Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
striker replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) There shouldn't be an issue. Especially, once he goes through the physical. This type of injury will be very easy to assess if there is any long term issues. True -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 11:18 AM) I was gonna say. Its a torn ACL. A couple posters here are acting like the kid completely shredded his knee or had a more serious injury that he'll never be the same again in some aspects (ala Jared Mitchell). Prospects already come with enough risk though, you don't want to add more. IMO. Especially since Lewis would be the #2 piece in the deal. If he was a throw in, then not as big of a deal. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 09:53 AM) Except with that knee injury, you never know if he'll come back at 100%. Don't think they would trade for a player unless they've scoured all the doctor's reports and monitored in the spring. Possible, but unlikely. Plus projecting players from Mercer Univ. isn't a simple equation, either. Yeah, didn't realize Lewis was injurred. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 11:08 PM) BlackSox13 brings up an intriguing idea. The Mariners. Lewis/O'Neill/Neidert/Vogelbach/Haniger isn't terrible. Someone on twitter suggested the Mariners as the 3rd team. Mariners get McCutchen. Pirates get Quintana White Sox get Glasnow (MLB Pipeline #8), Lewis (MLB Pipeline #28), O'Neil (MLB Pipeline #60) This would rival the Eaton and Sale returns as far as MLB Pipeline rankings. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) One thing I'm thinking about right now is that the White Sox have already taken 2 franchises that think they can win right now...and gutted them. So, there were teams willing to go all-in and make a move, and teams that had the resources to do so, and 2 of those teams are now gone. So now...we're left with a set of teams that should still make moves, but they're more hesitant to do so. So, maybe we're also running into a demand shortage. We've tapped out 2 teams, leaving only a handful of teams who even have the resources to make such a move. If that were the case, then waiting on a few drafts, signings, and minor league breakouts, maybe even combined with a major league surprise or injury or two, could be required before anyone steps up to pay this price. The difference is now we are dealing with mid market teams that value their prospects much more. -

I like IF and CF prospects the most. I'd want a top fielder and top pitching prospect from each. So here is how I would rank them. 1. Pirates - Meadows, Newman, Keller, Diaz 2. Rockies - Rodgers, Hoffman, Tapia, Murphy 3. Dodgers - Bellinger, Verdugo, Barnes, Alvarez/DeLeon 4. Yankees - Torres, Rutherford, Sheffield, Andujar 5. Astros - Martes, Tucker, Perez, Stubbs -

I love bouncing my trade ideas off of Dave Cameron. From the chat today... Striker 12:36 Quintana and Jones for Glasnow, Meadows, Bell and Keller Dave Cameron 12:36 Probably too rich for PIT, but interesting. Jones is worth a lot, so maybe that's not so far off. -

I have to think that Q hasn't moved yet because there are still a lot of wins available via free agency. I'm guessing, if he goes, it's in January. -

Jeff Sullivan's thoughts on Q to the Rockies. striker: Any scenario where White Sox can get both Rodgers and Dahl back from the Rockies for Quintana? Perhaps include Jones? Quintana + Jones for Rodgers, Dahl, Pint, Murphy + 3 other pieces. 10:29 Jeff Sullivan: Something built around Quintana/Jones and Rodgers/Dahl is not too lopsided either way. But I do hesitate to believe the Rockies would want to push forward like that, especially with Dahl lined up to help right away. I don’t know how much they’d believe Quintana would fit in that ballpark, and that would be a very heavy investment 10:30 Jeff Sullivan: If Colorado played elsewhere, the equation would be different. But Quintana in Coors could be a particular risk 10:30 Jeff Sullivan: He is, after all, mostly a contact pitcher -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) Not sure if this was posted. Was bored at work and Googled "Jose Quintana rumors" and came up with this article from yesterday. More of the same but oh well. http://houseofhouston.com/2016/12/15/houst...s-top-priority/ here is another good one. http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2016/12/16/13..._source=twitter -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 09:33 AM) I agree 100%. Doesn't seem like a Pirates thing to do. Unless they unload a couple of the guys at the MLB level for prospects. I disagree. 1. McCutchen makes Meadowns expendable. Even if they traded McCutchen, the return could be used to acquire Quintana without having to trade Meadows. 2. The Pirates have a lot of talent in both the majors and the minors. Adding Quintana would add wins sooner vs. later (with prospects). 3. Quintana is under control for four years. If they kept McCutchen and added Quintana, they could make a run for it the next couple of years and sell McCutchen at the 2018 trade deadline (if they aren't in it) and trade Quintana. That would easily replenish their minors. The risk there is if either player declines. Quintana is exactly what the Pirates need, a 4 years cost controller top of the rotation starter. -

QUOTE (GermanSoxFan @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 07:58 AM) Seattle doesn't have the farm system to pull off a Q trade. Lewis had a major knee injury as well. I like a couple of their players, but they don't have the elite prospects it would take. Robertson or Miguel Gonzalez would be the guys that they can afford prospect wise. They could do a Gonzalez + Abreu trade. -
QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 08:43 PM) Arroyo is a legit prospect. No way Giants give him up for 1 year of Frazier. He's their future 3B. Hit tool is plus. Include Jones then

