  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) This is one of those things that makes me feel old. I was a teen when all of this was going on, but a lot of people on here weren't even born yet. Ugh. I was 7 when The Cell opened. I have NO memory of any of this. Heck, I was technically a "Cubs fan" until 1990.
  2. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) SI_JonHeyman #dodgers have mentioned a few names of prospects that interest them. but straight waiver claim still seems most likely. #manny 3 minutes ago could the Sox trade prospects for cash later as a "follow up" trade.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:11 PM) So if you read the details, you will find that the real reason this happened was basically a big f***-up. Here is how it worked... --Sox threaten to move to Florida --After much tribulation, they say if they get state money, they may move to Addison --State legislature works out a last minute deal to give money to the ISA to build the park --Part of the negotiation was making sure the park stayed in the current location, more or less - to assure this, the bill said it had to be at 35th and Shields --In order to avoid going back to the IL House and risk not only delays but the possibility of not even getting the money, the Sox (Jerry) decide they have to follow the letter of the law, and make sure its address is actually at 35th and Shields All this could have been avoided if the bill had simply said something like "stadium must stand within 3300-3800 and Dan Ryan-RR tracks". ahhh ok. Well, that makes a lot of sense. So, maybe management WANTED it to be pointed north, but to be safe they pointed it south east. interesting.
  4. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) Isn't Baltimore older than the cell? Both broke ground in 1989, but the Cell opened in 1991, and Camden in 1992. However, i think The Cell was designed in 1986 while Camden was probably a year or 2 later.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) But we as taxpayers deserved better. For $160 million it's a pretty nice park. Maybe they should have had a little more "vision" like Cleveland and Baltimore. They just built it 2-4 years too soon.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) You obviously don't travel much to see other stadiums.Oh, dont get me wrong. There are some SPECTACULAR fields around the country. I absolutely LOVE Coors Field, been there...Love it. But, in the end, you're there to watch a game, not marvel at the park. Beautiful and spectacular parks only draw for short period of time if the team is bad.
  7. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) Time for a new stadium. Na. I really like The Cell. I've never had a problem with it being "vanilla" or "not quirky enough". I've loved it since the day it was opened.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) http://www.flyingsock.com/OldComiskey/Progress.htm Apparently, it was also a money stipulation. ummm..... assuming it's true, I never knew that New Comiskey was designed for Addison and then "wedged" into the site south of the old park. I assume that is why the ramps are on the outside of the park?
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 12:35 PM) So the address is still 35th and Shields. that was really the deciding factor??
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) I'm pretty certain that stadiums have to point a certain way due to where the sun goes down? Wrigley is pointed North-East
  11. I'm sure this has been answered before: Why is US Cellular Field pointed SE instead of N or NE towards the skyline of Chicago? There's probably a logistical reason, but I've never read it.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) Link I think they kind of have to reinstate the credit. PS: I'm still a bit upset we didnt qualify for it when we bough our townhome earlier this year. Apparently my dad and I missed the fine print that you cant buy a house off of a family member and get the tax credit. (My parents owned the town home, and we had been renting it from them for a year before buying it)
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 09:02 AM) To be honest, I thought they were just going to give it to Conan. Perhaps they would've if all of that stuff happened more recently. And I really can't argue with The Daily Show winning again. This past year was a pretty good one for them. What NBC did to Conan sucked, and I am a huge Conan fan, but the Daily Show is so damn good day in and day out.
  14. Paul Allen Files Patent Lawsuits Against Entire Web … Except Microsoft An interesting, if not far fetched, theory was presented by Adam Curry: Allen is bring this lawsuit HOPING that he gets defeated as an attempt to put a major dent in the credibility and existence of software patents.
  15. Can we just forfeit the season now so I don't have to endure another season of crap?
  16. If you are a slimy, smarmy Governor, are you required by law to hire a slimy, smarmy lawyer? He did a good job if so!
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) I feel that the quote in Lostfan's sig is the only appropriate response to that detailed argument. One of my favorite movie quotes of all time.
  18. Great Tweet: "If Glenn Beck really was about restoring honor maybe he should tell the people in the crowd to stop handing out pictures of Obama=Hitler"
  19. So, apparently we agreed to let a group of Tea Partyiers park their cars in our back (never used) parking lot while they load four buses to drive to Washington. I feel obligated to walk around with an "Obama is a socialist Muslim" sign. Edit: Apparently they are headed to Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor Rally in Washington DC on Saturday.
  20. @SI_JonHeyman - word is, multiple teams actually claimed man. now who got the claim?
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:24 PM) sounds like KW is trying to get an arm too, so he should just stop trying to improve the offense all together because Putz and Thorton got hurt? I've said for a while I dont think the Sox need to add a bat.
  22. I eagerly await Manny taking the mound for his first relief outing.
  23. OUCH! This is going to sting: Marlins execs funneled cash to themselves
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:19 AM) The thing is, as advanced and successful that Tommy John surgery has become, he can still come back in 2012 and live up to all the hype and more. Look at the list of the guys that have had it and come back: Carpenter, J. Soria, Josh Johnson, Tim Hudson, R. Soriano, Arthur Rhodes, Billy Wagner Plus, look how good he pitched with the injured arm, imagine it healthy! The problems you can also make a list of pitchers who were never the same. It's a complete unknown.
