hopkins
Benard can be so effective late in his career because he's one of the best fundemental boxers of all time. His fights tend to be boring but to his credit he always seems to win.

Orton is really developing into a franchise QB. I'm really really liking him. I've ripped him more than most on this site but its great to see him kick so much butt and all while he has pretty limited weapons.

State of our starting pitchers
QUOTE (beck72 @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 05:49 AM) Vazquez has a ton of value. Teams know they can get 30 starts, 200 + innings and K's, and a 4.25 ERA in the AL from him. While he's not a big game pitcher, he can help a team get the playoffs with his ability to eat innings and keep a team in the game. If Javy could net the sox a SP who could be in the 2009 rotation plus another solid contributor in the bullpen or a young position player, I could see him being moved. But it would have to be a good return. Agreed, you'd have to be getting an A type of prospect plus at least a B prospect as well (if not two B prospects) in return for Javy. That is if you were dealing him for a prospect. Ideally, one of those prospects would be a CF prospect with speed and one to two pitching prospects.

CC Sabathia
I'd be more willing to give him a big contract if he didn't get completely used and abused down the stretch in Milwaulkee. CC is a legit ace though and I'd love having him on the Sox.

State of our starting pitchers
I think the Sox will use Richard in the pen, with the plan of stretching him out and using him as the 5th if anyone struggles or gets injured. Contreras will not be counted upon for anything and the club will likely look to trade for another young arm (potentially in a Javy deal). However, Kenny can't panic and move Javy just for the sake of moving him. He still has value and if you dont' get a pretty good offer, you don't trade him.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 06:50 PM) Also, impressive win for Ohio State. Michigan State is STILL a joke in big games, and Ohio State is still going to lose to Penn State next week in Columbus, but the Buckeyes deserve credit for their performance today. All comments aside though, OSU is a different team with Pryor. THe problem is USC should win out so OSU will never have a shot at the National Championship game (since I can't see one of OU/Texas/Bama not being in the national championship game).
