  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 12, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) Call me crazy, but after LBJ, I still think Kobe is the 2nd best player in the NBA. Doesn't mean I'd build a team around him, but a lot of people underappreciate him cause he's been in the spotlight so long. Is he the same guy he was 5 years ago, no, but is he still one of the best, absolutely. I wouldn't complain if Wade got it over him and vice versa. They are similar in my rankings. In fact, I have all of them ahead of Durant, but that is because Durant is a one dimensional player at this point in his career (one of the very best in the NBA, but his lack of overall defensive ability is what I think prevents him from being #2 or so in the group). Give me Dirk, Wade, Rose, a healthy Paul, Durant and Howard over Kobe at this point. Kobe's been in decline for about 4 years now. Not shocking considering the mileage. But he's robbing more deserving players of individual honors due to his reputation. Can you believe that Kobe led the league in field goal attempts and usage percentage? With Gasol, Bynum and Odom on his team? And he only averaged 34 MPG. That's ridiculous. People keep talking about what's wrong with the Lakers? Everybody is picking on Gasol. Kobe's a big reason for their demise.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 12, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) Why the hell is Kobe on first team instead of Wade? There is no logical reason. Just like Kobe continually making the All Defensive team. Kobe's a great player. But he really needs to give back about 3 All NBA selections, 5 or 6 All Defensive team selections and his '08 MVP (Paul should've easily won that).
  3. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ May 12, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) The 2011 All NBA Teams, per Rotoworld: 1st: Durant, LeBron, Howard, Rose, Kobe 2nd: Westbrook, Wade, Dirk, P. Gasol, Stoudamire 3rd: Paul, Ginobili, Randolph, Aldridge, Horford lol@Kobe on the first team over Wade. Other than that, everything else is pretty good there.
  4. QUOTE (danman31 @ May 11, 2011 -> 06:27 PM) Recently I had a discussion about the state of the White Sox system and the age of prospects at certain levels was one of the points of contention. A number of Sox farmhands are off to hot starts in leagues where they are older than the competition. Obviously, it's early in the year so start complaining about promotions not happening is silly, but it got me thinking. Just how old is too old for each level? Read more: http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/future-sox...l#ixzz1M5bboISN I know a lot of people have been b****ing about this lately and here's some numbers to back it up. We got some old A balls teams. This is excellent. And further confirms the ineptness of this organization's player development.
  5. Bryce Harper was 4/5 with a HR and 5 RBI last night. .396/.472/.712/1.184. I'd say it's time for a promotion. And I'm talking AA. He's that good.
  6. Stay hot and enhance that trade value. Danks has no future with this organization, IMO.
  7. I'm with Lillian. Just get JP off the field. I can't take it anymore.
  8. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 12, 2011 -> 04:09 AM) Nothing made me happier this series then seeing Big Baby Davis play terribly, there's a career bench player for you right there. To put it simply, the big trade that Boston made probably cost them this series. Green and Kristic really didn't do anything at all, and you'd have to think with Perkins in there, defensively they would be have been better, and the series would have gone to 6 or 7. The Perkins trade was a bad one. But not the difference between the Celtics losing in 5 and possibly winning the series, IMO. Miami was just the better team. Younger, more skilled and infinitely more athletic.
  9. Brandon Phillips has made a couple plays similar to Konerko's last night. That said, amazing play by PK.
  10. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 11, 2011 -> 09:34 PM) I'd really like to give Jake a month before we make any sort of judgment on his being "back" or not. First game back in the bigs, he's gonna have some adrenaline. I agree totally here. I said I'm not worried about results right now with Jake.
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 11, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) I never said a word about the referees in today's game. I wasn't talking about you. But can a game go by in which the refs aren't brought up? What do you think non-Bulls fans say about Rose?
  12. Juan Pierre is the worst player in baseball. I've seen enough. He needs to evaporate or something.
  13. That's not on Jake at all. I'll be sure to remember that one.
  14. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 11, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) I disagree with damn near everything you have said for the last 2 weeks. And I don't give a s***. The ref hating is getting ridiculous. Can 24 hours go by without somebody blaming the refs? Bulls, Bears, Illini. Stupid.
  15. Someday a game will occur and nobody blames the refs. Please. The Heat star power shined in this one. Like most every other game. It wasn't the refs.
  16. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ May 11, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) If the Heat win the championship, it is pretty pathetic. Their bench isn't that deep and it just goes to show that you have to be the NYY of the NBA to align the "big three" to win. How is it anymore pathetic than what Boston did in '08? I wanted James and Bosh last year. We came up short. I'm not going to hate because another team got them. I'm REALLY scared of the Heat right now. They're peaking at the right time. And that look LeBron displayed after drilling that three to put them up 6 was frightening.
  17. LeBron James is the best player in the NBA. he didn't quit this time. He has help now. Rose can at best hope to equal James. Then you got Wade and Bosh to worry about. This is what I'm talking about. Star power wins out 9 times out of 10.
  18. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 11, 2011 -> 06:11 PM) It's called getting older. Seriously, I can relate to some points. Ever since 2005, there's a little part of me that says "I saw my team win it all, and really why watch anymore?" I'm guilty. Then there's the most part of me that says "Because you're born on 26th and Wallace back in 73 and you saw your first baseball games versus Detroit in 77, and you met Chet Lemon in 79 and YOU WERE HOOKED FOR LIFE." Being out of state, it doesn't help, especially living in a town where Houston is 3 hours driving away, and Arlington is about 4. And, raising a family too takes up your time, blah blah blah.... Wait, maybe it is getting older. Crap. Well back to my point, can't even THINK about if the Sox move away or if they are ever retracted for any reason. If they do for either, then I will watch a game or two once in a while and see plenty of UT or Texas State baseball as I live right behind their stadium here in San Marcos. That's brutal. Horrible. Then you were never a fan to begin with. 2005 is what has made me pyscho (not sure if I spelled that correctly).
  19. Um, how is this different from the gamethread?
  20. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ May 11, 2011 -> 05:51 PM) You're not understanding. Some people are fans of minor league teams and therefore want to see them do well. They don't give a s*** about what the prospects do, they just want to see the team win. Some people would buy Barons tickets to watch the prospects (you or I), others would buy Barons tickets to watch the Barons (John, I presume). See the difference? You're right. I get that. I'm just saying it has no impact on he future of the big league club.
  21. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ May 11, 2011 -> 05:03 PM) Why is supporting and wanting to see a minor league team do well and different to supporting and wanting to see a major league team to well? Because in the grand scheme of things the record just doesn't matter. I mean, have you ever watched or went to check a minor league boxscore and said "f***! they lost!" I mean honestly. If they do well that's a bonus. No problem. But do you think Nationals fans care about the record of their low A affiliate or the progress of Bryce Harper? Or Angels fans with how Mike Trout is doing or their AA record? It's all meaningless.
  22. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 11, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) Lamarcus Aldridge is a way better comparison for either of them really. That's a good one. He eluded me. Point remains the same, though. Back to the basket post-players are nearly extinct.
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 11, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) A Barons season ticket holder? If you purchase minor league tickets with actually caring about win-loss records then that's your fault.
