  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 06:44 PM) I'll still never believe that I went to the only game they lost in the playoffs. In that case, I'm glad your in game threads and not at the games I kept s***ting my pants during every game scared that somehow they'd blow it. When they clinched to go to the series I was tearing. I'm man enough to admit such too. All of the season ticket holder's around me were classy though (I know them all since I was still in college and was at a s***load of Angel games that year). Man what an awesome season that was. This seasons been pretty cool too. Mainly because I never in my wildest dreams expected the Sox to be in this thing. I still have doubts, but if they can somehow get there arms fresh for the post-season they got a shot. I like there 4 starters and if rested the pen is do-able (Thorty/Jenks/Dotel/Liney/Mac).
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxmanager @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) exactly. fortunately i was able to get tix and go to all 3 AL championship games in anaheim. it sure was a blast. did you see me on tv? god knows you never go to any games as you are mr. pessimism i pissed my pants because i love my team that sucks and i hate all the players that is why i post 1 million posts so hopefully somebody will like me. dont worry i will buy you a coke kid. And those three games were amazing!!!! How's everything been?
  3. QUOTE (tommy @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 06:05 PM) It's between us and Philly? After he wins a ring with the Sox, he'll go in as a Sox!!!
  4. QUOTE (tommy @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) I was going to ask the same question earlier. Nope.
  5. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 05:51 PM) It'd be neat just to see him slash up there. Its the most bat speed I've seen out of Swisher all season.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) And MacDougal...and Sisco...and Scott Sullivan! Sullivan came from Cinncy.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 08:58 AM) Good question. Iowa looks to have a pretty solid plan on defense, special teams, and in the run game. But if you've got two quarterbacks, you've got none and their wide receivers aren't very good. I think they are in good shape to make a bowl this year though. They have a shot. Stanza looked impressive till the Cyclone game and is definitely the future. Very good athlete. The WR's at Iowa aren't near as bad as people believe but overall they have a better than expected squad and I think this team is much more like a typical Ferentz team (unlike the past couple seasons). Still they haven't played ANYONE (sorry, ISU isn't really anyone) and I expect them to struggle to score and that will be there achilles heel.
  8. Kap...for pure gaming purposes, Xbox > PS3. I don't give a crap what the fanboys want to say about how the PS3 has more capabilities, the Xbox has better games, a better online mode, better controllers, etc. The PS3 on the other hand is the better system if you aren't going to play many games. That is because it can double as a total entertainment system (since it has blu-ray).
  9. I commend OC and Ozzie for stating the facts. Why sugar coat it. Any fan can see that this team is on life support right now (not its playoff hopes, rather from a health perspective). The guys are absolutely exhausted and I'm hoping somehow they hit a quick hot streak where Minny is struggling and the Sox are able to somehow ease/rest the last couple days of the season.

    i am drunk

QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 12:38 AM) Yeah, Leinenkugel's doesn't make bad tasting beer. Berry weiss is epic. I had some mix drink called a top hat tonight. It's 6 different liquors, a Budweiser and some wine. It's massive. Let's just say wow. I called my girlfriend and she kept saying I was really drunk. That's pretty accurate. Geez. You...Girlfriend.....wow, you must have been s***faced to imagine that
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:43 PM) For the people that say it's up to the players to perform on the field, and management deserves no blame, this weekend is a situation where Ozzie should face a lot of scrutiny if Buehrle and Floyd suck. I pray for my sanity and this board's sanity that we don't have to discuss the effects of 3 days rest too much. I just hope a year from now we aren't looking at Floyd/Danks on the DL cause right now they are two of the guys that have me most excited about where the franchise is headed.
  12. I'm personally not a fan of this because its suicide. Even if the Sox pitchers can do good on short rest over a couple stints we are just asking to have them all burned out come the post-season and at that point we'll be one and done anyway. Hope you can get quality 5th starts from Richard and stick on normal rest (thus ensuring that you put those 4 starters that are good in a good position to succeed both in the regular season and the post-season). Just my 2 cents though, especially when you factor in Floyd/Danks being young.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) This article makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. I never thought I'd say this, but good for Ozzie and OC. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,7990801.story I know one thing, despite 99% of this forum, I love OC. He's been a tremendous addition to the team and I'd have no problem keeping him around as long as the Sox were able to find a legit guy to leadoff. I'd totally give OC a 3 year deal worth good money and use Swisher and whomever to acquire a legit CFer. Let BA be the 4th outfielder (getting more and more starts as the Sox will have to rest Dye/Thome/Konerko more). Go with a Casey Blake type at 3B. Hold onto your actual prospects and try to prepare and build up some more young arms and young position players to step in for Dye/Thome/Konerko in the future.
