  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) Chapman went 4 1/3 innings, 0 ER, 9 K's. How long before he's called up? To think, I thought the Reds management were idiots letting that kid, who is so raw (waaaay more than Stras who is in AA right now) start off in AAA like this (not to mention Leake who has never even pitched in the minors be up in the big leagues) It's still very early, but so far it looks like I'm the idiot for doubting them.
  2. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) Kannapolis Intimidators vs. Rome Braves Matt Wickswat vs. Arodys Vizcaino should be a good matchup. Well you were way off on that one bro. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) Escobar keeps hitting- 2/3, 2B, BB, SO. Dan is gonna be very happy to hear this. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 07:47 PM) Who the hell is Matt Wickswat? Undrafted FA signing by us. If I remember correctly, he was the ace of SCU for a while before he hit the injury bug. Judging by his numbers and bio, he's not overpowering, but locates well and likes to keep hitters off-balance. (good changeup) QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) It's going to be a long, sad season in Birmingham. Yea I feel bad for ya John.. Going from the "dream team" sort of speak from last year, to really an below average Baron team. Don't worry though, the second half could be good, or next season as W-S has a very good team this year and IMO, some of those guys can move up this year at the rate they are going. It's a shame Mitchell isn't out there.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 12:14 PM) "Maybe this is a good sign" Bulls*** Hawk... Turns out he was right. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) so, Andruw and Kotsay came through for us big time? is this rotating DH thing actually working? I've said it before, it is a good idea.... but you need better hitters to make it good. I'm sure if we had Kubel and Cuddyer as our LH and RH sticks, noone would be complaing about the rotating DH. BTW, in the two wins the sox have hit homers in both victories (3 today) I tell ya, this Small/Ozzie ball is really paying off.
  4. QUOTE (OsweGo-Go Sox @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) To be fair, Castro has some pretty decent pop in his bat. Ya he's got the pop, and Lucy has the speed. (though not sure if some of that is limited since his knee-cap got destroyed) I also think Castro just had a bad season adjusting to the AL too so I'll cut him some slack. (he did help Buehrle pitch a perfect game too) Just always thought 1 mil was steep for a backup catcher so I am being too harsh.
  5. QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) This ^^^ That said, Jones is capable of giving all three starting OFers a day off every once in a while. I wouldn't mind him playing the field once or twice a week. That's the hope. The thing is, it seems Ozzie has been playing him only in CF so far, albeit, only a few games played and moved RIOS to LF.. a position he never played before prior. (though is still a great defender in any OF position) Texas only had Jones at the corner OF positions last year. I would hope Ozzie knows Jones can play LF and RF as well as CF. The only place I want to see Rios move to is RF as I think your wasting his defense in LF.
  6. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) It's hard to lose a game when Mark Buehrle is pitching. It seems Mark won't be the one "wearing it" as far as our pitchers getting a win this season.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 07:16 PM) I'd rather have Lucy anyway. Neither is likely to hit worth a damn, but Lucy can throw out runners, handles pitchers well, and brings some athleticism. I've long said I didn't understand burning 1 million on Castro when you have a guy who can probably put up .184/.262/.382/.643 which is what Castro put up with us last year. Lucy is a horrid hitter, but he's very good defensively (and calling games, good speed for a catcher) and at league minimum no less.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 04:31 AM) We're going to win cause Mark is pitching. That's how it works. If he pitches a goose egg like last time, I'm sure even our offense can give him one run.
  9. QUOTE (SockMe @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) Hawks need a win against Red Wings to get the 1 seed. Yea it's a win-win almost. The Wings can win and gain 5th and we play either Nashville or LA. (depending if LA wins or loses in OT) Or the Hawks win and play Colorado and the Wings lose + LA lose, means the Wings play the Canucks. (what I've been hoping for all along. Let one of those teams knock the other out.) Edit: Got this from another board. Kings W + Wings W = Wings #5 , Kings #6 , Preds #7 Kings W + Wings OT/SOL = Kings #5 , Wings #6 , Preds #7 Kings OT/SOL + Wings W = Wings #5 , Preds #6 , Kings #7 Kings L + Wings W = Wings #5 , Preds #6 , Kings #7 Kings W + Wings L = Kings #5 , Preds #6 , Wings #7 Kings OT/SOL + Wings L = Kings #5 , Preds #6 , Wings #7 Kings L + Wings OTL/SOL = Wings #5 , Preds #6 , Kings #7 Kings L + Wings L = Preds #5 , Wings #6 , Kings #7 So in other words.. the Hawks are guaranteed to NOT play the Wings in the first round regardless if the Wings win or not. It will be either Nashville, Kings or Colorado.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 07:25 AM) Teahen, Jones, Kotsay,Pierre,..........these guys are all HOF quality hitters at this point in their careers. The fact that they haven't hit well during the season's first 4 games is ample proof Greg Walker is a good and needs to be fired immediately. Yet another ridiculous thread. Reminds me of what I said in the Guillen thread a couple of days ago. This isn't last year when he had established hitters in Thome, Dye, etc.. Guys like Kotsay, Pierre, Jones, etc.. are what they are. NOW, if Konerko, Quentin, Beckham, Alexei are hitting horribly by say.. July, then the bashing is more warranted.
