  1. What does everyone thing of Michael Bowden from the Red Sox as a starting pitching candidate? Sounds like a KW target, being a former first round draft pick that lost hype. He has 4 solid pitches according to this scouting report http://soxprospects.com/players/bowden-michael.htm I'm thinking we could get him and a lower level prospect for Quentin or Bowden could be part of a Danks/Floyd package. Thoughts?
  2. The most interesting ones to me are Medlen and Surkamp. If you could find 2 2.5-3WAR pitchers out of that group then your rotation becomes inexpensive enough to sign/trade for 1 or 2 studs to head the rotation. I see no problem with stocking up with #3-#5 starter prospects. If you get 4 of them and 2 of them pan out as starters then I think you've made progress. The challenge will be finding your #1 and #2 starters.
  3. Medlen http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_...79&c_id=mlb Hoover Hembree

  5. Anyone read the ESPN insider trade suggestions for the Sox?
  6. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) Also, Jon Heyman is reporting it as well.. I don't believe that the Rays will trade him Sure you don't mean Wade Davis?
  7. @globlair Beckham to Blue Jays for Snider?
  8. I think it's funny how Yankees fans and scouts hype up Banuelos and he had a WHIP of like 1.6 last year. While Molina is "at best a #3 or #4 starter" and he had a WHIP close to 1.
  9. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) This is the last full day of the winter meetings and it has been pretty damn boring so far.. I thought there would be more trades and signings.. Buehrle and Wilson signing will drive up the demand for Floyd and Danks. Until they sign, you won't see these two traded (if they even get traded).
  10. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Dec 3, 2011 -> 06:25 AM) Thought I'd give this offseason a shot... Gavin Floyd and Matt Thornton to CIN for Homer Bailey(SP) and Yonder Alonso(1B) I think I'd rather havetrvis wood over bailey
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 2, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) Pretty much. Matt Moore? Really? It's not completely unrealistic. I'm offering two good prospects for him.
  12. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 2, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) Ha, I was following you through #1 and #2. Was trying to figure out how #3 made sense at all for the Padres, who just lost Heath Bell, and then I started laughing when Matt Moore got involved. Crain is they're new closer
  13. Move #1 Sergio Santos and Gavin Floyd to the Reds for Yonder Alonso and Yasmani Grandal. Move #2 Matt Thornton, John Danks and cash to the Yankees for Dellin Betances and Austin Romine Move #3 Carlos Quentin, Jesse Crain and cash to the Padres for Luke Gregerson and Ernesto Frieri Move #4 Yonder Alonso and Dellin Betances to Rays for Matt Moore Move #5 AJ Pierzynski and Cash to the Dodgers for Allen Webster Move #6 Re-sign Buehrle 3 years $42m Starting Rotation Mark Buehrle Jake Peavy Matt Moore Phil Humber Chris Sale Bullpen Jason Frasor Will Ohman Luke Gregerson Ernesto Frieri Dylan Axelrod Zach Stewart Addison Reed Lineup LF De Aza 2B Beckham DH Dunn 1B Konerko SS Ramirez CF Rios RF Viciedo C Flowers 3B Morel Bench Austin Romine Brent Lillibridge Ozzie Martinez Minors Yasmani Grandal Overview We shed about $22m from the payroll and cut ticket prices 10% more. Tell me how much you love this plan now.
  14. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 01:47 AM) Daniel Hudson + David Holmberg + Edwin Jackson + Mark Teahen = Zach Stewart + Jason Frasor + tons of money saved Actually it should be Daniel Hudson + David Holmberg = Edwin Jackson - Mark Teahen = Zach Stewart + Jason Frasor
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) #1) if Jon Garland is his upside, then he better be in the f***ing bullpen #2) if you see a 3.70-4.20 ERA, then you are not looking at Jon Garland #3) you are not wrong in a possible Jon Garland connection #4) Jon Garland's upside was Kevin Brown #5) if Jon Garland is his upside, then he NEEDS to be in the f***ing bullpen I want to know what you think of Stewart, not what you think of my review.
  16. I've been bored out of my mind (hopefully Kenny changes that next week) so I started doing some reading online about Zach Stewart and watching some video. Sounds like a lot of scouting reports have him pegged at a #3-#4 starter at best, some even think he'll be nothing more than a long reliever. I've also read that he hasn't logged a lot of innings in a starting role. I watched some video of him and it looks like he has some good velocity 92-94 and run on his fastball and has a good biting slider. It sounds like he needs work on his change up. I'm thinking this might be one of those under rated moves by Kenny that pans out in the long run. I'm thinking Jon Garland as Stewart's upside. 180-200 innings of about 3.70-4.20 ERA. I'm wondering if a cutter might be on the horizon for him as well. What are your thoughts on Stewart?
  17. You guys who don't think we can trade Dunn and Rios, I have two words for you VERNON WELLS How much of his salary did Toronto eat? $5m of the $86 mill owed to him over 4 years. Dunn has 3 years and is owed $44m Rios has 3 years and is owed $37m You do the math. Dunn and Rios have less risk in the form of years and the form of money.
  18. 4yr $56m I'd rather have Buehrle than Danks. Danks could bring us back a good haul of prospects, Buehrle "might" bring us back a draft pick. Danks will cost more. Danks is a risk to walk.
  19. Great title. How high can your expectations be even with a veteran manager? 5 of the regulars batted under .260 for f$#@ sake. 3 of them batted .230 or under. Our highest paid pitcher was our worst.
  20. If I'm a national league team, I'd be drooling over Danks and Floyd. If the deal is sweet enough, I'm sure you could get rid of Rios, Dunn or Peavy with Quentin, Danks or Floyd.
  21. I'd go a max of 4 years. Danks is young enough he might bite on that. I would think more like the 4/56 that Buehrle got. If we did this though Floyd and or Quentin would probably have to be traded. Or Buehrle not re-signed. It's too bad Kenny made some bad spending decisions.
  22. 1. Peavy would have to waive his no trade clause and he wouldn't. 2. Peavy has yet to throw a pitch in the majors this year and is going to make over $16m the next two years. This would be worse than falling for a ponzie scheme.
  23. 1. Kenny Williams job is to field a good team. After that it's up to the team to win. I don't fault Kenny for this team not winning. Do you think Theo Epstein or Terry Francona are at risk at losing their jobs? No. 2. Baseball is a game of peaks and valleys. It's the only sport where losing 62 games is awesome. We have to cope with the losses. This team still has a ability to win. 3. All you have to do first is win the division. The Cardinals won the central in 2006(?) with like 83 wins and won the world series. We suck right now but this division is still winnable.
  24. I hope Buehrle retires. I'm sure he could get a job throwing BP for some team.
