QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 05:29 PM) Rose's contract says 6.9million/6yr right now. Are you telling me it spikes to almost 3 times as much by next year? Dude, he just signed a 5-year, like $98 million dollar contract extension 6 months ago.
-
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 05:24 PM) How so? Mirotic on a rookie contract? Deng/Noah/Rose is 31 million right now. And Taj won't need to be extended for 2 more years Rose's contract spikes big time starting next year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 05:20 PM) You know what making moves just to make moves reminds me of? It's what Orlando's spent the last 5 years doing or what Cleveland was doing trying to make James happy. They had a roster that was a step below championship caliber, and if they stayed pat they had an outside shot at things. But that wasnt' enough to keep their star happy or really push themselves into a championship team. So what did they start doing? They started gambling...taking the assets they had and trying to turn them into something that could help. That's why Cleveland wound up with Shaq. That's why Orlando wound up trading for Turkoglu again. Thats' why Orlando wound up trading for Arenas. That's why Orlando traded for Vince Carter. They had to make a move somehow, but they didn't have assets to trade...so they did the big contract for big contract swap. That's right where the Bulls are now. They simply don't have the assets to make a major deal. They won't have a top 10 pick until 2015+, the would have difficulty coming up with an expiring deal (although they could hypothetically do so if they packaged Hamilton, Korver, and Watson), and if they tried to turn the expiring they have into something, it'd involve taking on something like Joe Johnson's awful contract. To be fair, Cleveland and Orlando were trying to appease their superstars (aka make them happy or we lose them). Rose is not going anywhere for a long time. The Bulls don't have to be stupid in an attempt to put together a better playoff outfit.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 04:25 PM) Ego/pride matter, but money talks. If you can get a few mil to just sit around on the bench, most guys will take it. Most guys would. But most guys aren't Ray Allen. $3-5 million a year just doesn't mean a whole lot for a guy of his stature. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 04:26 PM) But, Duncan has seen his mpg drop from ~34 to ~28 over the last 3 seasons, and he's a year younger than Allen. Allen's minutes have been 34-36 his entire time in Boston. Well, you had him all the way down to 20 MPG. If you were exaggerating, fine. I'm just saying that I think that if Ray feels like he can't be an effective starter anymore, he'll just go ahead and call it a career.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 04:16 PM) Even if his body is breaking down, if you dropped him from 34 mpg last year down to 20 mpg...it might make him a ton more effective/energized. I understand that. That's why I mentioned his ego/pride. Does a guy that's been 35+ minutes a game want to even come back if the best thing for him would be to drastically cut his minutes down? You're going to have to chop Kobe's foot off before he comes off the bench. Duncan and KG, even at advanced ages and their own health issues, have never and will never come off the bench.
-
QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 03:52 PM) I don't really view Allen as an upgrade to any team he goes to at this point. He was awful last post season, and at 36, his ankles aren't likely to hold out for another full season. Maybe he fully heals and comes back healthy, but I'd be willing to bet he'll have another performance like we just saw. The wildcard is his health. That's obvious. We won't really know until he gets back on the court if last year was the new norm or at 36 his body has finally broken down.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) That presumes Allen feels he can actually play a full season as a starter. He may just want to join Miami to coast for 80 games and try hard in playoffs. Depends on his ego, really. Ray Allen strikes me as a guy that would rather call it quits than relegate himself to a bench role and ring chase (he obviously already has a ring).
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) Ray Allen, your plan to Miami is waiting. Clippers makes much more sense. They can offer more money and a starting gig.
-
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) I'd take a gamble on him, pair him up with Rip again and hope they both stay healthy. If they can't stay healthy then you just write off the season but if they both stay healthy, then i think the bulls are still a top 4 team in the east. You'd be lucky to get 40 games out of those two. Billups tore his Achilles and is 36. Rip: see the last 4 years.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) It's pretty obvious the Marlins are going to make the playoffs. The question is: Is it destiny for Sox n Miami to meet in the WS the first-year post Ozzie. The bigger question is: who would you root for?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 09:24 PM) Podsednik, Pierzynski, and? Konerko? Yup. PK last year. And I honestly had forgotten that he got in via final vote. I thought it was Dye in '08 for some reason.
