  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) 3 at the most, possibly 2. (if Crede isn't even offered Arb) They'll likely offer Crede arbitration. Fields isn't an option and the Sox wouldn't have a problem, imo, if Crede accepted a one year deal. I'd expect 3, possibly 4 (depending on what happens with Griffey).
  2. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) BA Title, ROY and MVP all on the same team. I would like that I'll be happy with the title...2008 World Series Champions!!!
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 12:52 PM) Longoria is a much better defensive player than Alexei dude. I'd agree with this. Alexei has played good defense at 2B but he has made his fair share of errors (and his fair share of web-gems). Plus in reality he's really played 1 position and has played minimally at CF/SS/3B. Longoria is probably the 2nd best defensive 3rd baseman in the AL (behind Beltre). Plus you have to factor in that Longoria has been a middle of the order bat and thus has far more pressure on him. I love Alexei but if Longoria is decent in September he should win the award, imo.
  4. QUOTE (FranktheTank35 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) No, you weren't valuable enough because you didn't raise the play of the rest of the players around you. MVP isn't just stats. It's intangibles too. I think this is a debate that just won't ever die. Technically speaking, Carlos Quentin didn't make the pitching staff throw the way they did or Alexei emerge, etc etc. However, I do believe the MVP is more than best offensive player. I think it goes to the guy that did the very most for there team and wins should be one of the factors.
  5. QUOTE (Cubano @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 11:10 AM) If Longoria keeps himself out of the lineup or does not comeback strong, the Cuban Missile can take ROY honors. CQ is competing against more MVP candidates and the Sox must finish in first place. Therefore, CQ for MVP is more in doubt. I actually think it will be tougher for Alexei. The Rays are the feel good story in baseball and Longoria has tremendous numbers. The big difference between Evan and Alexei is the fact that Evan has a much better OBP and is a better slugger. The only way I can see Ramirez picking it up is if Longoria reinjures himself or stinks coming back from the injury (unlikely, unless he's not really healthy). Quentin on the other hand is amongst the league leaders in almost every offensive category and has been on fire lately. If he keeps his production up and the SOx make the playoffs I would be shocked if he didn't win the MVP. So in short, season ends today, Quentin is the MVP, Longoria is the rookie of the year.
  6. Good stuff BB. I personally hope he goes on a ridiculous tear as do the White Sox...one that continues through October!!!

    i am drunk

Iowa has some of the cutest girls of any state I've ever been too. I hate giving Heads credit, but its true.
  8. I'm going to be making a bit of an expirement. I know there are a lot of people that enjoy the catch all and I also know from comments made over the past year or so that there are a lot of people that don't enjoy it so up until the end of the regular season I'm going to close the catch all and experiment to see what the majority prefer (catch all vs no catch all). Also, shortly we will be announcing some changes made to the mod team as we work on infusing some new moderators onto the site. The move should help get some fresh blood into the mod ranks and more importantly enable some of the mods who have had changes to there personal life which prevent them from being as active.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 11:02 PM) I am quite a large fan of Adrian Beltre. And by large, I do mean large. I'd love to get Beltre.
  10. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) Yeah I wanted to know the same thing, that was sad. IF you knew Jeff, you'd understand. Than again, Karma's a b****, I laugh at friend falling off bike breaking shoulder...a year and a half later, I do something similar (albeit with my knee where I end up getting bursitis from the fall) skating down a hill (my friend laughed at me...so now he has it heading his direction, LOL).

  12. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 06:49 AM) Iam looking forward to House the most of all,but what brand new shows out there have you guys seen that looks like they are worth checking out? Liar....I know ur excited for the Hills premier tonight.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 06:06 PM) Change that 97 to 93-94 and that's what Joakim Soria does currently. Soria and Gagne aren't at all on the same level. Not a knock on Soria, more a compliment to what Gagne did during that time (albeit, while enhanced)
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) since when did Grant Balfour become disgustingly good? The dude has bounced around the majors for quite a few years now and he's just been an absolute monster this year. He's always had pretty good stuff, but I didn't think it was ever this good, and those numbers remind me of LaTroy Hawkins. He was always highly touted (well for a relief prospect) and just had some struggles acclimating at the major league level. I'm not at all surprised by his successes. The main thing is that his command has improved a bit.
  15. I'd say between rookie & low A depending on the college team he played on (ie, conference/schedule), but High A is far more advanced than the typical college player could handle right out of the gates. The only potential exceptions are the true superstar collegiate players.
  16. I think 90 ECK was amazing, but what Gagne did was in an even more offensive era than 1990.
  17. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 06:38 PM) Gagne, in 2003, was damn near unhittable. I mean teams probably thought there was no way they were scoring on him, he would be my choice as that season was just sick. I mean 15 Ks per 9 inn, an almost 7:1 KK to BB ratio, 1.20 ERA, .133 BAA and a 55/55 in saves. Those are literally Nintendo numbers, granted he was probably aided by PEDs but damn, it was the best season for a reliever IMO. Agreed...no one even comes close to 2003 Gagne. Although 90 Eck was pretty damn filthy as well.
  18. This could be a good time for a rental car company offering up strollers and baby seats for free for people that rent cars from them (obviously they'd have to put down a deposit) but could be a nice marketing gimmick.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 04:55 PM) Dennis Eckersley 1990 No one can top Gagne's 03 season, imo. 55 Sv's, 1.20 ERA, 37 H (IN 82.1 INNINGS), and 120K's. It doesn't get more dominant than that.

    Films Thread

Thank god my GF doesn't want to see that movie.
  21. Personally I'd go with McDowells!!
  22. Youd' have to add him to the 40 and I don't believe the Sox will do that. Than again, they might, but considering this club will be in contention I find it hard pressed that he'd get any time and that any call-ups will be brought up for a particular skill-set (ie, defense or pinch-running or the ability to get righties or lefties out).
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) It should be in the How Does It Work Forum (most likely pinned). http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=66553
