  1. Wishful thinking, but if Liriano could net Teoscar Hernandez, then maybe Gonzalez could get something similar. He has less control but has been worth more WAR than Liriano.
  2. Any guesses as to where he lands?
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 10:47 PM) Their number 5 prospect, Keston Hiura (just drafted), is mlbpipeline's #97 prospect in baseball. By their estimation, I would bet he is far worse than #200. I'm tired of arguing, but a guy that is 7th in WAR for relievers at the end of July should get better than this. Case closed. Economics 101 - Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
  4. I think Kahnle's floor is what the Red Sox paid for Tyler Thornburg, which was Yeison Coca (Red Sox #25), Josh Pennington (Red Sox #22), Mauricio Dubon (Red Sox #7) and Travis Shaw. Obviously we don't want a major leaguer like Shaw, we prefer prospects, but he had 5 years of control and was worth 2.2WAR when he was traded. I think if you look at the teams that are in the race: Brewers, Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees, Tampa, Dodgers, Diamondback, Rockies, Astros, there will be an arms race for sure.
  5. I did a twitter poll. Avi + Robertson for Kelly, Flaherty, Bader https://twitter.com/paulriker/status/886778081511452672 Surprisingly, most say White Sox say no. I actually think the Cardinals would say no. You might be able to get Kelly + some lower level guys like Perez, Alcantara and Hudson before you could get Flaherty and Bader.
  6. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) The way I see it is that he probably doesn't get you much back in trade right now but his upside is so considerable that there's a real chance you end up with an elite reliever who is either useful for our next contending club or has much more trade value in a year or so. If you got a pitcher back for him right now, you'd be very lucky if you get someone who can be as good as he's been this season. Kahnle is under control for 3.5 years and right now is one of the top 10 relievers in all of baseball. I don't think you get Torres or Frazier, but I bet you could get some high ceiling low level prospect like Rutherford or Groome. Yankees have a lot of depth in the OF, they would trade some of it for success today.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 07:34 AM) Trading Kanhle now is dumb because he has more upside as a closer in 2018. Worst case scenario, he fails and still is an effective 7th inning guy with dominant stuff. Who else could be the closer next year? With Burdi down, there's no candidate (other than Fulmer or possibly Lopez) for 2018. Resign Swarzak to close? Beck? Danish? Guerrero and Adams are still perceived to be starters. We've already lost any potential Petricka, Putnam and Jones returns. As well as Jennings, for anything more than a flier. Kahnle's value only goes down from here. If you use him as closer, his value goes down, because his cost through arbitration. I wouldn't trade him just to trade him. If the market undervalues him, then you can keep him in hopes of the market rebounding.
  8. QUOTE (striker @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 10:33 PM) I'm dreaming but Kyle Lewis from Seattle or Carson Kelly from STL would be a nice get. Kahnle + Garcia to the Cardinals
  9. I'm dreaming but Kyle Lewis from Seattle or Carson Kelly from STL would be a nice get.
  10. My dream scenarios: Robertson and Swarzak to Nationals for Kieboom and Soto Abreu to Yankees for Andujar and Florial Frazier and Kahnle to Red Sox for Chavis and Groome Avi to Cardinals for Kelly and Flaherty Depth OF: Jimenez, Robert, Soto, Florial, Basabe, Adolfo, Call, Fisher, May, CA: Kelly, Collins 3B: Andujar, Chavis, Burger, Kieboom 2B: Moncada, Kieboom SP: Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Groome, Cease, Flaherty, Fulmer, Dunning, Hansen, Adams, Stephens
  11. How about the Pirates as a dark horse. We know they had interest in the offseason. Onley keeps speculating the Dodgers wanting McCutchen. How about a three way. Dodgers get McCutchen Pirates get Quintana White Sox get Verdugo, Alvarez, Glasnow, Craig Pirates have an outside chance this year and this helps their chances the next three years. They aren't going to rebuild.
  12. QUOTE (Sockin @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) I know a trade to them is unlikely but man do the Cubs need a pitcher bad. Lackey just went to the DL with plantar fasciitis and Montgomery getting lit up by the Brewers. I think with Q, the White Sox are determined to trade him and they'll take the best offer they can get, even if it's from the Cubs.
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) If Kahnle starts closing games once Robertson is moved, and if successful, then he would look a lot like Thornburg in basic stats. Similar age, too. Probably better held than traded at this point. If he starts closing, he get's more expensive as well, which would impact his trade value.
