OMG, I would hang up the phone instantly if they were looking for FIelds/Poreda/Martinez/Silverio. There ain't a f***ing change in hell I'm giving up that for a #5 starter who isn't exactly cheap. I could see giving up Fields in a package that netted back Beltre as well (and they'd want more than just Fields) but I doubt Beltre floats threw waivers. Plus that would be a significant amount of payroll the Sox would be bringing in. I actually have a hunch that Kenny leaked this name in order to help him fly under the radar and get the guy he prefers. That said, I'd call for the firing of Williams if he gives up a top prospect for Washburn. The only way I wouldn't is if the Sox dealt a top prospect and than used 10+ million they got in cash and spent it entirely on international free agents and paying draft picks above slot money next year.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 05:44 PM) Lucas Harrell is a stud: 7 inn, 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 BBs and 6 Ks. He still is young and in AA, so he is top 5 prospect in our organization IMO. Prior to his injury, Harrel had really thrusted himself amongst the top prospects in the organization and now that he's back he definitely reasserting the fact that he has major league talent/potential.

The next time I see Javy actually throw anything on the inside half of the plate will be about the first time all season. Watching him pitch is horrid. It makes it worse when you can see that his stuff is still there. Honestly, Coop aught to punch Javy in the face until he throws a game where practically everything is on the inside half. Heck, I'll compare Javy with Garland. Garland was good when he threw inside, when he didn't, he'd be bad. Javy is the same way. Obviously they are different pitchers but to be good they have to make the hitter uncomfortable. Javy would be great if he pitched inside.

I don't expect the Sox to eat all of the contract, which means we will see one to two solid prospects moved. That could include one or two of the AAA/AAAA pitchers the Sox currently have (ie, Whisler/Haeger/Broadway/Egbert). I'd think the Sox wouldn't go with Broadway and instead give the others up simply because Broadway is a former first rounder. I don't anticipate Shelby/Poreda or any of the Sox higher upside prospects going (and its sad that I had to reach to go with Shelby as one of the "higher upside" prospects). The bright side is it looks as if the Sox are getting some decent talent in the lower levels. The Yanks offered basically nothing with the willingness of taking on the entire contract and had no luck getting him so that leads me to believe the M's are going to ask for at least something in return. Oh and Washburn was absolutely dominant in June and July. And I mean dominant (at least ERA wise). His August stats are skewed by one bad start (the other was what I'd consider average).

JOb well done.

I hope he made a bet about shaving his eyebrows if he won 20 games (and that at the end of the season we see him shave those). Gavin is my favorite Sox starter to watch pitch (aside from the obvious one in Buehrle, since Mark works so damn quick). Danks is another fav of mine. I hate watching Javy/Jose pitch.

Heck ya...sweet win. KC-Minny in extra's so maybe the Sox can grab 1st back by the end of the day.

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/baseballdiges.../08/09/BDD-Live This is a podcast with a guy interviewing Jim Callis. Callis is on starting at the 20 minute mark and they talk about Alonso/Beckham at the 30 minute mark or so.
-
There could be some issues with Beckham: Yonder Alonso is asking 6-7M. Slot for Alonso is 2.3M. This is probably why Beckham is in a holding pattern. Everyone anticipated both Alonso and Beckham would sign for slot money. So Alonso's demands have put a significant effect on what the Sox have done. However, Beckham and Alonso both have to realize that they will lose all there leverage if they go back into the draft. The main question is whether these guys get major league contracts or just over slot bonuses.

Broadway has major league stuff. His command has been horrid for most of the season though. Getz is a guy I like a lot though and I think he'll be a valuable bench player and an eventual starter. I don't know how Carassco has been doing it but I hope he can keep it up and do a good job in the rotation. Still, the Sox need someone and if they could get Washburn without giving up much I wouldn't be opposed (you could always go back and trade him again in the off-season).

I don't know, but depending on the area your in you could get lucky and have Verizon Fios. That s*** is supposed to be absolutely amazing. I also think Verizon may be the company that does DirectTV bundles (ATT is with Dish).

2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Thread
Chisoxfn replied to ChiSox_Sonix's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
USA's basketball team kicked ass. Love having this olympic soccer and basketball HD channels on my cable outlet (they are broadcasting every one of the games in HD). Brazil is kicking the piss out of New Zealand in soccer (not really a shocker). -
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 08:04 PM) Not a chance in hell Seriously. If we were talking about having Garcia/Buehrle/Vaz/Contreras I'd say yes. But you are talking about two of the four guys being Danks/Floyd who still don't have fully developed arms (in the sense of being able to handle a heavy heavy workload). I wonder if Horacio can start anymore. I always liked him a lot as a starter in Atlanta but he kept getting hurt. Of course I have no idea if his stuff is as good as it once was.