  14. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) along with MacDougall,Boone and Wasserman If the Sox go anywhere in the post-season, it will be with the help of MacDougall. Linebrink isn't healthy and Dotel is exhausted. The only solid arms in the pen are Jenks/Thornton and after that MacDougall is the best option.
  15. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 05:07 PM) What I would like to see tomorrow morning: "Chicago White Sox - Placed LHP Horacio Ramirez on waivers for purpose of granting his release." Maybe we could even doop the Twins into picking him up. Ramirez is absolute garbage.
  16. Just started using Chrome today and I freaking love it. So clean.
  17. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 12:12 PM) After Enron (now that clearly was a matter of greed, corruption, and criminality) the accounting rules were changed to require companies to rate their assets each quarter as if they were selling their companies. Say an investment bank owned a security that consisted of a package of $100,000 mortgages. Let's assume that there were a thousand of these. If all were paying, the security would be worth $100,000,000. If 20 percent of the mortgages went bad, under the old accounting rules, the security would be worth $80,000,000. But if, at the end of a quarter when a panic has gripped Wall Street about mortgage backed securities, the investment bank, because it can't find an immediate buyer for the security, is forced to rate that $80,000,000 instrument at zero. Bam. A downward spiral spins even faster and banks and insurance companies start collapsing. Will all due respect to John McCain this disaster is not the result of greed or poor oversight. It's in large measure the result of an overreaction to Enron. The contrary argument is that if a company has no intent to dump said security in the down-ridden market why should they mark down? Of course if thats the case than you have inflated balance sheets and are more likely to be able to get additional financing. So that argument is a double-edged sword. The reality is FAS 157 is very good but people need to realize there is a major potential for fluctuation related to the valuation done.
  18. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 11:25 AM) Well Fasb157 was a good response to the Enron crisis. Let's mark to market. Hey, what's the market? Don't know. S&P: You're downgraded two notches, you need to raise 50 billion in capital. There is such a gray area surrounding FAS 157 valuations. Everyone keeps writing down these investments but as long as there is some logical evidence behind the value you tend to go with it and you typically use the major players as the trend setters (and there valuation flows through to everyone else). There is just so much "gray" area there.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 04:12 AM) $300,000, but I don't believe he was in the Appy League. Plus, when he first had signed he probably would have had some consideration. Of course he wasn't even hitting 86 MPH which makes it pretty tough to make any sort of prospect list as a pitcher.
  20. QUOTE (Felix @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 06:32 PM) By "a portion" do you mean May and September? Other than those two months, he's been pretty solid. Yep and he was absolutely terrible those months. He was Swisher-esque and I b****ed and moaned big time for 2 months. Swisher has had like one hot streak the entire season, otherwise he has been one of the worse everyday players in the American League.
  21. QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) I didnt realize that balding effects alot of the guys in their 20's until I actually hit my 20's.I always thought it was something that happens when you turn into an old man.But a large % of the guys I know that are my age are either completely bald already or are in the process of it. I have my hair thankfully but Iam worried that I will lose my hair at a young age considering its genetic and most times skips generations. My father has all his hair at 48 but both my grandfathers lost their hair at a young age. How do you look at your best when your bald?Do you shave all your hair off?Which could be a good look for some people.Or do you just go with it?And Iam going to assume that no one on here will admit to wearing a rug on their head. Geeze, I wonder who one of those friends is.....what an ass u are, LOL.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxmanager @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 05:21 PM) 66-2 record after leading after 7 are the yanks. Soon to be 66 and f***ing 3. Griff is gonna end up hitting a HR.
  23. Son of a b****....Joba is so easy to run off of. Ozzie was pissed that Wise didn't steal.
