I find it funny that Walker already has 3 CS in professional ball. And my boy Nate Jones has quietly been a beast for a while unnoticed. Love his arm.

POLL:Gordo, is he breaking out of that season long slump?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 12:01 PM) Hitters who have excelled under Walker Dye Thome (for his age) Lillibridge (well, for 2 months this year...compared with Braves) [too early to call] Konerko [i'll give you that one, though he was still putting up .850+ OPS before Walker's hiring in 03, which ironically enough, was the same year Konerko had his worst year] Quentin Ramirez (compared to expectations upon signing) Rowand (compared to most of the last 3-4 years, he had a couple of really good years in Philly when healthy) [one good year in Chicago and one in Philly, so it's a stretch to give you that one] Crede [i always thought Crede should of been better with the bat than what he turned out to be] Uribe Pablo Ozuna [i don't know how you can count a 189 AB year, albeit one year at that, for a utility player as a change] QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) A better question would be who has left Walker and gotten significantly better as a hitter? Swisher for sure. (though it wasn't hard to do that with his horrific year) We'll see what Dunn does if the sox wind up dealing him (if they can) next off-season. And no, I'm not as adamant about Walker as others here, but I'm not a fan of him as a hitting coach either (especially with young talent with Q being the exception, as their always is, to the rule) -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 11:44 PM) Reed is a sure fire Major Leaguer in my eyes though. I'd say the guys after him and Viciedo are less than 50% to have a multi-year Major League career. So now you guys are basing this off prospects who can/could make the majors with limited upside (not saying that is Reed necessarily) than prospects with the highest potential who can/could bust? And yea, you know I wasn't a fan of Mitchell (or the pick of him) at the time anyways Dan (like the tools, but was very risky for a 1st rounder). -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 11:27 PM) The Lions are getting better but I dont think their record will reflect that this year. They have a pretty tough schedule this year. They got to keep Stafford healthy. If that guy ever plays the whole year, they are a very good/underrated team. Hell last season, they got screwed over two wins. Solid QB, good RB, outstanding #1 WR, underrated TE, beast DL.. I would say their main weaknesses is DB, OL (though IMO, their OL isn't that bad). Maybe a better #2 WR cause I see Burleson more as a #3 but they did just draft Titus Young who could be that guy. Stafford is the key for them to do anything in this division though. -

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 08:37 PM) I hate that Reed is ranked second. That is not insulting the list but rather how thin the system is. I can't really argue with the list at all except maybe Escobar. I really can't seem him hitting enough to be a starting MLB player. Not a fan of it either, and rather disagree with it. Unless your the second comming of Mariano, I can't put a reliever that high on any prospect list no matter how thin the system is. I personally would rank Jared ahead of him, based off potential. He's had one bad year comming off surgery and not playing for a year. That should not all of a sudden drop him from guys like Petricka (who hasn't had a good year either) or Reed or even Trayce. (and I'm probably the highest on Trayce than anyone here) IMO, Rienzo is too low as well (so is Short, Santiago) and I'd put Walker at the top 5 based on tools alone. I agree with Kuhn though. Don't think he projects more than a utility player down the road based on scout reports. -
Walker with his first professional walk.

One of those "nights" for a typical guy. Seems like every girl you talk to.. you get shot down. Rarely it happens to me.. but I guess thats karma for teasing my buddy last week when he was getting shot down numerous times.

When Beckham is back to the doubles machine, good eye, solid gap to gap hitter like he was his rookie year, and post all star break last season, then I'll say he's back. -
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:37 PM) Brandon Allen is 25 and playing at altitude in Reno and in a ridiculous hitter's league. Not comparable. No kidding. The PCL is a notorious hitter's league. Hell, Jerry Owens was putting up crazy numbers in that league.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 09:54 AM) See, that's exactly why I think being concerned about him so far is unfair and moving him up now is a question mark...he hasn't hit great at any level, but for all practical purposes his 2010 season was a washout due to that illness. Well your guess is as good as any when questioning the brass on moving guys up when the results don't show. Hell just this year, they moved Blanke up when he was in a 2-32 slump or something like that.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 09:45 AM) Given how much injury time he took last year, I'm just not sure that now is the time to "See what we have in him". I start saying that when I'm convinced there's nothing more that a kid can learn at that level (see: Viciedo, Dayan). Phegley's pushed up so rapidly this year that I'd be easily convinced there's more he can learn at AA. I just don't think the sox brass is as high on him as they were with say... Flowers at the time (though I can be wrong obviously). He really hasn't hit studly at any particular level since he was drafted (unless you want to count the .292/.337/.427/.764 in 89 ABs in A ball). The sox have done this before with prospects however. Hit average at a level, but push them to see if they can catch lightning in a bottle (or to work with the right hitting coach), especially for a higher pick to justify it.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 07:45 AM) That's an aggressive move upwards for Phegley. Has he been hitting well enough to belong in AAA? Got to see what you have in him for quite a reach of a pick (depending who you ask) at the time.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 12:50 PM) Sources are saying that Frolik will indeed be at the Blackhawks convention this weekend, which is a good sign that a deal could be done. EDIT: Done SOON, that is. 2.3 mil cap hit. EDIT: Just a rumor right now though.

Nice start for Dexter Carter. Just consistency from start to start, then I'll be happy.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 07:20 AM) Well if you are concerned that Dunn can't handle the mental aspects of DHing, maybe moving Dunn to LF has some logic to it. If that's the case, Alonzo can slide into the DH spot next year. Having said that, I'm not buying that his struggles are relating to DHing though. I have absolutely no idea how you got that out of my post. I was more or less talking about his salary.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 03:22 PM) The mid 20's kind of blow when you don't have a job. They blow for me and I have a great job (problem is.. I work night shift so.. Friday and sometimes Saturday nights out the door!)

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:26 AM) And they had to cut dollars. They didn't have a choice. They couldn't shop around and wait for a good deal to come along. The cap mandated moves had to be made that didn't involve getting salary back. On guys like Steeg, Eager, Niemi, Sopel, Burish etc. your right.. though I still think they could of kept Ladd.
