QUOTE (striker @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 10:55 AM) I think we need another #1 or #2 starter, unless we go to a 6 man rotation. None of Floyd, Quintana, Liriano, Peavy, Humber and Sale have fatigue and injury written all over them. I also think we have a small window of opportunity to win. Pierzynski and Peavy are free agents. Floyd and Youkilis have options.- White Sox Rumor Catch-All

Well, I screwed this up. Can the mods make the options multi?- Who are your choices for the last three bullpen spots?
I'm going with Hector Santiago, Brian Bruney and Nate Jones. Santiago being the long man/spot starter.- Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
@FarrellBall Hearing Nadir Mohamed pulled the plug on the Floyd deal as ownership wasn't willing to spend anymore money on payroll.. #Jays #FarrellBall- Baseball America's Top 10 White Sox Prospects
The problem I see with BA, Baseball Prospectus, Baseball Intellect, etc. rating prospects is it's all opinion based. What the "experts" think. This list is what the "expert" Phil Rogers thinks. It's no different then CNN or FoxNews "analysts". These are people that know a little bit more than us. What is lacking are measures. I use 2005 as just a base point, you could use any date. Draft Capabilities 1. Of all the White Sox draft picks since 2005, how many are on major league rosters right now. 2. What is the total WAR of all of the White Sox draft picks since 2005. Minor League Depth 1. Of all the players that played for the White Sox minor league affiliates, how many are on major league rosters right now. 2. Of all the players that came through the White Sox minor league system, what is their total WAR. Major League Team Contribution 1. Of the White Sox roster, what percentage was drafted by the White Sox (Sale, Beckham, Morel, Reed, etc.) 2. Of the White Sox roster, what percentage were signed as minor league free agents (Humber) 3. Of the White Sox roster, what percentage were international free agents (Ramirez, Viciedo) 4. What were the total WAR for 1,2,3 These are measure that help you tell how successful a team drafts, scouts and produces talent. I still enjoy reading the "experts" opinions but they are exactly that, opinions. I prefer facts to measure performance.- Baseball America's Top 10 White Sox Prospects
http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...12/2612801.html- My patience is running out with KW
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) I've never been sold on DeAza being a starting OF either, but I believe the way he played last year he at least deserves a shot. I also believe that KW is gonna make a legit run at Cespedes. In either case we do have Lillibridge who is a more than adequate 4th outfielder. I think we have enough arms in the minors to fill out the bullpen, but I imagine KW will throw out a couple minor league deals to some older relievers at the end of the road hoping they can find a little magic. No specific names come to mind, but that's the kind of thing he likes to do. I'd rather take my chances with De Aza then sign Cespedes. With Rios, Peavy and Dunn unable to earn their money, the White Sox can risk spending money on Cespedes. IMO- Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 08:42 AM) Waiting on Darvish would be a mistake. If the Rangers can't get him signed, that just means another possible suitor for Floyd. Most likely, they are still in the running for Garza and won't turn to Floyd or other options until that gets settled. Unfortunately for KW, Garza is probably hindering his ability to move Floyd. Hopefully Epstein hurries the f*** up. Not to mention Oswalt, Kudora and Jackson are all still unsigned.- Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 07:36 AM) Sigh. If this is gonna happen then AA better get his act together and pull the trigger before the Sox do somethig else with the guy he'd like. Maybe AA is waiting on some other dominoes to fall, which in turn are waiting on other dominoes: Darvish (TEX), Fielder (TOR/WAS/TEX), Garza (TEX/TOR/DET).- Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) At the time of draft everyone was salivating over him, IIRC. I read somewhere that's he's been learning a cutter and that has lead to his drop in stock. The writer suggested that if he dropped his cutter he'd rebound.- Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) 100 days until Peavy beats Darvish. 1 month until Soxfest About 6 weeks until Pitchers/Catches report- k0na breaks story on Danks 5 years/$65mil ext...Heyman confirms
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 07:38 PM) Don't you guys think it's a little bit suspicious that Danks is settling for only like $13 million per when he could get $15 million per next off-season? It could be 65going guaranteed. So the 5thoffice year could be a 18m option with a 3m buyout. Making it 4a yrs 62m, which is 15.5 per year. Which is 7mto more in 2012the than what he'd make in arbitration.- 2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
What does everyone thing of Michael Bowden from the Red Sox as a starting pitching candidate? Sounds like a KW target, being a former first round draft pick that lost hype. He has 4 solid pitches according to this scouting report http://soxprospects.com/players/bowden-michael.htm I'm thinking we could get him and a lower level prospect for Quentin or Bowden could be part of a Danks/Floyd package. Thoughts?- 2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
The most interesting ones to me are Medlen and Surkamp. If you could find 2 2.5-3WAR pitchers out of that group then your rotation becomes inexpensive enough to sign/trade for 1 or 2 studs to head the rotation. I see no problem with stocking up with #3-#5 starter prospects. If you get 4 of them and 2 of them pan out as starters then I think you've made progress. The challenge will be finding your #1 and #2 starters.- 2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
