  1. I don't know, its pretty hard to knock the trade when you look at the resurgence of Paulie/Swisher which occurred after the deal happened. Plus, Griffey isn't that much of a downgrade over Swisher, imo. Ideally you wouldn't have either of them in CF, although I'll readily admit that Swisher was much better defensively than I had ever expected. That said, I'd still trade him if the right offer came around in the off-season.
  2. We'll see him eased into things but if the Sox are going to go anywhere in the playoffs, they will need to have Linebrink healthy (and possibly Mac productive).
  3. MacDougall has really turned things around as of late and he looked absolutely phenomenal last night. He could turn into a major factor with the Sox bullpen getting crap figured out and inevitably with the Sox making the playoffs. I say that because a MacDougall that pitches close to his potential immediately becomes the Sox 2nd or 3rd best reliever (Thorty/Jenks).
  4. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 11:40 AM) No, I'm not. But the ad is stupid. It's the cubification of the hawks, and I don't like it one bit. I don't want the UC to be the place to be and be seen. If this Tony Amonte thing is anything more than a puck drop and some highlights, it's an absolute joke. Come to Hull, Mikita, Espo, Pilote and... Tony Amonte night? Enough already. The Sox and Hawks have done joint marketing too. As far as I'm concerned its great marketing. They are playing a game in Wrigley and are marketing a Wrigley field custom towards hockey. Amonte being recognized isn't necessarily a bad idea too, considering he's the face any younger fan of the franchise would recognize (over Hull/Mikita/Espo/etc).
  5. If there was ever a game that should be rules as a no-hitter, it would be the Cubs game in which Kerry Wood gave up one hit and struck out 20 (that was a definite error by Kevin Orie, imo). I still believe that was the single greatest pitching performance of all time (not in the terms of stepping up in a big game, rather just in the terms of an utterly dominant performance).
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) For Getz, it hasn't yet been 10 days since he was sent down. Does that matter when it comes to September call-ups?
  7. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) He may get called up for work in the next month, but unless he gets called up in the next 8 hours he wont be making the playoff roster. He does have ML experience, but he hasnt been very consistent even though he has shown some wicked stuff. Actually, the Sox have a few guys on the DL so if anyone called up as of September 1 or later impresses the Sox have the flexibility to get them added to the post-season roster.
  8. Sox are going to prevent the sweep with a nice win today.
  9. Getz/Owens/Wise/MacDougall/Wasserman/Logan/Fields/Poreda Those guys are all possibilities and I wouldnt' be shocked to see all of them up. Donny Lucy is out for the season.
  10. That pick was horrid, given the fact that the Bears had Alex Brown, Ogunleye, and Anderson. There was absolutley no need to grab a De in the 2nd round. Especially not one that wasn't even expected to go off the boards in RD2. That was easily Angelo's worse pick because there was so much other need positions on the board at such time.

Dare I say it, Boston is flat out beatable. The two teams in the AL that scare me (other than the Twins and I think the Sox can beat the Twins if they did play each other in the playoffs) is the Angels and Rays.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 09:26 PM) Since there's no longer a catch all thread I'll just put this here. Carlos Quentin's line for the month of August is .338/.480/.714/1.194 So what do you think? Should I just start making the banner now? Probably. Alexei had one hell of a month too but it doesn't even compare to Quentin.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) It happens...we've been playing close games for a long time now. I was thinking yesterday that we could have easily been on a 12 game win streak. Agreed. A healthy pen and this club is up relatively comfortably. A healthy Count and even more comfortably. But all teams have to go through injuries and I can accept a game like today. Every once in a while your gonna get the s*** knocked out of ya. That Ray series hurt because they should have swept.
  14. I should piont out that it wasn't necessarily a 4 year ban. Bans aren't sentences, they are indenfinite. They could last forever or they could end up lasting a year (if a poster reaches out to us after a while and states his case, the mods/admins will discuss and consider giving said member another chance). We don't lie when we say that we as mods/admins try our very best to be almost unnoticed (we try to do everything behind the scenes to make things run as smooth as possible and try as much as possible to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to get there opinion heard).
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) Well, I know I'm not the only one who believes in this. Quality posters on this site have made mention of his high inning totals (compared to last year), as well as his inability to keep the ball down in his past few games. I think a collapse from Floyd/Danks is inevitable as they will likely tire (maybe not a collapse, but some sort of hiccup). However, its hard not to say that Danks hasn't still battled and done a solid job (sans tonight). That said I've wanted to see the Sox be able to get both Danks/Floyd extra days of rest down the stretch because if they push these guys too hard there is a lot of statistical evidence which would indicate we'll see each of these regress (or get hurt) in the next year.
  16. We've long said if people don't try to circumavigate the process we are very willing to give people 2nd and 3rd chances. Welcome back Duke.

QUOTE (Molto @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) You pay? I've been an Admin for years and haven't gotten a dime, and he's a lowly moderator and gets money? The guy just learned how to break paragraphs. I think I should split all the prior year bills with mods/admins.

