  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) Where are you going to play Franklin, with this trade? You're dealing Ramirez as well? Ackley's a natural 2B, but he has been playing LF for the Mariners. Do you honestly want someone who hits like Gordon Beckham playing a corner OF spot? YIKES. Franklin would be fine if he could play SS everyday, but he's probably better suited for 2B or 3B. We have five million 2B prospects, so this whole thing doesn't make much sense. He's kind of like Dan Uggla-Lite. We do have a ton of infield prospects, so you'd have to rely on your scouts to help you determine who you'd rather have at 2B. Use some of those prospects to acquire pitching or catching.

He's kind of like Dan Uggla-Lite. I could be misinterpreting this data, but this is the justification Ackley LF 14.4 UZR/150, Projection: 1.5WAR, 10% BB rate. His offensive WAR projections are close to De Aza and Viciedo. Franklin 2B 53 UZR/150, Projection: 3WAR, 12% BB rate De Aza LF .4 UZR/150, Projection: 2-2.5 WAR 8% BB rate Viciedo RF -13.3 UZR/150, Projection: .5 WAR 6% BB rate Beckham 2B -10.6 UZR/150, Projection: 1 WAR 8% BB rate
  3. I'm intrigued by both Ackley and Franklin. Both have raked in the minors but haven't gotten over that hump in the majors. They both have good BB rates, would be upgrades defensively and would cost less. How about De Aza and Viciedo for Ackley and Franklin? Then ship Beckham to Yankees for Murphy. You could use our infield surplus to try and get a catcher or pitching.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 09:44 AM) They're not going to give you Stroman and Daniel Norris. In all likelihood, you're not even going to get one of those guys. You might get Sanchez, but how does that help the White Sox, exactly? The Blue Jays weren't willing to give up EITHER Stroman or Norris straight up for Samardzijia, let alone both of them. I disagree. I think you could get Sanchez and one of Stroman/Norris for Quintana. Quintana is better than Samardzjia, is 25 vs. 29 and is controlled through 2018. Sox might have to throw in a low level pitching prospect to go back but I think the Jays make that move. If I'm Hahn I wouldn't do it. You know what you are going to get from Quintana and Stroman and Norris are still question marks. The White Sox don't need more un-projectionable players when they have a great duo in Abreu and Sale to build around.
  5. I'd keep Danks. 1. You don't sell low. 2. The Sox wouldn't get much for him and they don't have anyone in the minors to replace him. 3. You aren't going to get much with the money you save and the Sox don't need the money. 4. He's progressively gotten better.
  6. 1. Gillaspie. I'd rather have defense than offense at 3B, so I don't want him playing there. 2. Ramirez has reached his peak, so I'd sell on him. 3. I can't stand Beckham. I'd rather see Sanchez, Johnson, Semien at 2B. 4. De Aza is on the wrong side of thirty and we only have 1.5 years left of him so I'd sell. 5. Flowers doesn't make enough contact. Don't want him. 6. Viciedo sucks at offense and defense. Don't want him. I'd focus on increasing BB%, decreasing K%, improving defense and improving starting pitching. 1. Viciedo for Moustakas. Comparable control time. KC needs offense. 2. Ramirez for Carlos Martinez. 3. Davidson & Beck for Grandal. 4. Dunn & De Aza to Mariners for Carson Smith and Ackley 5. Beckham to NYY for Manny Banuelos CF Eaton DH Gillaspie 1B Abreu RF A. Garcia CA Grandal 2B Sanchez 3B Moustakas LF Ackley SS L. Garcia SP Sale SP Shields SP Quintana SP E. 7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 04:16 AM) I think this all depends on how serious they are about keeping Uribe and Hanley Ramirez around. Remember, they've already sunk $28 million into 2B Alexander Guerrero (Olivo biting victim). And, if you're the Dodgers and you have a $200 million payroll, are you really going to roll the dice on Conor Gillaspie, Marcus Semien, Carlos Sanchez or Micah Johnson to hold down a starting infield position? I sincerely doubt it. That kind of move isn't going to help you make up ground on the Giants. At best, it's lateral. They're going to try to trade you Crawford/Ethier/Kemp and a large subsidy before they give up Pederson. Maybe we eat one of those salaries in order to also acquire Pederson.
