  1. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 06:55 PM) Swisher has been a disapointment this year. Swisher has been the biggest dissapointment of any player on the Sox. Konerko has been a bit worse, but he struggled through injuries for most of the season and those injuries pretty much burried his morale.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 06:47 PM) In Danks first 18 starts, he had allowed 4 runs or more only twice. Now, he has a 4 game streak going of allowing at least 4 runs. His next start is against the Tigers. IIRC, one of those 4 starts was the game against the Rangers where he went deep and gave up a run or two in like the 8th inning. So realistically he's had about 2 bad starts, one mediocre start and one above average start. You guys expect him to be perfect all season? Hell, I think anyone should have realized he'd trend downward as he tired out. Bottom line is he's been great this season and while he will fade a bit I still expect him to throw a lot of quality starts down the stretch. f*** YES...JERMAINE DYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) I never thought he was legit either, although I still like the guy and hope he can learn how to not strike out every other at-bat. ... Game's not over yet. Now Gavin Floyd on the other hand. I was one of the few that was raving about him back when he was down in the minors. Not gloating though because he's still got a lot to prove, but thus far you really got to tip your cap and hand it to Gavin for doing a nice job all season long. Great way to start things of CQ. Time for the Sox to quit b****ing and being afraid and battle back. The Twins did it today, why can't the Sox come on back. LETS GO WHITE SOX!!!! Hell, I see Paulie coming up with a big pinch hit tonight. Quick someone, get me into the insane asylum.
  4. Hanrahan would have been a tremendous pickup. Again, I won't blame Kenny because I still think this team has the ability to get its s*** together. They aren't this bad of a defensive team, at least the infield isn't or shouldn't be. THe outfield, well f***, with Griffey it will be a bit ugly. The pen needs to get its s*** together as does the defense. Hopefully the offense can stay on its relative roll and help ease things. That said, we knew the pitching staff would slump and some point and now I think the key is hoping Griffey can provide a spark as will the return of Count (who apparently is looking very good now that he's healthy and that would be a major lift) and Linebrink (if he comes back healthy, this will be HUGE). On top of that Crede is apparently feeling very good and will be a significant upgrade over that over-rated prospect named Josh Fields (I can call him that since I've said that about him since day one practically). Hell, I think I was the only guy not raving about him last season.
  5. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 06:34 PM) I want to know if anyone reading this thread that believes we have any chance of winning this game? It's almost as if we don't know how to handle a lead in Minnesota. Well, this s*** better get resolved quick because we'll have one more series at The Dome in September, and if it means anything we can't give up leads like this. Its a one run game and momentum can cahnge quickly. Just ask the Twins who took the momentum this inning after the Sox had it. Now I should shut the f*** up cause as I type this the Twins hit a 3 run bomb.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) That play reminded me of opening day when he botched a similar grounder that led to a huge inning for the Indians. Are we complaining about the same OC that stole a base today and ripped two basehits? I realize he made an error but his defense is the last f***ing thing we should be worrying about. No, he isn't Juan Uribe defensively but a lot of you guys act as if he isn't a top 5 defensive shortstop.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) At this point in his career, Danks is a 6 inning pitcher. I don't get it. Prior to these past 3 starts or so (I guess 4 now) Danks was on a roll where he was doing nothing but cruise deep into games. He made one mistake today and really pitched better than the numbers indicated (ie the runs). Well I'll say two mistakes (aside from a couple of those elevated change-ups hit for doubles), that leadoff walk sucked balls too. I had absolutely no issue with John's start tonight and the Sox should be leading right now.
  8. This is f***ing horrid. I don't even know what to say. This reminds me of the Yanks series earlier this season where the Sox got there asses handed to them because they couldn't execute and close things out. They've blown 2 4 run leads in this series, played s***ty defense, and failed to get clutch hits. f***ing brilliant. I'm excited as f*** to see Griffey though and this is still a game. I got faith Sox are going to win tonight.
  9. He took a vacation afterward the season and my guess is we'll see him sign by August 10th. He will sign, but negotiations weren't supposed to really start until early August. Danks deal is pretty much done, just a matter of finalizing the deal (they are lagging the official signing as a why to not piss off MLB (since its going to be for over-slot money).
  10. Well technically playing left and right you are more likely to have to stop quickly (as you approach foul territory) where as in CF the only significant stops of action you'd have would be related to playing the balls at the wall. So I guess he could have a point there. However, you are going to run more in CF than the other positions or at least I believe you will.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:57 AM) Griffey was an all star, hit 30 HRs and posted a .868 OPS last year so the Sox should get some compensation for him. I said maybe because you don't know if the Sox will offer him arbitration. If he does get offered arbitration I can see him being on less than a type B FA and I wouldn't be shocked to see him as a Type A (I expect a strong finish to the season for Griff).
  12. And the Dodgers didn't give up Kemp correct?
  13. OMG....MAKE THE TRADE...MAKE IT. I would cry tears of joy for the next hour if the Sox got Manny. Where would he play, f*** if I know, but maybe you can force the BoSox to take Konerko's contract off our hands. Otherwise get ready to see CQ in CF, LOL (or you'd have to move Dye to 1B).
  14. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) 5 picks in the first and sandwhich rounds is not a bad place to be to restock (and that's where we sit right now). I'm going to instead go with the top 3 rounds (you don't know who signs and whether you'll get 1st round picks or 2nd round picks depending on the order of the Type A/Type B FA's). Sox own: 1st 2nd 3rd OC - 2 picks Crede - 1 pick Uribe - Potentially 1 pick Griffey - Potentially 1 to 2 picks (higher probability on 1 and even that is an if). This would give the Sox between 6 & 9 picks within the 1st three rounds depending on how things work out. This assumes at the very least Crede/OC going elsewhere.

  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) If Griffey is signed early, or the Sox reach an agreement with him to reject arbitration, that makes it possible to get the picks. I can't see Griffey accepting arbitration if the writing is on the walls that he won't be playing with the Sox. Its not as if we'd be talking about a player who wouldn't get an offer from another team. Someone will offer him at least a one year deal.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) I would like Hanrahan...not as hot on Lannan but sure, whatever dude. Hanrahan appears to have big upside, and I remember him as a Dodgers top prospect a few years back, so there's something there. Yep, tremendous live arm. If I recall he had some injuries and than kind of had a period where he fell off the radar in LA before regaining everything. Just a very good arm.
  18. I like Hanrahan. Good live arm with some upside. At what cost is the key question as I refuse to give up Poreda or Fields for a reliever unless we are talking about some uber special reliever. This guy is also going to be under the Sox control for a number of years (this is his 2nd season in the majors). Again, I would do all I could to insist on not giving up Fields/Poreda and instead offer up some of the AAAA starters the Sox have (offer up quantity of potential major league starters). Ie, Broadway and Whisler. I don't know how much value Broadway has now that he's completely fallen apart.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:08 AM) trade deadline 3 p.m. eastern? 4 Eastern
  20. I love Richard, but based on the stats why wouldn't you give him up to get this 23 year old lefty (again this is purely stat base as I can't give much of an assessment on Lannan). On a side-note, wouldn't you think the Nats would have interest in Brian Anderson (toolsy outfielder, could be a high upside acquisition). And I'm not implying Anderson as the main piece, rather one of the potential pieces.
