Can't even beat the flailing Twins. ...who dumped their vets at the deadline like Getz should have done.

Sox trade Andrew Vaughn to acquire Aaron Civale
GreenSox replied to WestEddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Those were veterans who had a short stop-over with the Sox. Eddy has a list in one of his posts of a bunch of players who had their best years with the Sox...many of those were stopover vets. I doubt that the Sox either made or broke those guys. But something was going on: a relatively young core rapidly deteriorating at the same time. Others (Madrigal and Vaughn) never developing. Something happened...something was going on. The consistently barren farm (you can't blame the developers without blaming the drafters) exacerbated things....they had no replacements. Vaughn always looked like a hitter...that he's finally hitting isn't a huge surprise. But the Sox really should find out what, if anything, happened. Getz had stumbled here and there but thing were getting better. Then came the deadline and his affirmative decision to essentially stand pat despite the condition of this team. It's hard to get past that. -

In one game earlier this week, the Brewers didn't swing at a single 2-0 count. Let the other guy make the mistakes. -
Sox at Braves @ 615 M.Perez/Waldrep

Gee, a 1-0 loss. That's something new and different. Perez pitched a nice game...that would have been meaningful a month ago. Irrelevant today. -
Sean Burke optioned to AAA; Owen White called up
GreenSox replied to WhiteSox2023's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Burke, Cannon, Martin....yes, these guys are 3s at best, probably 4s once they work everything out. And it does take some experience...we're seeing that on the position side. Sox just seem to have a longer leash on AAAA and 30 year old + talent than young players.....and that was true with the prior 2 regimes as well. I figured 1 or 2 of BCM would end up in the pen...but that's because at least 2 of Schultz, Taylor and Smith will head the rotation. Well that plan isn't going too well, for various reasons on all 3. We also have the Shirley (speaking of a guy who gets a pass) specials like Kelley and Palette, who might end up being decent relievers. There certainly is room in the pen. The top 3 guys each gave up 2 in KC on Sunday; the second teamers gave up 3 each v. the Braves on Tuesday. -
Why not. It's been a while since the bullpen had a good meltdown. Of course, with Gilbert, Peguero, Alexander, you can't be surprised.
-
The Brewers steal a lot of bases...that's one area where the Sox are really poor, but as a rebuilder with a limited budget, they shouldn't be..they should target that area. Brewers have had scrap heap scores. The Sox really haven't, but this time it's not for lack of effort.

If we aive up 9 hits in 3 innings, we'd be down 8-0.

5 hits and 1 run through 3; and that with a solo shot. Nearly impossible to score.

8/17/2025 - Sox @ Royals - 1:10 pm - Davis v. Bergert
GreenSox replied to WestEddy's topic in 2025 Season in Review
Yes, I thought it certainly a possibility. Not coincidentally: Luis Robert OPS July: .990. Trade deadline passes, and OPS in August; 646. -
Julks with #13; Elko with 24. Lots to learn in Charlotte

It’s not Venable. The team seriously lacks talent and Getz has put a muzzle on bringing in fresh talent for the rebuild. -
He's doing it at the expense of the long-term. He's got Taylor and Rojas on this team for no reason at all. Pushing players out to make room for Martin Perez? What the heck?? Trade Robert? When? The best Robert has played in the last 2 seasons were the 4 weeks leading up to the trade deadline. Getz' demand of a starting position player from a contender was patently ridiculous; Okay, they wanted to do Tauchman a solid - fine - but his value will never be as high as it was in July. Getz refused to trade Civale. He trades Houser for a declining prospect who has no real upside. Up until the deadline, Getz was a flawed GM, but it looked like he had a plan and was trying. But now, it looks like his goal is to bring a 70 win team to Chicago. A dog and pony show
-
Anthropolis (a good, rare GM who wasn't trying to put one over on Getz) told Getz that he was going to waive/DFA most of those guys. Getz did it for Soroka; it was worth a shot - he just took a little longer than expected. Getz also got a prospect out of that deal. Sharp contrast to his recent efforts.. But Boozer is pitching well, and he's controllable, so why is he being sent down? He needs to be moved in the offseason and this doesn't help.

Sox trade Andrew Vaughn to acquire Aaron Civale

And they looked atrocious in the first few games of the season. And later, I watched them completely melt down in the 9th and blow a big lead against Arizona. And now this. Things can turn. -
Since July, Getz seems to be far more concerned with maxing that 2026 win total than developing a team that might be able to win in a couple of years. The light went on and he realized that he could bring back his entire .407 OF for next season. One less thing to worry about. Hurrah! The non-effort at the deadline and clinginess to these veterans is stunning and is stunting. It's a shame because the young pitching is coming together.
-
Midpack seems about right. Drafting seems about average: some good picks, but several prominent busts. And a lot of reaching. Took a pass on the July trading period.
-
Plenty of pitchers to audition. Perez should have been released when he came off the injured list. Also have OFs to audition, but Getz doesn't care. Taylor remains. Rojas can't hit, can't field, can't run (or he lollygags on the bases or both).
-
That was then. His job was to eat innings as efficiently as possible so as to be traded for as much as possible. This is now. Plenty of pitchers and the deadline has passed. He is crowding out players that the Sox need to look at.
-
Martin Perez is back. Brilliance. Take another bow, Getz.

Sox and six other teams w/o Top 100 player

Unless the Sox can copy the Brewers’ model. -
As Ringo sang, It don't come easy.

Yoendrys Gomez Up, Vargas Back, Julks DFAed, Elvis down
GreenSox replied to WestEddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The DFA he should force is himself. Or Rojas. That would be okay. -
I've been expecting him to get the call; but they're pretty deliberate with the pitchers still in the "prospect" category. And guys Kelley and Dalquist, while starting pitcher busts, are pitching pretty well in Birmingham's pen. These guys would bring some real talent to the pen (and hopefully sent Taylor back to the rotation). Hope to see at least Palette up; I believe that all will have to be on the 40 man in December anyway so just as soon take a look.
