Dodgers interested in Robert, Crochet, Pham
One rising Dodgers prospect that we could really use is Alex Freeland. He's a SS, #12 on the MLB.com list, but he just entered BA's top 100. These lists are always moving. He's cut his Ks, which was his big flaw, way down this season. Dodgersnation is a pretty good listen, and their prospect guy was just glowing about him. I'd prefer guys like him over the stagnant players. I just hope that Getz doesn't do what Hahn did and rely on mlb.com (or any ranking really) to make these trades.

How much is a guy like Fedde worth in a trade?
That article has a much higher return for Flaherty than Feddy, which is ridiculous. I do like Nacho from the Braves, if he can stick at short.

I guess it would be too easy for me to say not the guy who had been absolutely bombed the day before; or perhaps he could’ve gone to the guy who had pitched an effective inning 2 days before. That’s a bit of redboarding on my part, except that he consistently makes the decision that blows up. And then there was the 10th with his intentional walks with 2 outs: not with one out where you might do it to set up a double play; but with two outs where are you trying to pitch to a specific batter with no room for error. Low and behold the player he thinks is best to pitch to gets a hit. Of all the luck!

I don’t think Kopech’s issue is that he chokes the ninth. But I had no problem with him bringing him in on the seventh and pitching multiple innings. It’s a good showcase. After Kopech left the game is when Pedro started effing up.

It was a James Fox tweet. I’m on my phone so I’m not good with linking. You could just search on X Francona White Sox.

Well, that’s how. Melton. That’s the only way. I doubt that we get a higher rated prospect than him for Fedde. That’s another team. I would look deeper into their prospect ranks too. Those guys aren’t idiots. They find players..

Fedde and Vaughn for melton and a couple of other pieces. Astros could actually use Vaughn.

I read on Twitter that Bruce said on the radio that the Sox were talking with or had approached Francona. is that true or is that just Bruce musing.

Chavez, although I haven’t checked recently

WTF is he walking everybody for anyway? it gives a pitcher no room to maneuver. He’s gotta throw it over the plate. You could probably put 2/3 of these blown saves square on the back of the Dugout Dunce.

They have some more pitching in the minors. But these guys position here on the major league team: They’ve all got to go.

Moncada and Clevinger "returned from rehab assignments"
What does "been returned from" mean? When I read that i thought well they returned, so they're back and ready to go.

I think that the buyers are waiting for the supply to increase. The sellers are waiting for the offers to improve.

NIL impact on draft going forward/changes
i thought I read it in one of FS articles. (maybe it wasn't you). Maybe I misread it. Maybe I can find it. My surmise also is that Smith was a late audible called from on high.

Skubal/Orioles talk...
Heck, they have better than an outside shot to compete this year. They’re 6 back. I’d take them going forward (after this season) over the Royals.

Not defensively. But he does swing at everything.

NIL impact on draft going forward/changes
Are college baseball players really getting 6 figure money? it's just not that lucrative of a sport. Even the football numbers have been exaggerated, although there's never been any affirmative proof of those either. Regardless, any premium in high school players will likely evaporate. Shirley said in his interview that they didn't really know how to evaluate college hitters: he better learn quickly.

At least one of them needs to go. Benintendi would be first choice. They can’t lay it all on Eloy, Moncada, and Anderson. Shake things up. Don’t general manage like Pedro manages. As for Robert, again, the Mariners lead the league in strikeouts. On the front office show on the radio yesterday, their general manager said their biggest problem was too many strikeouts. Robert doesn’t help them there. getting a player who can immediately play back in a trade is probably a good idea for an extra piece. But not a player on a short term contract. Outman from the Dodgers would be fine. If you make a trade with the Phillies, taking back, their centerfielder would be fine.

He's got the same 2 year timeline as players we're dumping. I'm starting to talk myself onto Outman (as a piece; not the key piece); he has always hit, until this year. Maybe he's washed; but maybe it's a buy low. Either way, he does play a good CF, and I'm of the mind that in this era of everyone trying to hit fly balls, that OF defense is absolutely critical.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
Wilbur Wood might have made the Hall of Fame had that line drive not busted his knee; and he definitely would have made it had he not spent the first 1/2 of his career in the pen. Big assist to Ed Herrmann. Thanks for the Hemond recap, Lip. They don't make trades like that much anymore. But we could do for another Santiago-Eaton trade.

Crochet wants an extension to pitch in the playoffs
Maybe some fairly close teams with lots of prospects like the Cubs or Nats might be interested in the offseason. But kicking the can down the road carries its own risks. And the players are depreciating assets. With Crochet, you lose 1/3 of the post seasons, which is where is highest value lies.

Trouble is that Robert is a K machine these days, which is exactly what they don't need. The other curious thing about the Mariners is that their top 10 prospects are all position players. Their Major League team can't hit a lick. Yet they haven't called up a single prospect. Even if it would be "rushing" someone, you'd think that they'd still try it with a player or 2.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
Yea and he brought in Jay Johnstone, dispatching the hapless Syd O'Brien as part of that trade. I don't know what the Angels were thinking. Berry was an excellent defender, but he couldn't hit a lick. But the 1970 Sox also had a few good young players who were blossoming: Melton, Carlos May and Ed Herrmann. They also had a reliever Wilbur Wood who they turned into a dominant starter. Anyway Chris, I guess you got your Wilbur Wood moment. Now you need to make 3 Ken Berry trades.

7/21- Sox at Royals, 1:10
I was thinking MLB record. Anyway, Grifol manages as if he has a championship plug-and-play team. Best hitter hits 3rd; fast on base guy leads off. If have a couple of 7th inning guys and 8th inning guys and they get their inning each. Don't use closer until the 9th. Other than starting pitching, this is a ragtag bunch of misfits. you have to get dirty;; shake things up. Make changes. Do something. There is no "Book" for this wreckage of a roster.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
Hemond traded his veterans (late 20s; 30s) for younger veterans (mid 20s). The Ken Berry trade was something to behold. He also brought in a great manager and pitching coach.