  8. Why it might not happen Risk. The high risk, high reward of Tanaka is too much for the Sox to take on right now. If they had less question marks (pretty much everyone but Sale is a question mark), then you could assume some of that risk. This is precisely why the Angels won't pursue him either. Why it could happen Long term commitments. 5 players in 2015, 3 players in 2016 & 2017. Sox have financial flexibility. Buzz. One of the reasons I love this team is they are entertaining. They've created a lot of buzz with the moves they've made so far. Tanaka would just add to it. I think he'd boost attendance a ton every 5 days a well.
  9. Gillaspie and Semien draw more walks than Middlebrooks. Semien can play SS as well. So the two options we have are > Middlebrooks IMO
  10. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) Where does Viciedo play if you're starting De Aza in LF? I'm not a big Dayan fan, but he has the potential to be a part of the future of this franchise. De Aza on the other hand isn't a part of the future because of his age and contract. Can't take away AB's from Viciedo at this point. Especially since this could/should be his make or break year with the tam. Of our four outfielders, De Aza is the only proven one. Garcia, Viciedo and Eaton all still have something to prove. It would be nice to have one non question mark in our outfield.
  11. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 08:42 AM) $ De Aza makes less than he's worth.
  12. 1. I like Daniel Murphy but 2B is probably our deepest position from an organizational depth perspective: Beckham, Semein, Garcia, Sanchez can all play that position. 2. I don't know why everyone wants to trade De Aza. I think putting him in LF would improve our defense, putting him in the two whole would improve the top of our lineup. Plus he can drive in runs. Unless it's a no brainer trade, I'm keeping De Aza and Viciedo.
  13. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) Santiago for Brown almost makes too much sense. Both players are young with upside, both have significant warts, and both are controllable thru 2017. The Phils need pitching and we need lefty bats. He's a lousy defender but so is our current option. I'd rather have Santiago
  14. How about my other moves?
  15. Sale for Owings, Davidson and Skaggs Reed & Santiago for Lucroy Beckham for Gardner Ramirez for Daniel Murphy Sign Tanaka CF Gardner 2B Murphy C Lucroy 1B Abreu DH Dunn/Konerko RF Garcia 3B Davidson SS Owings LF DeAza SP Quintana SP Tanaka SP Danks SP Johnson SP Skaggs
  16. Gardner for Beckham straight up. They need a 2B. Gardner is better but they get 2 years of Gordon.
  17. I'll take Sox 5 KC 3 http://www.fanpredictions.com/mlb/gamescores.asp?gameid=24 Pick to click: Beckham.

I think everyone assumes you start the season with the players you plan to end the season with and that's not necessarily how it works. Sure we have question marks but we should let things play out and get some of those questions answered with the players we have before we start making huge moves. That being said, play this team as is and assess mid year as to what we need. Our starting pitching is good and should keep us in most ball games. If they can't, we are screwed anyhow. Mid year you'll have most of your questions answered, more players will be available then there are now and the asking price for some will come down.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 10:42 AM) I don't even think the Baltimore trade is realistic. You can talk about Viciedo's future value all you want, but Markakis is a really good hitter. Considering Baltimore just won the Wild Card, they'd need more than Viciedo and a free agent to be Gavin Floyd. Arrietta is a guy that could be acquired, but he's not a major piece either. You are right though. That trade is the closest one to being possible. So if you are Baltimore's GM, what more do you ask for? The other thing you don't mention is Markakis's salary. You are saving money which could be spent elsewhere. You could extend Floyd and shift your strength from RF to SP.
  20. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 10:35 AM) None of those trades will happen. Everyone doing these Xbox trades are just wasting their own time. You replying to my xbox trade was not a waste at all.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 10:24 AM) And literally none of the other teams would make those trades Those would just be the starting points. AZ would need more. I'm sure WAS would need more.
  22. I love trade speculation. Floyd & Viciedo to Orioles for Markakis and Arietta. Flip Arietta to WAS for Renden. Ramirez to AZ, Upton & Hector Santiago to TX, Profar to CHW. Beckham to Seattle for Ackley. Sign Soriano 2/$24m. Strengthen bullpen. Get Younger. Get Left Handed. CF De Aza (L) LF Markakis (L) RF Rios ® DH Konerko ® 1B Dunn (L) 2B Ackley (S) CA Flowers ® 3B Renden ® SS Profar (S) SP Peavy SP Danks SP Sale SP Quintana SP Castro/Molina/Free Agent CL Soriano RP Thornton RP Jones RP Crain RP Reed RP Veal RP Omogrosso I could go on and on.
  23. With Werth, Span and Harper in the outfield, Morse at 1st and Zimmerman locked up at 3rd, maybe Anthony Rendon is available.
  24. They need to drop a giant baseball (times square style) at 4pm EST.
