QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 12:07 PM) Why would Col do that? Hoffman might be more valuable than Q now. Rodgers is a top 5 prospect. Colorado has strong pitching depth for now. Yeah, that might be a stretch. Maybe Marquez. I'd think they would want more veteran presence in the rotation. Depending on that youth come September might be tough. Though they could do a 6 man rotation to stretch it out. Same with the bullpen. Holland could be a late season risk due to not playing for awhile.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) I'd be really interested to see how the Rockies felt about bringing Kahnle back since he was an absolute disaster there. Rockies definitely need back end bullpen help, but I'm not sure how much Robertson makes sense for them either in light of his struggles in non-save situations. Also, their farm system has been raided by callups this year. Rodgers, Pint and McMahon (who has been raking this year) are the only headliners that they still have. And Pint has struggled pretty badly. I'd love to see a White Sox/Rockies blockbuster. Q + Kahnle for Rodgers, Dahl, Hoffman, Pint, Murphy

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) I'd rather have Clint Frazier TBH. I get why people like Rutherford (I like him too), but I almost think he's a bit overrated around these parts. If I'm dealing Quintana, I need a positional headliner with a bit less projection. Frazier fits the bill IMO and I could actually see him being available. He won't come cheap and he has had arm and shoulder issues. With Q, your only risk is performance, which I think improves once he can put these rumors behind him.
-
Q will return a top 20 prospect. It will be one of: Jimenez, Robles, Rodgers, Martes, Devers, Brinson If Price isn't producing by the trade deadline, my money would be on Q to Boston. Devers would be a very nice addition to 3B.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 17, 2017 -> 12:48 PM) I'm not that high on Rodgers so I wouldn't be that excited about that package. His home parks in both Asheville (Low A) and Lancaster (High A) are bigger hitter parks than Coors is, and his road numbers are pedestrian at best. Plus doesn't he have questionable defense? I agree with Cameron that he's overrated. Rockies have their own risks they'll be inheriting, a poor performing Quintana and an injury risk in Jones.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2017 -> 08:48 PM) Rockies for Rodgers + is my hope Quintana + Jones for Dahl, Rodgers, Hoffman, Almonte, Pedro Gonzalez.

QUOTE (daggins @ May 15, 2017 -> 10:21 PM) I was just thinking about the Brewers as buyers this season and wondered how they matched up. They have got outfielders for sure - Brinson might be out, but they still have Corey Ray and Brett Phillips and a few others. The Reds system isn't very good, but lucky for them, they should start being very bad soon. How about the Indians as a mystery team. Q would provide them with the stability they need in their oft injured rotation. Zimmer + Mejia as headliners would be very nice.
-
If the division races stay close like they are now, then someone will pay big for Quintana. We could have a huge fire sale as teams will try and separate themselves from the pack. Rebuilding teams like the Reds and Brewers could be buyers for Q

Holland, Gonzalez, Frazier, Swarzak and Cabrera won't bring much back in return individually but could bring back something interesting if paired up. Take the Mets and Red Sox for example, both could use a 3B, SP and teams are always looking for a reliever. So send them Frazier, Holland and Swarzak, or just two of them. Seattle is another team that could use a 1B/DH type, SP and RP.
-
With Swarzak, Gonzalez and Holland, we should be able to get some A, A+ talent. I'd give them Gonzalez/Holland and Swarzak for Justin Dunn, Guereror and a flyer.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) Meadows was never on the table for Quintana as far as we know. If he was I would imagine a deal could be made http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2704212...-about-for-2017 This article suggests Martes is untouchable to the Astros, but that Musgrove, Tucker, Paulino + could be a possible structure. I personally do not think that gets it done. Paulino has flashed plus stuff, but has had quite a bit of trouble staying healthy Tucker is a good prospect who we could use Musgrove I like, but he as well has had injury issues creep up which have limited his innings The final piece would have to be substantial in order for it to be entertained Paulino is too injury prone. I think he's even injured now. Give me Tucker, Reed, Perez, Whitley

