QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 05:37 PM) selecting an old fatso to fight does increase win % lol. This would qualify as very bad hilarious. One, the dude is hardly fat. But I guess you're going off the mugshot from 2005. Two, 28 is old? Wow. I feel washed up as hell.

I've stayed out of this thread because I know no matter what I say I'll be classified as biased because I'm black. But this thread is hilarious. I'm not going to even say good hilarious or bad hilarious. Just that it's hilarious.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 08:26 PM) he's just bitter. Why would I be bitter that he drafted half of BA's top 50 prospects list? lol. And what's all this mess about him having awful keepers? Jacoby Ellsbury, Prince Fielder, and Asdrubal Cabrera finished 3rd, 16th, and 43rd in Yahoo overall rankings last year. Gallardo is a top 15-20 pitcher. Hanson has health concerns. But c'mon. Dude is a stud when healthy. His keepers are hardly awful.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 07:27 AM) nope. you're completely, completely wrong. easiest to fill? sure, but easiest to fill with elite talent? no. 3B now has: Miggy, Hanley, Longo, Bautista, Zimmerman, Wright, Lawrie, Sandoval, Young, Beltre, ARam, ARod, Youkilis OF now has: Kemp, Braun, Ellsbury, Gonzalez, Upton, Stanton, Granderson, Bruce, McCutchen, Holliday, Hamilton, (and then it starts falling off the map into 1-tool and 2-tool players) And you need at least THREE outfielders. No matter what, even if you have one or two elite outfielders, your other two are bringing you down in some way, shape, or form. Still getting used to the fact that MC and Hanley will eventually gain 3B eligibility. That makes the position slightly deeper than it would've been if the Tigers and Mets hadn't signed Fielder and Reyes. This will no doubt be Bautista's last year of 3B eligibility. After that, the only "elite" 3B are Longoria, Zimmerman and Beltre. Sandoval was great in '09, sucked in '10, and was great again last year. His weight will always be an issue. He needs to put together consecutive productive seasons before you can put him in the elite (though he's clearly in the next-tier). Aramis and Youk are good when healthy. But they've both, as I'm sure you know, spent a lot of time on the DL the last few seasons. Michael Young? Meh. He's extremely BA-dependent. He surely won't knock in over 100 runs again and he's getting up there in age. David Wright is a joke and has been in a steep decline since his monster '08. Pay-Rod looked every bit his 36 years last year and doesn't figure to get better at 37. After that? The position is awful. You better get your 3B in the first 3, maybe 4 rounds. Otherwise, you're in deep s***. DBHAO had one of the worst drafts I've ever seen. But he got it right with Lawrie. For the OF, you left out Pence, Cruz, Adam Jones, Victorino, Gordon, Hart and Berkman. We know what Beltran and Choo can do when they're healthy. Carl Crawford is one year removed from a top 10 yahoo finish. Jason Heyward is, what, 22? He sucked last year. But 2010 wasn't long ago. Guys like Upton, Young and Stubbs are average killers, but they provide power and speed. Bryce Harper will be an automatic add when he gets called up. Probably some other guys I'm forgetting. It's just a much deeper position. That's without even getting into potential injuries. If you lose a Longoria or a Zimmerman for a month, you're f***ed at that position until they get back. Scott Rolen? Mark Reynolds? Chase Headley? Those would be your replacements. You could lose a top-tier OF and have a much better chance of finding a decent replacement for the short-term (Andre Ethier and Nick Markakis, who both are going undrafted in some leagues, for example). QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 08:09 AM) 1B is one of the shallowest positions this year. Only if you're in a NL-only league.

The Official Soxtalk Predict 2012 poll
Jordan4life_2007 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No prediction from me. I haven't felt this reserved about a White Sox team since the late 90's. I expect nothing. Only guys that, IMO, matter this season are Viciedo, Sale, Reed, Beckham and, to a lesser extent, Morel. Those 5 guys will determine the overall direction in which this franchise is going. -
QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 10:26 PM) The irony is that OF is more of a premium position than 3B. Sorry, Reddy. This just isn't true. At all. The easiest positions to fill in fantasy - in no particular order: 1B, OF, SP, RP. 3B isn't that far off from SS and C as far as lack of depth goes.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 05:22 AM) Adam Dunn has a career year batting .265 with 44 HRs and 112 RBIs. Konerko struggles a bit early but heats up down the stretch. Still has a down year with 23 HRs and 91 RBIs. Peavy wins 15 games. Sale wins 17 games and makes the All Star team. The Sox are in it all year, and the division comes down to the last week of the season. Hawk yells "Stretch, stretch, get on back there!" in an at bat where Dunn hits a pop up to second base. He then says, "He just missed that one." An early April game is postponed due to snow. 100 randomly polled people in Kansas think that Ozzie is funnier than Robin. Out to prove he's a good manager, Robin visits local restaurants to see if people will smile at him. This is outstanding.

