  1. Other than perhaps being that veteran guy to help (talk to) get another guy who resembles him when he was younger (albeit a poor man's version of him) head out of his ass, I would say no.
  2. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) I think you guys are infatuated with his 96 mph fastball. He's had an up and down year to be kind and I don't think the market for a 34 y.o. setup guy who is owed $12M over the next two years will be anywhere near what you think it will be. He's been the best LH setup man in the game the last three years. One mediocre season and suddenly he's got a terrible contract? This isn't a guy who is all of a sudden taken a dip in velocity or losing his stuff. He's had some s***ty luck. In fact, his numbers across (H/9, BB/9, SO/9, WHIP, etc.) are almost identical to his 07 numbers. He was probably done then too. Matt definitely strikes me as a guy who will probably have his fastball for a long time in this game. (ala Billy Wagner, and no I'm not comparing them as players/careers) I think he's a solid pick to rebound next year just like he did in 08 even if it's not with us.

    Saladino and Jon Gilmore are both having one hell of a hot streak.
  5. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) I can't see a 5 year deal for any pitcher coming from the Sox. Plus, I'm not certain he's worth $17 million a year. He's most likely got plenty of good years ahead of him. I could see the Sox offering 3/$45 or maybe 4/$60, but that would be a stretch. If they're not going to pay him at least $15 million/year, they'd be better off trading him for a load of prospects. Even I can agree with this. No way you give him Weaver money if the sox go that route.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) Danks has essentially been the same pitcher for going on 4 years now. There's really no upside. That's not a bad thing. But Clayton Kershaw he's not. Like I said, you won't change my opinion on him at all. This is the same guy who put up a 138 ERA+, 1.22 WHIP at age 23. No doubt in my mind he will improve going into his prime. Still sad to see he has s*** for luck getting wins with this organization (which is what misinformed media outlets see and go by their opinion). Hard to believe a 107 ERA+, 1.31 WHIP, 1.8 WAR is his worst year since his rookie season (hell he had 6 wins with worse numbers in 07).
  7. I loved him since his days as a prospect in Texas forming the DVD trio (with Volquez and Diamond). Still has alot of potential left and at age 26, his best days are well ahead. Absolutely, but like I've said before, I think highly of him than most here. Though I've said give him Buehrle money (4/56), Weaver is a bit more than that.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 06:33 PM) If we had a suitable replacement in AA/AAA then you'd have some chips to bring to the table. But an infield of Morel/Escobar/Beckham from an offensive standpoint would literally kill me. As I would drink more and most certainly develop cirrhosis of the liver. You've just seen a .169/.297/.298/.595 and a .212/.253/.313/.566 season from Adam Dunn and Alex Rios. I think you can stomach a 5'10 150 lb young, cost controlled SS putting up 1995-96 Ozzie Guillen numbers. In fact, I remember the same people saying the same thing about Rios last season when me and Dick Allen wanted to get rid of him during the off-season. Hindsight is always 20/20 every year.
  9. Love watching Tyler Flowers approach at the plate. Just a breath of fresh air.
  10. Wilkins has been very good as well. Love his patience. Won't turn 23 till September so he isn't too old at that level.

  12. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 09:12 PM) Go ahead, DL Quentin and let those who have a woody for Viciedo rejoice. Too bad he's hurt too. Definitely the worst time for Quentin to get an injury. Viciedo wouldn't help us right now with his hand still not 100%.

    23 homers now for Trayce.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Kinney's got that valuable World Series experience that we're going to need later on. This post needed more love.
  15. Son of a b****. That is the best thing that could ever happen to that franchise was getting rid of him. Now get rid of Wrigley Field (as well as most of that front office) and I might have to start taking the Cubs alot more seriously in winning.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) Garfein says he hopes to be back september 1 He can take his time.. I love me some OBP.
  17. Second time he was hit in the face with a line drive in the last two years. Last year he was hit by his mouth/cheekbone. (needed 18 stitches)
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) That nickname is terrible. Guillen is the one with a twitter feed, two websites, and a facebook page. Williams wants nothing to do with the media. I am taking the nickname back. He might be talking about KW's typical party nights and womanizing...
  19. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 07:56 AM) And Dunn's contract was market value, the number of years wasn't ridiculous, and the salary wasn't overcumbersome. The main problem with these deals is that they players arent/werent producing. I find it hilarious people say that it was awful now, as if they knew he was going to have one of the worst seasons in MLB history after he signed it.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) I'm surprised LeBron's entourage didn't try to confiscate this video. Maybe because that wasn't being "dunked on"?
