I think Robert Person is the only FA Pitcher left (other than Rogers) that is worth a look.
  2. I agree. Hopefully he will do fine. I think we need Joe more for his glove then his bat. If he can hit .260-.270 15HR 60-70RBI I think that would be a good year for him. He doesn't need to be the star of the team, just a good defensive player with some timely hitting on occassion.

The only one of the bunch that is a true centerfielder is Lofton and I don't think we want him back. Sanders would be nice, but I think he only plays LF & RF.

Henderson has been a great leadoff hitter and player during his career and defintely a Hall of Famer. However, he is a butcher in the field and makes CLee look like a gold glover.

I would be shocked if any other team offers Rogers more than KW did.
  6. I agree Finley is too old and for the most part pitched poorly the last 2 years he was in the American League with Cleveland. If we can't sign Rogers ( and I would not offer him more than KW did), I would give the youngsters a shot at the #5 spot.
  7. Hopefully they will get along fine and the Sox will have a great year. If Frank hits like we know he can everything will be fine. However if Frank goes into a extended slump or funk then...........................who knows what will happen.

    ALCS, but no further
  9. Bonds is a great player, but he is 38, Pedro is a great pitcher but he is in a game only every 4-5 days. Arod, hmmmm I would have to really think about him. But being Arod makes 25 mil I would still have to stick with Maggs.
  10. I have been a Sox fan for over 40 years and IMO Maggs is the best all around outfielder that I have seen play for the Sox. I would not trade him for anybody.

I think Helling would have been a nice (modest priced) addition for the Sox. He could have been added insurance for the 5th starting spot.
  12. Hopefully Rogers will see the light and want to come here. If not let him retire. He screwed up not taking the Rangers offer. Nobody is going to pay him what he thinks he is worth.

I like Rowland, but is he a true centerfielder? I don't know I think the jury is out. We defintely lack depth there.
  14. Didn't he sign for 25 mil a year? I think it was for 5 or 6 years.
  15. Here it is http://www.sportsdatatech.com/baseball/hr_champs.htm. I can ususally remember stuff like that also, but mostly about the Sox going back to the late 50s early 60s. Ask me what I had for breakfast and I can't remember.
  16. Good answer I looked it up it was Schmidt in 1980.
  17. Nardi is Manuel's buddy that is the only reason he was hired.
  18. I hate in order the Yankees, the Cubs, the Cubs, the Cubs, the Twins and any team Pinella manages
  19. Sounds good..............
  20. The majority of Frank's problems (except his injury) are in his head. I have always been a Frank fan. However, if he wasn't so sensitive he could have owned this town. He is perhaps the greatest hitter to ever wear a Chicago uniform. Here is hoping that he is motivated and ready for this year. We need him.
  21. I hope we sign him. Another veteran lefty could not hurt.
  22. Jim, I totally agree on your assessment of Aparicio, Lollar and Landis. Aparicio was and still is my favorite Sox player of all time. As a kid growing up in the 50's I always carried his card in my wallet. Like you said he had great range and in my mind he evented the stolen base. He also was a pretty good hitter for a shortstop at that time. Landis could flat catch anything he could just not hit. Lollar was a solid receiver and a pretty fair hitter. Lollar in his time makes Konerko of today look like an Olympic sprinter. Lollar was super slow on the basepaths. I can remember several times Lollar lining a pitch off the left field wall and barely making it to first base before the throw in to the infield. Several times he was almost thrown out at first. For players with average speed most of those hits would have been doubles.
  23. If we can get Rogers at a discount, I would say yes. Hoepfully he will want to play for a contender and would accept an incentive based contract.
  24. Our bullpen should be one of our strengths. It is deep and talented. We have a pretty good balance of lefties and righties.
  25. Kempers great response. I agree with everything you said.