Sox spring training Catch All thread

QUOTE (sunofgold @ Mar 24, 2012 -> 12:01 PM) Since St. Patty's Day, we have been playing some good baseball. I have us at 5-2 including that game which was Peavy's gem. Some of our hitters are heating it up. AJ hit an inside the park homer. Dunn hit a couple HRs. Overall, have to be satisfied where we are at. Just waiting for the season to start. This spring training seems to take forever. Oh yeah, my hands are now in shape and ready for the season as well. Um, like, um...what does this mean? -

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 05:34 PM) If I don't hear anything back by Wednesday, the team will be given up. Yeah. I wasn't trying to get on you, man. I know it's not your fault. It just really gets on my nerves that we seem to always have 1-2 owners every year that hold the draft up. If you're not coming back, say so and we can move on. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) Sale is going to wind up being Kenny's best pick. Kid is flat filthy. Kris Honel, Royce Ring, Brian Anderson, Josh Fields, Lance Broadway, Kyle McCulloch, Aaron Poreda, Gordon Beckham, Jared Mitchell, Keenyn Walker (basically a first-round pick). Yeah, I'd say Sale being his best pick is a pretty safe bet. -

So I see we have one person holding the draft up? Is he coming back or what? Otherwise give his team to somebody else. This gets annoying as hell every year. -
Zoom, will our trade go through before the draft?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) If by rape you mean finish anywhere but first, then you should be right. I've taken up residence as Champion yay these past few years. Those titles have asterisks attached to them. And as long as you continue to house Braun, anything you do will be in question.
-
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 10, 2012 -> 12:47 PM) LOL, I just realized that I can't make the draft. Oh well, I know it's incredibly lame for the commish to miss his own draft, but I'm not going to move it unless it's cool with the majority of the league. Fine with me. I could draft 5 Adam Dunn's and 6 Brian Matusz's and probably still finish in the top 4. I'll try my best to make it. But I'm fine if I don't.

Sox payroll about $30 mil less than '11

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 10:52 PM) Wow this is ridiculous, the guy almost goes out of his way to say things that will draw criticism and now is going on how he is treated unfairly and nobody else is attacked for things they post. Everyone that watches any of the NBA knows Howard >>>> Deng and it's not even up for debate. When SS2k5 posted the things about Jordan everyone called him an idiot and he handled it very poorly, probably to the point that like you said most don't even care what he says in this thread. Steve/Felix are usually taking as much heat as you and if you cant handle it go cry to your parents or someone who cares. Oh my goodness. This is going to be my last post in this thread until the playoffs. I'm just going to wait until chat starts again. Because this sucks. Look, I'm not saying that everybody here doesn't know Howard >>>> Deng. Fact is nobody said anything insulting to him. Yeah, this is Soxtalk. But let's face it: It's soxbullsbearstalk in reality. I left the Blackhawks out because hockey is not a real sport and nobody outside of the diehards care about it. That, (Duke's) was a troll or f*** it, just a random whatever post. Now, if I said anything as ridiculous as that, Rose for anybody not named LeBron, Howard, Durant post, I'm gettin' reamed. It would be worse than the fat dude from Seinfeld when he tried to get on Julia Robers in Pretty Woman. Two, I don't even say anything that f***ed up. It just seems like that because again, this is a chicago centric site. If I go to realgm, the mother of basketball boards (at least traffic wise), the stuff I say wouldn't be a big deal at all. 2K5 went troll one day. Yeah, people disputed what he said. But where were the basketball retarded comments? Where were the troll comments? Where were the you're an idiot comments? Let me call somebody retarded and yes, oh my goodness, 3-5 day suspension. I don't feel like I can say anything that goes against the Bulls without getting ambushed. And that's where the mods come in. Now if people can come at me like that, let me do the same. That's it. I'm done now. this has gone too far. I'm done here until the playoffs. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) I said you say things that are "retarded" and that wasn't even in this thread. I only speak with such brevity towards you because I thought we were boys. Anyway, back to this subject. It's the NBA thread. People get called out for saying stupid things. SS2k got slaughtered for his moronic D-Wade/Jordan post. I still catch hell for my stance on LeBron from 2010, and the case against my opinion of Carmelo Anthony is growing every day as he's not stepping up like I declared he would. You just tend to catch a lot of hell because, well, you say a lot of stupid s***. My memory is uncanny. I'm not talking about the post from a couple days ago. There was one from a while back, you claimed you were drunk, that you said I was basketball retarded for saying the Knicks were good. I didn't say s*** because I didn't care. But I want the same freedom when I disagree with somebody. -

Again, let me go the soxbadger route: One, what do you mean back up my opinions? I made a half-ass prediction that the Knicks had a case as second best team in the conference. Melo for the full year. Chandler and Shumpert, along with Woodson as a defensive coach. I can't give you numbers. Because they hadn't played yet. The Heat? I've more than presented my case there. I gave you the numbers . But forget about numbers. Would you trade the Bulls roster for the Heat roster? That's the end of that. Or it should be. Two, people hate me because I talk in absolutes? Really? I said the Heat were the best team in the conference and I think they're the best team now. I said why. Nobody can come up with a case why they're not outside of, well, if you're a true Bulls, you wouldn't say that. I never said the Bulls beating the Heat would be the biggest upset in sports history. Just that it's not likely. OMG you're not a fan. Three, f*** all that joking s***. I'm cool with joking. As long as you're fair. I was joking in the WNBA thread and got suspended for 10 days for making fun of wnba players. I joke a lot and my posts get erased by knight for whatever reason(s). Elrockin, oh my goodness, but let me not go there. That's fine. Blind homerism that makes no sense is OK. I say something that the masses don't agree with? You're retarded like deAndre Jordan? Or whatever he said. Just call it the same for everybody. Not just me because I sport unpopular opinions. -

