QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) It's not Greg vs the board. It's sheer foolishness versus facts, 90% of the time. For comparison, a lot of the board piles on Marty, but Marty actually argues some facts once in awhile and not just some nonsensical opinion. There is a distinction. As for Alex, DA is right. When you make the amount of money that mlb players make, it is because you are considered a true professional. You are expected to produce results just like any other professional employee is. That being said, there is a distinction between crediting a manager for having particular skills that elicit results from those that report to him and placing accountability on the player to perform despite his manager. These are two different things people are stating, not one. That doesn't matter. If 25-30 people daily are going to continue to respond at will to greg's "foolishness," then it's him vs the board. And not everything greg says is dumb. When I think about the failure that was 2011, the first thing that comes to mind for me is Adam Dunn. I'm sorry. I'm not blaming Ozzie for the catastrophe that was his season. I blame Adam and only Adam. Now he's bounced-back. Great. I don't buy for a second that it's because Robin's here and Ozzie's gone.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:37 PM) Appreciate the comment Jamshack. Here is my quick two points on Viciedo. 1.) Can't waste this opportunity, get the best starting pitcher available. Unfortunately you can't trade Jordan Danks to accomplish that. 2.) Viciedo struggles against right-handers. What's wrong with getting a cheap insurance policy like Pierre? I'll wager his OBP will be higher than Viciedo's against righties in August and September. Whoa. Slow down. I have no real problem with you wanting to trade Viciedo. But don't say that.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:26 PM) Blaming Ozzie for Rios not playing hard is just as ridiculous as any praise Greg continues to throw Ozzie's way. Alex is supposed to be professional. Playing hard should be assumed. I am glad he's playing hard now. . Pretty much. I was gonna post something similar but I'm staying out of this greg vs the board crap. s*** is tired.

greg has taken over this board. lol.

QUOTE (soxmaniac! @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 10:22 PM) these games have been closer than necessary the past couple series, and i think i know why. Sorry for slacking and affording the sox a few L's and rough games for the bullpen, it wont happen again go sox go, go sox go, hey chicago whattya say, the sox are gonna win today Wait a minute. What are you talking about? You're sorry for slacking? You're just terrible and an awful addition to this board.
-
Oh yes. Chaos and I'm not involved.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 05:20 PM) strong disagreement on that comparison of players Same premise. Former all-stars who are no longer all-stars that have been banged up the last few years.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) Eh, he sucks. No more than how much rip Hamilton sucked. Except the Heat won't be asking Lewis to start and be the difference between losing in the conference finals and getting to the finals.
-
When did the Heat sign Rashard Lewis? Jesus. I know he was hurt last year. But the man can shoot.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 12:24 PM) Yes; Kobe, Lebron, Kris Humphries And I'm the troll. So Kevin Durant is not a superstar? Go away forever.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 10:53 PM) I never said you shouldnt boo under any circumstance, I said that if they were egregious. Drinking/partying and not being able to play, boo them. Dogging it, boo them. Lazy/not practicing, boo them. Maybe you should read my arguments, because I said that there is a difference between booing performance (Dunn tried as hard as he could but struck out) and booing for not trying (Dunn swung and missed a drop third but didnt even try and run to first base.) There is a difference between booing to boo, and booing because a player didnt give it his all, which is all I ask for. Get outta here with that disney made for tv movie bulls***. These are grown men getting paid millions to perform. Adam Dunn did not perform. Not even a little bit. I don't care how hard you try. If you don't get it done (no pun), off with your head. I can see an injury. That's different. But besides that, that comes with the job. If you don't boo players from your team, fine. But don't act like there's something wrong with those that boo when you suck.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 10:21 PM) Why the f*** we even play the games? Why not just crown the Yankees before season start. I don't really get your logic. Baseball is not basketball. You called me a Heat fan. In the NBA, you have the best players, you win. I never deluded myself into thinking that LeBron, Wade and Bosh weren't going to get at least one. And Boozer is still terrible.