  14. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 10:04 AM) Doubtful the Red Sox gut their system even more by dealing Devers and Groome. The issue with Devers and Chavis is that neither is currently a very good defensive player, with each having committed 12 errors in 60 games this season. That is not going to cut it at the mlb level. Porcello is struggling, Price is doing well but still could be a concern. The entire rest of their lineup is pretty inexpensive. Quintana helps stabilize their rotation, improves their playoff rotation, is priced very well for the next 3.5 years (key for a team trying to stay under the luxury tax).
  15. On the CSN WhiteSoxTalk podcast, Nightengale from USA Today predicted Robertson going to the Red Sox. Groome is healthy now. He'd be a nice get in a Robertson deal. Groome + Chavis.
  16. Groome is healthy again for the Red Sox. I still see them as a possibility for Q. Devers would be a great headliner in a deal with Groome being the second piece.
  17. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) Nothing against any of those prospects, but I'd want more of 1-2 true blue chip prospects if I am dealing Quintana. Fowler/Andujar/Adams likely would land a team Gray, but it feels light for Quintana. There is no such thing as a blue chip prospect. It's all about hype and luck. Buxton had more hype than Judge, which would you prefer to have now?
  18. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 12:02 PM) Keeping the focus on Quintana, with the deadline soon approaching we can imagine the Yankees, Astros, Dodgers, possibly Red Sox? possibly Cubs? Diamondbacks? Rockies? to be potential suitors for Quintana. I think the Brewers are a wildcard. They have the prospect depth. Whether they would part with either Hader or Brinson is another question.
  19. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) I just don't see a match with the Astros. Outside of Tucker and Bregman, neither of whom appear to be available, there isn't much to be excited about there at all. I'm not trading Quintana for some live arms. I really hope the Sox don't deal with Houston. If I log on one days and see "Q traded to Astros," I am going to cringe, because the return may look good on paper but not actually fit the bill for what this team needs. The Yankees are a much better fit. The Rockies, Dodgers and Cubs would be as well if they were interested. I'd trade for arms. No guarantee all of ours pan out. Fullmer, Giolito and Lopez haven't exactly dominated AAA. I like Perez and Whitley from Houston. I'd take Fisher, Reed, Whitley, Perez (though they probably wouldn't do that). I was actually at a Riverbandits (Astros A team) game Saturday and talked to Whitley's dad. Unrelated, just interesting.
  20. My wishlist: Robertson + Swarzak for Kieboom + Soto + Luzardo Quintana + Kahnle for Schwarber, Jimenez, Cease, Albertos Avi for Kelly + Flaherty Abreu for Rutherford, Andujar, Abreu OF Depth: Rutherford, Robert, Soto, Jimenez, Call, Fisher, Adolfo, Basabe 1B: Schwarber, Davidson 2B: Sanchez, Moncada SS: Anderson, Kieboom 3B: Delmonico, Andujar, Kieboom, Davidson CA: Kelly, Collins SP: Giolito, Flaherty, Lopez, Rodon, Fullmer, Dunning, Hansen, Cease, Guererro, Adams, Stephens, Luzardo, Abreu
  21. QUOTE (Username @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 10:17 AM) Plus, with the emergence of Judge, Hicks, Didi, and company, they don't have room for everyone. Look at their outfield prospects. You can't fit Judge/Hicks/ Frazier/Rutherford/Fowler (and potential FA adds like Harper) all in one outfield. Same goes for 3B - Torres is likely blocking Andujar. As some has said they're also facing some tough roster realities. They'll have a real 40 man roster crunch this offseason, which cost them a few solid prospects last year and stands to hurt them again. The pitching market looks extremely weak this offseason, as well, incentivizing them to land a long-term piece via trade. I really think it's telling that Joel Sherman believes the Yankees will land a cost-controlled starter. I live in Manhattan right now and he's about as plugged in as they get. Yankees fans are also pretty ready to add from what I can tell. This. Cashman isn't gutting his minors. He is trading from organizational depth. He still has Mateo, Torres, Bird, Rutherford, Acevedos, Abreu, Wade in the minors. Abreu give's them another solid veteran to shore up 1B. If they lose Holliday, he can move to DH. Q and Abreu are cost controlled and provide a solid floor of production.
  22. Thoughts on Q + Abreu to Yankees? It would gut their minors but they are facing a 40 man crunch soon. Something like Frazier, Fowler, Andujar, Floria, Austin, Adams
  23. Thoughts? What do you think his excess value is?
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 12:07 PM) Why would Col do that? Hoffman might be more valuable than Q now. Rodgers is a top 5 prospect. Colorado has strong pitching depth for now. Yeah, that might be a stretch. Maybe Marquez. I'd think they would want more veteran presence in the rotation. Depending on that youth come September might be tough. Though they could do a 6 man rotation to stretch it out. Same with the bullpen. Holland could be a late season risk due to not playing for awhile.
