As much as I hate to watch the Sox right now, they definitely aren't out of it. Our record was alot better this time last year but look how it ended. Minnesota was like 10 games under .500 last year and won the division, the best division in baseball. Our pitching is good. Our hitting will come around. Relax, put the gun down.

Everyone knows you don't throw three straight fastballs, especially if you are up 0-2. The batter has his timing down by then. Nice call AJ.

QUOTE(striker62704 @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:20 AM) I hate Ozzie and his righty vs. righty, lefty vs. lefty pitching matchups, and his right vs. lefty, lefty vs. righty batting matchups. That's not how it works ozzie. Get a f398ing clue. I rest my case.

I think we can all tell that our pitching scouts are good and our outfielder scouts suck: Jeremy Reed, Brian Anderson, Ryan Sweeney, Chris Young, Joe Borchard. If there is any good that comes out of Pods and Thome's injury, it's that one of our prospects steps up. If they don't then we know that weakness come the offseason.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) It's amazing what has taken place all thanks to that Vazquez trade. I know we could really use Young and his .192 batting average. Man, imagine him and Jeremy Reed batting back to back. Wow.

I say we bring up Josh Fields. I like the pop he brings to the plate. Bat him low in the lineup. Erstad Iguchi Dye Kornerko Pierzinski Crede Mackoviak Fields Uribe

I can't stand listening to Hawk and DJ giving Weaver so much credit. He sucks. Our hitters just suck more.

This is the most pathetic display of hitting I have ever seen. The highest batting average in today's lineup was .250. The next highest is .242. PATHETIC. Something needs to be done. Our pitching is now our strength and our hitting is garbage. This makes me sick.

Opening Day: White Sox vs. Indians, 4/2/07 (L)

I thought Contreras threw the ball well. He just couldn't get his splitter over or locate his fastball. He'll come back around. -

1. I feel more comfortable with Erstad at the plate but with BA in the field. But Erstad is better in the field than BA is with the bat, so Erstad wins. 2. If Floyd can consistently throw strikes he will be a nasty major league pitcher. Lively fastball with movement and a sharp curve. Just needs to throw strikes. Danks earned the #5 spot. He's going to be good but he too needs to throw strikes. I'm sure he'll be nervous his first start so I don't have to high expectations for him in the beginning. 3. Neither Sisco, Aardsma, Masset or Haeger did good. Choosing that bullpen spot was like the 2004 Presidential Election, everyone sucked but who sucked the least. Logan losing out was like the 2000 Presidential Election. Logan (Gore) was the better candidate but the voters were dumb so he lost. 4. Its sucks we already lost Hall, especially since he had such a nice spring. Using one of the rookies is the best option right now until we find the real NEED for a good backup.

GAME THREAD: LAAAAAAAAAAA vs Sox, 3:05pm
striker replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2007 Season in Review
I think I'm going to sit this season out. Our starters and relievers suck. Our "flamethrowing" bullpen tops out at 92mph, from what I've seen. -
The article mentioned how Garcia was topping out at 85mph. I'm glad KW is the GM and not some of the nay saying posters who didn't like that trade.
-
I wouldn't put too much emphasis on todays box score. Althought Danks's numbers looked better, neither looked too impressive. The weather was so bad its hard to judge. What I believe gives Danks the edge over Floyd is his consistency and ability to throw strikes. Floyd probably has better stuff but he seems to be all over the place. If you took 6 pitches from Floyd he would probably walk you everytime. I do think Danks is going to win the #5 spot but I think if Floyd can gain some control in the minors he could be a really good pitcher. I think Floyd was a good pickup and Freddy is falling apart, so I'm still liking that trade.
-
If Floyd gets the #5 spot his games will take 5 hrs.
-
I don't care how hard Danks got hit, he didn't walk anyone. Floyd walks the first batter. I can't stand that.
-
The umpire squeezed Danks and Wells. No excuse though. You still have to pitch above it.
-
What a stud Danks is. Sorry Gavin. Good luck in AAA.
-
Ozzie and KW emphasize how they want their pitchers to throw strikers. Heath Phillips did just that and I think he's a very good option as a pitcher. The Sox appear to not take him seriously, even though he did better than Floyd. Could it be because he doesn't throw hard? Or is it because Floyd and Danks got all the press because they were acquired via trade? If I was a rival GM in need of pitching I would come after Phillips. Thoughts?

I know its spring training but our relievers (Jenks, Thornton, Macdougal, Sisco, Logan) have been lights out. Masset has been good too. I've been really impressed with Danks and Gonzalez, but haven't seen Floyd or Masset pitch. The jury is still out on Aardsma. Our starters appear to be solid, and I'm sure they will get better as the spring progresses. I love the fact that KW locked up Vazquez for 3 more years. Everyone has been freaking out about it but the key is the no trade clause. What KW did is lock a talented (though the numbers don't show it) pitcher up for the next 4 years for a very reasonable price (considering the market). This gives him leverage with the most important position in baseball, pitching. KW has turn into an "arms dealer" with all the pitchers he has. Thats why the door is still open for Buehrle. KW won't pass up good arms for the right price. I'm pumped baby.

Epstein and Minaya are overrated. Hendry sucks. He shouldn't even be on the list at all.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 12:56 AM) Fixed. :-) It is nice to see these guys in action. Danks looks like the real deal, and Floyd was not that bad either. I wouldn't mind having Danks or Floyd as the 5th starter and Haeger in the bullpen to spot start or come in for long relief. He would actually be the 6th starter (if needed). It would be hilarious to sandwich Haeger's knuckler in the bullpen between Sisco, Mac, or Thornton, then close with Jenks. Hitters would have a hell of a time adjusting from 65 mph knucklers to 100 mph fastballs. Haeger would never see the same batters as Thornton, Jenks & MacDougal. Assuming they don't allow any baserunners, 3 different batters would come up in the past 3 innings.

From what I saw today I really liked Danks. He had great stuff and a real smooth delivery. Gio didn't look so smooth but has good stuff. He needs at least another year in the majors and really needs to work on his changeup. Haeger didn't have a good outing but I still like him as a 5th starter or long relief/spot starter. He did awesome last year after getting called back up so you know he can get the job done. I didn't see how Floyd looked yesterday so I'm still up in the air with him, Masset also. I defininitely like Danks more than McCarthy, so Masset is just a plus. I don't miss Freddy.