I would like to take this time to apologize to Jamie Navarro. You were a pretty good pitcher (during the heart of the steroid era) and then signed a fat contract with the Sox and forgot how to pitch. Who's to say that you didn't have personal issues? Who knows what was really going on with you at that time? The internet was in its infancy stages and you didn't have the platform to make excuses for being so awful. So just in case, sorry for booing you. Signed, J4L

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 10:07 PM) You're a Miami Heat fan, boo the Bulls all you want.. Fan? No. Just realistic and not delusional as some. Take that hawk harrelson cheer until you drop dead garbage somewhere else. It's 2012.
-
Well, I guess I better stop booing Carlos Boozer for being defensively inept. I'm sure if I cheer real, real hard, he'll morph into 2004 Ben Wallace.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) I just want to point out it's fine that we booed. I'm not arguing that. I'm just arguing that this is a legitimate reason for him to have sucked. And I'm arguing that this is something the Dunn's have dealt with before last year. But because he was god-awful, now it's coming to our attention.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 09:52 PM) You do know Im arguing that Sox fans should almost never boo their own players, regardless of whether they have personal problems. What separates Sox fans from any other fanbase in sports? Why can't we boo our own when they don't perform?
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 09:45 PM) I'm going to reiterate, epilepsy sucks. Like, destroys your life suck. I can't imagine how Dunn felt watching his young child go through what should be a happy part in his life where his biggest problem is a scraped knee. But he has to watch his son writhe in pain and is powerless to help him. His son probably can't do things that all kids enjoy. His kid might never be allowed to drive, he'll try to fit in but so much will be cut off to him. If it's not cured, he'll have to register with a disability office at schools, because it f***s up your ability to think. Every moment his kid is alive could be his last. He could be playing catch with his kid and watch his kid fall over lifelessly, even dead, as the ball soars over his head. And if he moves, he'll just be in uncontrollable pain. But you know what? f*** the guy for striking out. Clearly he should forget about the misery his son is going through because he's in a batters box. Bulls***. This isn't something that just popped up last year. But it's being exploited now and everybody is falling for it. I knew this was coming. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) You do understand that we are Sox fans not Cubs fans, so cheering against Cubs players doesnt really matter. And you just proved my point. So thank you.
-
QUOTE (Carter224 @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) oh shut up If its so tough, retire It's a shame the search function doesn't work. I'd love to go back to 2004/2005 when Wood and Prior's arms wouldn't cooperate. Nobody here showed any mercy whatsoever. Adam Dunn signed a huge contract. He then subsequently forget how to hit a baseball. You get booed when that happens.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 09:05 PM) Dude, you can't handle it if someone argues with you on Soxtalk. um, what? Let's assume you're telling the truth (you're not). What does this have to do with booing Adam Dunn last year? He had one of the worst season's EVER. This is not hyperbole. If your personal issue was that bad last year? Take a break. Take a leave. Whatever. It sure didn't keep you from signing the contract. So I don't want to hear it. I'm glad Adam has bounced back. But I'm not apologizing or ashamed of a damn thing that happened last year.
-
lol. This entire thread is a joke. If Adam Dunn were a Cub last year EVERYBODY here would be laughing and cheering and whatever else you can come up with. Personal problems be damned. Adam Dunn was straight horrific last year and deserved the boos. So what? Whenever a player is horrible from this point on we better hold back just in case there's some personal issue we don't know about? Get over it.
-
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 02:36 PM) Sure, fans pay their money and have the right to boo their own players, but this in part helps highlight (amongst many other reasons) why there's no good reason to do it. Hope many people feel at least somewhat ashamed today. Ashamed? Adam owes me an apology for last year.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 08:44 PM) Top 5 Games: 1) 2-1 win over Tampa where Sale strikes out 15 and Dunn hits 2 run homer 2) Humber perfect game 3) First game of Yankees series where Viciedo hit 3 run homer in 9th 4) First game vs Cubs this year where Konerko got hit, Beckham homered, Wood retired 5) Tigers game where Dunn homers off of Valverde, Reed era as closer begins Outstanding, fathom. I don't know if I have 'em in this order. But this is definitely my top 5 games to this point.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 06:58 PM) If he's on his last legs, the offensive numbers certainly don't show it. He's just about as efficient and as good a 3pt threat as he's ever been... Ray Allen can still ball. He was hurt last year, especially in the playoffs. If he's relatively healthy, it's a wrap. I can't come up with any scenario outside of multiple injuries in which the Heat don't at least get back to the finals next year.