QUOTE (Molto @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) I remember you making fun of the time I spent I working on it ... and now you're a freaking moderator. You aught to up his rent now that he's making the big bucks.

    Soxtalk: A History

QUOTE (Molto @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 07:48 PM) That's pretty much it. The board was originally under SoxNet.net, but thought it was better to have a seperate name for the board to make it easier on the users and to give it a seperate identity. Good thing that happened, because SoxTalk.com would have went under with SoxNet. It was devastating having to give up SoxNet, but very glad SoxTalk was kept and it is what it is today. The early going was pretty rough, but as you said, we ran into some luck with the demise of the ESPN board (I was a regular there), WSI banning-ways, and there was actually another White Sox site/board that had to close and brought some posters to SoxTalk.com, although I can't remember the name off-hand. It was Soxfantatic.com or something like that. The site was ran by Spataro who is now a poster here (people may remember him as the person who made the posts that led to this site being published in Sports Illustrated). I will always remember the day where we got the call that they were going to file a suit against us to close SoxNet. Pretty miserable ass day. Although I think we both learned a valuable lesson about business on that day.

    Soxtalk: A History

QUOTE (Steff @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 07:43 PM) For whatever reason, the #'s don't run that way. There were a lot more members than 7 when you joined. Yep it runs inverse starting at my number. So essentially Member #1 is #127 and Member #127 is #1. However, once you get to #128, that is actually #128 so to speak. It happened when the site switched from XMB Board to Invision (and we had to convert the mysql table to invision which was a very difficult process for my programming ignorant self).

    Soxtalk: A History

SoxNet.net was initially founded in 2000/2001. The site was a news site which was founded by Mario Scalise (Molto) and Jason Gage (myself). Molto was the actual founder though and I somehow stumbled upon to his post that he was going to start a White Sox website which he made on WSI (where I would read on occassion). SoxNet had a message board which I was in charge of (Mario was in charge of the news portion) and that board was part of a sports-network which had made up with numerous sites which had been affiliated with Rivals (sportsinfinity network). For about a full season we used that network as our forums and than after the network continued to have server issues we felt it was necessary to make the next step and establish Soxtalk.com (the baseball fans forums had a core group of about 20 posters and would get about 100 posts a day, which we thought was insanely busy). Soxtalk was my first venture into the server end side of things (from installing/building the forum to using PHP to make some customizations). Early in the Soxtalk days, WSI ran into an issue where they banned numerous members. We marketed and reached out to these members (which included being the official sponsor of SoxNRoll Radio) and eventually established a nice core-set of posters. Shortly after we gained a chunk of posters from WSI, we than lucked out into ESPN's forums being poorly moderated (we would consistently market our site by posting the articles on various forums, including ESPN/MLB) and picked up the likes of SS2k and slowly must have obtained about 90% of the consistent White Sox posters on such forums. At that point Soxtalk had established itself. It would consistently get 1000 posts a day and was filled with action. We've grown many many more times since but the one thing thats never changed is our dedication to the members of this site and the Chicago White Sox. In the middle of all this there was a time where this site was integrated with the "Insiders" network. This was something we thought was going to be a brilliant move which would give us the ability to provide the members with better content (giving us full blown credentials and access to getty images). However, there were differences of opinion between us and the people at the Insiders and legal actions had been threatened. There was a couple week span where we actually and we thought we might lose the site, however, we lucked out (although we were forced to close SoxNet.net at this time). FutureSox & Soxtalk managed to survive and now we've continued to work on growing the network.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) The logic IMO is pretty simple. The Chargers really have a 1-2 year window to try to win a super bowl before guys like Merriman and Rivers and LT either hit free agency or have some major contract demands after those big drafts they had. After that, their window is probably going to shut because of salary issues. If you are close to getting a fat payraise why would you ever risk your entire career. I could see the logic for the Chargers letting him play, but no the logic for Merriman doing this.
  23. Soxtalk.com has made some adjustments to the admin/mod team in order to add some newer members to the mod ranks. We believe fresh posters can lead to innovative ideas which will help the site continue to remain successful. In addition, you might see a mod or two who used to patrol a forum no longer listed as a mod. This is because these individuals have had changes to their personal lives which prevent them from being able to moderate. We are very appreciative of those mods efforts over the years as they are a large reason the site is what it is today and we look forward to the contributions the new mods will bring to the site. So please welcome the following new mods: Shipps – SLAP & Sports Bar Scenario – Pale Hose Talk & FutureSox IamShack – Pale Hose Talk LostFan – Filabuster & Sportsbar All of these posters have shown an ability to stir up discussion in a polite manner and we believe they will be excellent additions to the site.
  24. If your gonna stay off strip, stay at the Hilton. Sports book is awesome and they give free drinks (unlike most modern sports books where you have to get drink coupons). You have a monorail stop that takes you everwhere on the strip. Plus, you are within walking distance of the Venetian and Wynn which have two of the best clubs (Tao & Tryste). In terms of other good clubs, the playboy club at the Palms is pretty badass (I think thats what its called at least) and Pure (Caesars) is always packed.