  11. Happy B-Day Joe. :cheers God I hate you.
  12. QUOTE (SockMe @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 12:25 AM) win tomorrow and the Hawks get the 1 seed! Hawks play Sunday. We gotta hope San Jose loses tomorrow. That would guarantee the Hawks the #1 seed and Quennville can have some options. (resting people, putting Huet in net for confidence, etc..) I would love to see the Kings win both their games, Nashville to win and Detroit to lose and be the 6th seed and play the Canucks though.
  13. Silverio in 2 games.. 0-5 4 K's Nick Ciolli 0-6 5 K's... Not a good start.
  14. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) The Bulls do not deserve to make the playoffs. Losing twice to the Nets? Disgusting. It's embarrassing. Nets... 12 wins and two came from us. I can care less how the Bulls do anymore, I'm done with them. It's Sox and Hawks for the spring/summer. The refs did not help much in this game though I'll say that. Almost seemed like they were trying to give that game to the Nets. Rose got fouled like 5 times (even when they showed the replay!!!) and he got no calls. Rose, Noah and Brad Miller did everything they could to win this game for us. OT: J.R. Smith is one of the biggest idiots on the planet going 1 on 3, when your star player is laying on the floor. Even his own teammates called him out.
  15. I'm not Ozzie's biggest fan as a manager, but even I agree that 4 games is way too harsh to jump him. He's brutal in game (though it's hard when you have Joey Cora as your bench coach), but you can't blame him for Alexei's 2 errors, Kotsay and Jones hitting .200 and lower (though you can rip him on wanting those guys in the first place, i.e. resigning Kotsay) Teahen not showing up, etc.. etc.. I've said it plenty of times too, there should be ZERO blame Greg Walker threads this season. Look at the crap he has to work with. If Beckham, Quentin and Konerko are hitting .230 by July (not to mention there are the only four I see putting up a .350+ OBP unless I'm missing someone.. Maybe Teahen if he hits as good as he's walking), then I'll jump on Walker.
  16. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 06:16 PM) Sounds like Silverio has been pretty helpless thus far with two strikeouts. Ciolli and Vargas aren't doing much better. Teheran has 6 K's already in 5 IP. This was gonna be a tough match-up for some of the Kanny hitters from the get go.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 04:46 PM) Well, it's also definitely not going to be Putz with him throwing those 92-93 MPH Billy Koch-esque fastballs...not unless he can get back up into the 94-97 MPH range again. Which may or may not ever happen. Give him time. This is the first year in about 2 years the guy is completely healthy. He'll get stronger as the year goes.
  18. We heard the same talk with Nunez (from ppl here and this org) a couple of years ago. I agree with DA, lets not jump the gun here.
  19. Twins lineup.. Span CF Hudson 2B Hardy SS Morneau 1B Cuddyer RF Kubel DH Young LF Harris 3B Butera C QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) Reason? I believe a day off.
  20. Hopefully Nunez has a good first outing. I'm really stocked to see my boy Nathan Jones pitch as a starter again! Looks like Kanny is gonna get an early test tonight. Teheran (Braves pitcher) is a good looking prospect.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 04:19 PM) jones is getting 550k for the year. It's not enough resources allocated towards him to care. I thought it was 500K, which makes it even less to care.
  22. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:49 PM) Some people forget 2007 even transpired. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) I've had several shock therapy sessions to help me forget that year. What they said.
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Alexei is sandwiched between some good hitters today. I expect his walk rate to go up now. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) Lucy bothers me so incredibly bad. He's bothered me ever since we passed on Suzuki to take him.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) At least Ozzie didn't trot out a 9 righties lineup. 8 (since Vizquel switch hits) isn't close enough for ya? I was shocked he's letting Pierre still bat since he's left-handed. Dude hits both RHP and LHP well over his career (average wise) so it's nice to see Ozzie wising up.