-
I don't believe this. You can find guys like Asik in the NBDL. He reminds me of Tree Rollins. Let Houston, etc, be stupid. Worry about Taj. Don't worry about Asik.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 05:16 PM) How does the following 3 seasons equal 3 straight 12/8 seasons? 12.8 / 8.8 12.7 / 7.5 11.7 / 5.7 Oh my goodness. Whatever. Now tell me how he's "improving" and waiting to be "unleashed" upon the basketball world. There's a reason he hasn't exceeded 30 MPG. He's very slow laterally, foul prone and not always in the best of shape. This would be acceptable in 1986. Not today.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 04:51 PM) Where do you get 12/8 for the last 3 years - that's just false? He also hasn't been unleashed for even 30 mpg yet. He's 25, his PER jumped from 15 to 19, he's a shot blocking machine, and he can score and board. Among centers who played 29 minutes or more, Hibbert ranked 5th in the NBA behind Joakim Noah, Marcin Gortat, Andrew Bynum, and Dwight Howard. He's f***ing good. EDIT: And since when is 14.5 per a centerpiece? How is it false? The numbers are right there for you. He's hasn't been "unleashed" yet because he's fat and has stamina issues. Ibaka is a great shotblocker. Not Hibbert. Because of the lack of true big men in today's game, he's overrated and about to be overpaid (almost $15 million?). GMAB.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 04:34 PM) Hibbert is the f***ing s***, and he just keeps getting better. A four year deal for him would be brilliant for any team. Is this sarcasm? He's been 12 and 8 for the last three years. He's a good, not great, shot-blocker. He's alright. If you've got a great team around him. But he's no centerpiece.

lol@shack. You are indeed entertaining this day. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 10:26 PM) Mostly because you have a penchant for being the crazy guy on the corner screaming at no one and everyone all at the same time. Hogwash. You're one of the worst of all. But I have to watch what I say to you because you can suspend me. I was accused of not being a fan because I didn't think the Bulls were as good as the Thunder. Then just two weeks ago when I said that there was little to no difference between Westbrook and Rose I was bombarded with, "What are you talking about? Westbrook plays with the best player in the league, the best 6th man in the league and the best shotbolcker in the league." WTF? And that's exactly what I meant when I said the Thunder were better. But wuteva.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 10:06 PM) Oh jeesh...there are quite a few people here that are not homers (I am totally a homer, however) but still support the team. Have you seen the NBA thread this year? Nobody gets it like I do. But I don't care about that. I was messin' around. There's nothing here. Let's just go back to greg vs the world.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 10:02 PM) Aw, I'm not likeable and exciting? I should've said more exciting and likeable. But I'm just bulls***ting. quinarvy is the only person here that understands the fact that you don't have to be a homer and still support your teams.
-
I've gotta admit, this soxfan49 guy is rather impressive. Maybe I should take him under my wing? Make him exciting and likeable like I did quinarvy.

QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) Am I the only one on this board that doesn't hate the Yanks? I envy their success. I envy their almost limitless resources. I don't hate particular players just because they're Yankees. Derek Jeter, for example, is one of the best players of his generation.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 05:25 PM) The Sox also passed on Pujols several times. The point I'm making is the White Sox and some fans have been using their draft position as an excuse for not developing a lot of good players in the past decade. They have had opportunities to draft a lot of good ones. Of course, the problem could have been in their developmental personnel. Had they had drafted guys like Trout, Pujols, Pedroia (I'm cherrypicking, I know) maybe they don't become the players they became. It does help a team, especially one where payroll is always under discussion, to develop some home grown stars. Maybe the Sox are turning a corner, but if they had Trout and he was as good as he is now, Anthony Rizzo wouldn't be page 5 news. I wonder where he was on the Sox board. Other than Tizzle, nobody here has dismissed the notion that you have to have a top-5 pick every year to build up a farm system more than I have. I agree with everything you've said here. I just threw that initial post out there before somebody else did.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 05:10 PM) If Trout got hurt tomorrow, there would be a shot. What if the Sox drafted Trout instead of Mitchell? in before "23 other teams passed up on Trout as well."
