  1. Won't comment on the trade as I let my feelings be known on it long ago. I hope Pena fully recovers and pitches in the future. I doubt it will be with us, nor should it be.

Drunk out of my mind last night. But before that, met a fine ass playboy model. Pretty cool.
  3. QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) CSNChi_Beatnik Brett Ballantini Dayan has aggravated his broken thumb injury; thumb is swollen and has been bothering him for a week now. I was wondering why he struggled so much during that stretch. Hasn't really been the same since the all-star game.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) Not to mention Gio. Yes he was. (though he wasn't a late pick, but a great compensation one) Miss that guy.
  5. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 10:38 PM) I think some people are confused thinking we want to move Matt. I don't want to. Correct. I think people here are now arguing just to argue. I think I've only seen one or two posters who wouldn't do this deal. (and one of them was because of Addison Reed)
  6. QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 10:18 PM) haha, I cant tell if your responses are legit or not.. this is like the 4th one ive seen where it just had a hilarious mocking vibe to it It's getting ridiculous really (not his post just those types). The best left handed reliever/set-up man in the game prior to this season is "just another hard throwing lefty." I think 98-99% of the posters here would make this trade in an instant, but damn, stop selling Thornton short.
  7. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) ... 1.03 whip is ridiculously good, for the record. and a 1.12 is also great. I think you don't quite understand the stat. I understand it perfectly. I think you didn't get my post. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) ok - and based on your standards, brian wilson STILL isn't elite. Wanna know his WHIPs? 08 - 1.44 09 - 1.20 10 - 1.18 11 - 1.41 uh oh... You called him elite, not me. I personally think he's overrated actually. Crazy son of a b**** though.
  8. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) People also are ignoring the fact that elite relievers come and go. Linebrink used to be elite, what's happened to Jonathan Broxton? Brian Wilson wasn't always this good. What happened to Bobby Jenks? George Sherrill was good for 10 minutes. Joe Nathan. Cliff Politte. I could go on and on and on and on and on. Relievers are the MOST unpredictable players in baseball. Linebrink's lowest WHIP over those "elite" years was 1.036. That would have been Thornton's 3rd best since he's been here. And you know damn well Nathan was a stud before injury. Of course he won't be the same. 27 year old Broxton has one off year this year and all of a sudden he's s***? Wilson only had one meh year which was 08 and was solid in 07 (albeit only 24 games), 09-11. The rest was more or less had a career year. Your right relievers are unpredictable (as if anyone didn't know that) but you know which guys are the true elite when they've had the better history of doing it (unless your an insane freak like Mariano which in one year [07] had that 1.121 WHIP year. Just terrible. Should of retired).
  9. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:37 PM) Thornton will be 35 at the end of the season. Who knows how long he's got. Hasn't lost any velocity on his arm at all. Hell I remember people saying the same thing about Billy Wagner for years. (and no I'm not comparing them as far as performances/careers) And no for anyone wondering, I'm not defending against this deal at all if you didn't read a page before.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) Have you bothered to check what elite setup men are making these days? Especially elite lefthanders? Yea I understand EJax, but people are being very shortsighted on Thornton. Dude is one of, if not the best left handed reliever(s)/set-up guys in the game prior to this year. Now do you make the deal? Absolutely, but don't sell Thornton short. I could see him thriving in the NL, bailing out St. Louis alot in later innings.
  11. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) He wasn't very quiet when he went after Peavy. KW and the front office hasn't been quiet since "The Club" came around. Most of us knew about the Edwin Jackson deal early too.
  12. You do the deal and don't look back. Maybe it was because I was a big fan of his as a prospect, but I LOVE Colby Rasmus. And for those saying he is Alex Rios, only in underachieving talent. Rasmus isn't lazy, has better plate discipline, not to mention cost controlled and is only 24 (I will say Rios is the better fielder though). Both were considered "bad attitude" guys (as well as A.J.) at one time too. Rasmus, Viciedo, Beckham, Sale, (maybe Morel for his defense) is a nice, cost controlled, building block with other guys the sox see fit to build around as well.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) Is that C. Jones guy on Rome any good? Seems old to be playing in A ball Very cool thing for Heidenreich to tell his family for the rest of his life even if he never makes the bigs. "I struck out Chipper Jones."

Kanny and W-S piling up the runs again. Another good day for those affiliates. (W-S has 9 runs and only 5 hits in 6 innings)

I find it funny that Walker already has 3 CS in professional ball. And my boy Nate Jones has quietly been a beast for a while unnoticed. Love his arm.
  16. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 01:34 AM) We could buy our old farm back. I was waiting for someone to finally post this.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 12:01 PM) Hitters who have excelled under Walker Dye Thome (for his age) Lillibridge (well, for 2 months this year...compared with Braves) [too early to call] Konerko [i'll give you that one, though he was still putting up .850+ OPS before Walker's hiring in 03, which ironically enough, was the same year Konerko had his worst year] Quentin Ramirez (compared to expectations upon signing) Rowand (compared to most of the last 3-4 years, he had a couple of really good years in Philly when healthy) [one good year in Chicago and one in Philly, so it's a stretch to give you that one] Crede [i always thought Crede should of been better with the bat than what he turned out to be] Uribe Pablo Ozuna [i don't know how you can count a 189 AB year, albeit one year at that, for a utility player as a change] QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) A better question would be who has left Walker and gotten significantly better as a hitter? Swisher for sure. (though it wasn't hard to do that with his horrific year) We'll see what Dunn does if the sox wind up dealing him (if they can) next off-season. And no, I'm not as adamant about Walker as others here, but I'm not a fan of him as a hitting coach either (especially with young talent with Q being the exception, as their always is, to the rule)
  18. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 11:44 PM) Reed is a sure fire Major Leaguer in my eyes though. I'd say the guys after him and Viciedo are less than 50% to have a multi-year Major League career. So now you guys are basing this off prospects who can/could make the majors with limited upside (not saying that is Reed necessarily) than prospects with the highest potential who can/could bust? And yea, you know I wasn't a fan of Mitchell (or the pick of him) at the time anyways Dan (like the tools, but was very risky for a 1st rounder).
  19. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 11:27 PM) The Lions are getting better but I dont think their record will reflect that this year. They have a pretty tough schedule this year. They got to keep Stafford healthy. If that guy ever plays the whole year, they are a very good/underrated team. Hell last season, they got screwed over two wins. Solid QB, good RB, outstanding #1 WR, underrated TE, beast DL.. I would say their main weaknesses is DB, OL (though IMO, their OL isn't that bad). Maybe a better #2 WR cause I see Burleson more as a #3 but they did just draft Titus Young who could be that guy. Stafford is the key for them to do anything in this division though.