I'm not the sensitive type. Just in this thread alone - I've been called a hater, idiot, troll, retarded (you and sleepy, the latter just comes out of nowhere), not a real Bulls fan, etc, etc, etc. Even southside teacher said something smart. I don't even know who the hell that is. But that was let go. Who cares! But when I said phil Rogers was retarded last year? OH MY GOD! I'm sorry. If it looks like Jennifer Hudson and smells like Jennifer Hudson ("I was stwrong without weight watchers - but i'm stwronger with it"), then it probably is jennifer hudson. I get singled out and it's ridiculous. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 04:15 PM) And yes, we are pretty hard on you. Sometimes you post some "i just drank a lot" opinions and people cannot refrain from replying. Sometimes you have opinions that are pretty far left of the norm. You dont back down from them, which is commendable, but sometimes the argument gets tired. Duke said what he said, and people said "you are nuts", and he didnt really say much else afterwards except to actually admit "yes, I am nuts". You, on the other hand, wouldnt say that. You would hunker down and argue the point to death, kind of like you did in the offseason when you argued that Kidd was still a superstar because Dallas didnt fit with your opinion that nowadays you need more than one star to win it all. It is what we expect from you. We all argue here, thats what we do. If you didnt notice when it happened, SS2K5 took a tremendous amount of heat for his Jordan comment. Sorry you feel he didnt, but it wasnt just you arguing that Jordan would be far more than merely average in the NBA today. I wont say a word about the Knicks again to you this season, i know it bugs you now, the point has been made. Nope. No good. Now yes, I do drink a lot. I'm not worried about my liver. I don't want to live past 60 anyway. Yeah, I can be a little more, I don't know, radical, when I am drinking. But I say what I feel at that time. It's not just alcohol talking. Far as Duke? No. That's bulls***. Nobody said anything to him when he said it. Not sure what happened weeks later. And he doesn't get to play the drunk card (assuming he was drinking on SB Sunday). If I can't play it, even though that's not the case, nobody can. Two, yes, I know a number of people disagreed with 2k5 about the Jordan stuff. But it was all respectable. Nobody came and called him a troll or deemed him not worthy of an opinion. If I said that, it'd get ugly. And you know it. Three, roast me about the Knicks. I was wrong. Badly. That wasn't me hating the Bulls. Yes, I didn't care for the Hamilton signing. But I never said the Knicks were for certain better than the Bulls. I said they had a case. Again, wrong. I can take the Heat. What pisses me off is that I'm somehow a hater, troll, or not a fan. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) If I called you out on anything I would be past SS2K5 in post count No, sir. You've accused me of not being a real White Sox fan or a Bulls fan. I'm calling out this entire thread, or the people that post in it sans brother Felix and brother Quinarvy. And yes, I am kinda drunk. But I will be reasonable. I am held to a different standard around these parts. If I say anything that could be looked at as going against the Bulls, I'm either dismissed as a troll, a hater, or not a real fan. Example number 1: Duke says he wouldn't trade Luol Deng for Dwight Howard straight up. WTF is that? Nobody said s***. Now let me come out and say I'd trade Derrick Rose for Rudy Gay straight up - oh my f***ing god. I'd have to call the cyber crimes unit for the type of abuse I would get here. Example number 2: "the only things MJ does better than Wade is block shots and dunk the basketball." Oh my god. Now let me come out and say the only things Rose does better than, I don't know, Ty Lawson, is dunk and be humble, s***tttttt, again, I'd have to call the cyber pigs. Nobody called 2k5 a troll.. Example number 3: Me saying Carlos Boozer sucks and is a waste of money. EVERYBODY wanted Bosh. So because we had to settle for Carlos Boozer, I can't say anything bad because he's a Bull. Turrible. I will think of more things later. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 03:08 PM) I don't know about that. Lebron has taken and made plenty of game winning shots, and he has missed plenty as well. So has Kobe. So did MJ. I think Lebron is starting to get a complex about the final minute, It seems as if he is over thinking it a lot and doing abnormal things. I agree with him, he can't win. I enjoy it because I want the Heat to fail and Bulls to get ahead because of it, but I think a lot of the talk about him in the final minute has been really overblown. I certainly don't think he is scared, though. Yes. This. See, I'm not that bad. Kyle calls me out for, well, anything. But I agree totally here. And I want to throw in LeBron had two game winners against the Wizards in the 2006 playoffs. Yes, some of the criticism is legitimate. The other part is people still hating LeBron because of The Decision. -

And I think some of that is fair. No doubt. Last night was bad. He should've at least taken another dribble. But the all-star stuff was overkill.
