  1. Burger was early in the rebuild; is it really wise to start with unathletic players? And then they followed it up with another unathletic corner guy, Sheets. Of course, that's where the Sox stand now; I hope we demand athleticism defensive chops in these trades we're about to make.
  2. Exactly. There were other players they could have taken of equal ability who wouldn't have required overslot. OR actually go overslot for a player whose talent warrants it rather than reaching.
  3. Yes, but this is the one year they get an extra pick and you do have to fund it. But like I said, that’s just my cynical side.
  4. College senior in 10th round too. Good gracious.
  5. Probably, but that's just a curious approach considering they could have gotten equal/better talent (based on rankings) with those picks without having to go overslot. They haven't exactly demonstrated talent evaluation abilities above the norm. The cynical side of me says they just aren't going to spend their money; "You can trade for a comp pick, Chris, but I'm not paying for it."
  6. Who exactly have they drafted that was ranked much higher than the draft position, such that they warrant overslot, for which punting is required? Or perhaps that player has yet to be drafted.
  7. Well this guy should be right up the Sox' alley.
  8. Robert hasn't gotten it all together, yet still has an OPS >.800, 11/11 in Steals and 10 HRs. He's a major talent. Some team has got to bite. One player that hasn't been mentioned much that I would like the Sox to get is the player we should have drafted last year: Bradfield. I know he's no cinch to make it, but boy the team could use more speed and athleticism.
  9. From what I read, his swing needs a lot of work. Also pulls everything.
  10. Because he was in the bullpen until Getz came along.
  11. At least it breaks up non-stop "Getz sucks" And frankly, while he's made a bunch of questionable moves, Crochet and Fedde brought a lot more good than the others caused harm.
  12. Given the reaction for our acquisition of a 5 8 OF, I can't imagine the reaction with 5 5.5 Caldwell.
  13. It's like they punted round 1; or semi-punted. They have the geekiest Pres of Ops.
  14. This doesn't scream out "Shirley" to me; it screams "Safe pick" because we're pretty good with lefties. Last year was the "safe pick" type to, although he's not looking so safe. Anyway, no need to force position players in later rounds; if the value is with the high school pitchers, do what you need to do.
  15. He's kind of put himself into a box. He really needs to trade these guys for the best packages he can get regardless of whether they pitch or hit. Now, the prospects are narrowed, unless he is adept enough to bring 3rd teams in who want pitching prospects and have hitting prospects the Sox like. Seattle's top 10 prospects are all position players; I hope they want Robert.
  16. What's so great about Jones other than the Yankees saying he's "untouchable". Late first round pick, blah minor league numbers, high Ks.
  17. Good gracious. Smartest guys in the room. The absolute last of the possibilities i wanted the Sox to draft. Lord I hope I'm wrong about Smith.
  18. So it looks like a choice between Weatherholt and Griffin for us, I guess.
  19. He's a young guy. He can learn both. He's more valuable as a RF - get some value out of his arm.
  20. This team has 3 good players and the plan is to trade all 3. There are a few other okay players and they will be dispatched as well. Getz gets an F with the position player plugs that he brought in (Moldanado, Nicky Lopez etc.). This really had no long-term impact but it was impactful in making the 2024 team terrible. Nicky Lopez? Are you kdding? Mendick? He gets an F- for bullpen; he actually had veterans who have had a good season in his hands, and cut them for lesser pitchers. This cost the team trade pieces. Whoever in the org. thinks that Pedro Grifol is in any way competent gets no grade. That person needs to be banned from baseball. But, Getz gets an A+ for starting pitching: Crochet and Fedde. And frankly, in the long term, that way outweighs the first 2.
  21. They've got to can Grifol after this. Put that geezer 3B coach in charge. Anybody. Put a blow up doll in the dugout to act as manager.
  22. Grifol could have pulled him. But I'm sure he'll bring in the good relievers now that the game's out of reach. And like clockwork he did: NOW he brings in Brebbia. it's ridiculous to let this fool manage this team.
  23. The cutting Mendick part is fine, but otherwise no.
  24. Shuster pitches well; pull him after 1/2/3. Soroka comes in and gets an out: pull him. Kuhl comes in and gives up a run and it's like Pedro said "That's my boy" Kuhl gets another inning and gives up 2. Kuhl gets a 3rd inning and he's in trouble again. What the hell?
  25. And of course he's perfectly positioned in the lineup to kill a rally.