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 11:29 AM) Reed would be worth a gamble in a three of four player package. He entered 2016 as a highly touted prospect but a horrible 48 game stretch at the mlb level has tarnished that quite a bit. Hitting .164 overall and .064 in 17 at bats against lefties is frightening for sure for a guy pegged as a plus hitter. If Musgrove is not in the deal I could see Martes/Tucker/Reed plus one lower level prospect making sense, although Houston might not want to give up on him so quickly I'm not a Reed fan. 1. There is always a supply of 1B in the free agent market. 2. His spray charts (small sample size) show he's a dead pull hitter, which means he'll be subject to shifts. 3. His minor league splits don't look good against LHP. I'd rather have Hernandez since he can play CF and Stubbs (CA), both positions that are hard to fill. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) If the rumored asking price is legit, Musgrove could be the problem We're prepared to trade players to improve our club right now," Luhnow said before departing from the winter meetings Wednesday night. "We're just not prepared to trade away players that are core to our production in 2017, and those are sometimes the players that are required to get these deals done." Musgrove might be holding it up right now but he's easy to work around with Reed, Fisher, Hernandez, Stubbs, Paulino and Perez as alternatives (possibly 2-3 of them). I think Jansen and Turner are the first dominos to fall before Q is moved, as Jones/Robertson/Frazier could be add ins to the deal to get more back. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:47 PM) Anything more than Martes, Reed and Tucker would be a big overpay for Houston Reed would likely still be a top #75 prospect right now if ranked We can ask for Reed/Martes/Tucker/Fisher, but no team will gut their farm to that extent Rangers pretty much gutted their minors for Beltran and Lucroy. -

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Nov 24, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) Don't take everything you see based off of only top 100 prospect rankings. We all know about Mazara. Andy Ibanez is one of the best 2B prospects. Mendez is one of the best LHP prospects. Cole Ragans and Alex Speas have arguably the highest ceiling arms in the Rangers farm. Matuella was in the running for 1st pick overall pre-TJS. As mentioned Taveras has phenomenal tools and ceiling. Ronald Guzman was signed along with Mazara as the top two 16 year olds for huge bonuses a few years ago. While Guzman isn't a slam dunk he's improved greatly over the years and mashed 16 HR this year between AA and AAA. More of a hit tool guy with developing power. Just based off of numbers, Jurado should be a solid innng eater, which is super useful. Payano is hugely underrated at this point. He put up a 2.08 ERA with 82K and 29 BB in 73.2 innings in A-ball, with 3 good offerings including a fastball that touches the mid 90s (according to MLB pipeline). It will be interesting to see what window of contention the Sox aim for based on their trades. The Ranger's prospects appear to be farther from the majors than what the Astros or Dodgers can offer. But that also aligns more with the talent in their pipeline -
Rumor: Dodgers & Sox discussing Sale & Frazier
striker replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) lol no way we would get all 3 + for anyone. Completely unrealistic I think you do... I heard what Callis was talking about for asking price for Sale (Benintendi & JBJ & Devers & Kopech) and I thought he was nuts, but then I thought about a couple of things. 1. If you are the Nationals, Red Sox, Dodgers, Astros or Rangers, you have money, you have a lot of prospects and you have a window of competitiveness. Even if you are the Cardinals and Pirates, you still fall in the same boat. You have great 2017 & 2018 rosters and you have so much depth that one big piece could really push you over the edge. Sure Urias, De Leon, Bellinger, Verdugo and Alvarez, or Benintendi, Moncada, and Kopech are all talented players and would suck to lose, but how much do they help you in that 2017 & 2018 window. Do they help you as much as Sale does? Verdugo, Bellinger, Benintendi and Moncada all play positions that could be filled pretty easily via free agency, something that can’t be said about starting pictching. 2. Sale is an asset that, unless there is a major injury, could be re-traded at a later date. If you are one of the above teams, Sale might cost you your top 5 prospects, but you can keep him for 2 years and trade him for a teams 3 best prospects. So it’s an easier pill to swallow. Increase your probability of winning in the next two years then reevaluate. These GMs have deep pockets, lots of talent, small windows of opportunity and big egos. I think Hahn will get what he wants in the end. -

White Sox lack depth. When you are rebuilding and you can turn one player into more players you do it (as long as it's the right deal). Eaton and Robertson to the Cardinals for Kelly, Bader, Weaver and ~3 others.

Rumor: Dodgers & Sox discussing Sale & Frazier

QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 08:44 PM) Puig sucks and only has two years left on his deal, goes against RH's statement of getting long term pieces. Flip him. Or keep him for 1/2 a year, let him re-establish his value, then trade him. -
QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) I could see the Sox leaking info about the Dodgers to try and get Boston to up their offer. As for Sale on the Dodgers, wouldn't feel bad one bit he would be at the same spring training facility. Could get a close up view of him cutting jersey's into chain people and see yearly diatribes from his pulpit about one thing or another. Would be more entertaining to see that kind of fun stuff if he's not on the team anymore. Yo gusto Urias, De Leon, Bellinger, Verdugo, Barnes. I could see LA giving more of a fair price than Boston. I think everyone is smokin something. No way Sox get Pederson, De Leon, Bellinger AND Urias for Sale and Frazier. Sale is a great baseball player, but he's not worth your entire farm system and a major league CF. I could see De Leon, Bellinger, Verdugo and some younger guys.