RIP to Bernie. Seemed like a hell of a guy and was an entertaining comedian.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) According to the Dish Network website, the package includes Comcast Chicago which they claim carriers the Bulls and Sox subject to blackout. The black out rules mean that all sporting events will be blacked out unless you live in the Chicago area. Since you are in Texas you will be able to watch Comcast Chicago up until game time and at that point it will be blacked out. Dish Network is the worse option for anyone out of the Chicago area that wants to follow the Sox via Extra Innings (now if you prefer to go the MLB.TV route than obviously Dish Network is an option). The best option is DirectTV since you'd practically get every Sox game in HD. But I still believe a really good cable company is cheaper than DirectTV (due to the hefty equipment cost involving DirectTV (Well if you plan on getting HD/DVR). I'm thrilled with my Cox Cable. They added an exclusive HD Soccer & Basketball channel specifically for the olympics to go with like 4 other channels that are in HD carrying the olympics. Plus I got an MLBHD channel which gets me maybe 2-3 Sox games a month in HD (not a ton, but better than nothing, plus I get usually 2 out of market HD games a night).

I had really high expectations for Pineapple Express and left dissapointed. It had its moments where I was in stitches but there was also extended moments where I wasn't entertained. Overall I'd give it a C. I think its the type of movie that could eventually grow on me though as it did have a lot of great quotes and moments (just thought overall, there was too much open space which was "blah" to put it up there with SuperBad and Sarah Marshall which were both stellar and 40 Year Old Virgin which was just below those two).

This sucks and I was one of Jose's biggest critics. He was looking pretty sharp in the first couple innings (good velocity and nice command for someone who missed a couple starts). The Sox are definitely going to miss a 'healthy' Contreras in the rotation (note I say 'healthy'). I'm not sure where they go now but it could very well be Carassco. Ozzie seems to really like him, but another option would be Egbert. I can't imagine they'd call up Poreda to start, but I could be wrong. I say that because I don't think he's ready to contribute as a starter, however, I think he could make an impact out of the pen.
-
Mark was fantastic and the pen held down when it finally needed to. Still, I'm going to be really happy when this rotation can start putting up consistent 7 inning outings (Buerhle did his job tonight) so that the pen can get rested. Right now its pitching on E. Linebrink coming back should be a big boost (hopefully he'll be healthy and effective when he comes back).

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) I know for a fact that the White Sox organization doesn't think Egbert's stuff is good enough for the majors. It's too bad, as I'd love to have a sinker baller as the long man. I wouldn't be surprised if he's dealt in the offseason as a throw-in. From what I've heard, its the complete opposite. The stuff I"ve heard is that the higher ups in the org like him a lot (well at least the GM does).
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 08:48 AM) Not a soft tosser? I had thought he was. What is his velocity like? He was advertised as a raw power arm when drafted. I saw him pitch a couple times down in A ball and that power arm was complete BS. That said he still had a decent enough fastball. Problem was he didn't have any other pitcher. And by decent I mean he could hit 90+ (he is not a 95MPH+ FB guy).
-
His velocity can get as high as about 94. He's got great sink and a nice looking changeup. Can't comment much on his slider.

Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread
Chisoxfn replied to ChiSox_Sonix's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Offensive line did a fantastic job. QB's were meh. Both missed some open plays, neither made any major mistakes. Rex got f***ed by some bad drops. Hanie was impressive for a rookie and its why I'm content with him being a 3rd stringer who could potentially surprise everyone and develop into a starting QB candidate a couple years down the road. Can't say either Rex or Kyle distanced themselves in my book. Kyle made some solid reads where Rex did similar. The one thing I did like was I saw Rex step up in the pocket more to avoid the rush (and Rex was getting a lot more guys in his area than Orton did). Again, I'd rate the performances even. -
I'm restoring order.
-
Nevermind, I realize he's made 2 poor starts this month, so both of your guys info was correct.
-
Am I an idiot. I see one that says last 10 starts, ERA in the mid 4's than another showing his ERS in June and July (10 starts) and neither of them are even above 5. Are we sure 4.61 isn't his season long ERA?