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 10:04 AM) https://wahoosonfirst.com/2017/03/29/clevel...-jose-quintana/ Wow^^^ This article made me laugh pretty hard for obvious reasons his offers suck but the concept of trading with Cleveland is interesting. Zimmer, Mejia + would be very nice. This is why if Q continues to stay healthy and pitch well, we could get a kings ransom for him at the trade deadline. Imagine the desperation for teams with limited windows.
-
I don't blame Luhnow for balking at the Sox asking price. If he waits until the trade deadline, his trade chips çould be more valuable. His rotation is good enough to get him to the trade deadline and reassess. I also don't blame him for wanting to keep Martes. He and his staff are obviously skilled at talent evaluation.
-
If I were Huntington I'd send Meadows for Q. It's not just about 7 years of Meadows, it's about competing in the small window you have with McCutchen and Cole. You can always unload Cole, McCutchen and even Q at the 2018 deadline if you are out of it. The Astros have loads of talent. I'd trade with them even if I couldn't get both Martes and Tucker. Give me Perez, Whitley, Laureano, Hernandez, M. Sierra

I think the Rockies could beat any Yankees offer with Rodgers, Pint, Tapia. Which I'd take over Frazier, Rutherford, +

QUOTE (rcpweiner @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 03:46 PM) Just spitballing here: If we're to use Fangraphs' ballparking of Quintana's surplus value ($80 to $90 million), and then compare that to today's "Valuing the 2017 Top Prospects" list, then what seems to make sense would be something along the lines of: Clint Frazier ($38M), Blake Rutherford ($38M), and Justus Sheffield ($14M). Maybe another lottery ticket to boot. Something like that seems right to me. (Meanwhile, my personal favorite move would be to find a way to pry Austin Meadows ($70M) and Glasnow ($22M) from the Pirates, but it'd likely be just those two.) (Also: The other crazy thing is we somehow got $129M back plus Basabe / Diaz for Sale.) I don't think that prospect $ is surplus value, so you have to add more

Robertson will be worth a haul at the trade deadline. Once teams know they are in the race, they'll pay a premium for that extra bullpen arm. I wouldn't rush a trade just to get something done. Severino is nice but not nearly enough to entice me. Miller and Chapman aren't that far ahead of Robertson in value IMO (2015 Robertson). They both brought back top 20 prospects. Severino isn't even a consensus top 10 prospect in the Nationals system.

A couple Pirates prospect reads http://m.milb.com/news/article/20170130214714904/ http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/pitt...MQVlj2CPVBpB.97 Glasnow has pretty sick minor league numbers. Better than Giolito. If he finds control he could be filthy. I really like Brault. Lefty, 90-92 FB, plus change, plus control. Teach him a cutter and you have Buehrle/Danks 2.0

I listened to the Talking Stros podcast just to hear what they had to say about Quintana. They had Jim Callis on to discuss too. Callis said Quintana is underated, then later called him a "solid #3" starter. He sees Martes ceiling as a #2. He wouldn't empty the cubbard for Quintana. They hosts then discussed the Archer proposal (Martes, Tucker, Pauline +2 more prospects). Then he proposed Fisher, Paulino, Moran + 75th pick for Quintana. I tweeted....If Martes, Tucker, Pauline +2 isn't enough for Archer, then that is my starting point for Quintana.
-
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 4, 2017 -> 12:12 AM) Wow. Keller's ceiling is much more projectable and much higher than Whitley or Perez at this point. In fact, it's higher than most pitching prospects in the minors right now. Cooper and Manuel from Baseball America were big on Keller in the Pirates podcast. BA ranked Keller higher than Glasnow. They love Keller's control and repertoire. Glasnow will be a stud but only if he gains control.
-
I won't complain if we get Reed but I don't care about getting him. I'd much rather have one of their pitchers, outfielders, Sierra or Stubbs/Stassi. Napoli and Carter are 1B and still available on 2/3. Tells you what the market thinks of sluggers. Plus, Callis (and data) say Reed can't hit LHP.
-
If they won't deal Martes, I'd do. Tucker, Perez, Whitley, Stubbs, Sierra
-
If the Rays turned down Martes, Tucker, Paulino, +2 prospects for Archer, then that would be my starting point for Quintana, except I don't want Paulino. I listened to the TalkingStros podcast with Jim Callis. Callis called Quintana underated one moment, then called him a solid #3 another. And his job is to evaluate players for a living. The host suggested Fisher, Paulino, Moran and the #75 pick. Q would out perform that.

Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 2m The Texas #Rangers suddenly have increased their pursuit for #WhiteSox ace Jose Quintana, but still unknown whether they will pull off deal.

Nate Jones is 31 and has Tommy John surgery. Giles was 26 when he was traded and a clean bill of health. Jones is cost effective but will be 35 in the last year of his contract. If we could get the Giles deal great. That being said, if you sell at the trade deadline, it's possible you get more.
