QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2011 -> 08:46 PM) Really nice job by Danks of getting us back in the dugout. Yeah, didn't look like he'd make it out the 4th. I'll take the 'quality' start. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 17, 2011 -> 08:12 PM) Yeah. That's kid a f***ing tool. So was Barry Bonds. Give me tools that can play baseball over "professionals" like JP and A.J. any day. -

QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 17, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) Anyone opposed to that is either completely oblivious to prospects, or is too stupid to google baseball statistics/scouting reports. I'm a real big fan of that guy. He should be a good one. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) That was after the awful offseason after 2008. What a terrible one year span for Kenny Williams. That 12 month span was the beginning of the end of the KW/Ozzie era. I remember KW said after the Rios acquisition that this team was "set to go on a run." As in a 3-4 year stretch of dominance. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 17, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) That's a given, but I am not giving up on Pierre. It's a bit too early to say JP is done. however, he needs to show us he still has gas left in the tank It is? -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 17, 2011 -> 05:00 PM) There are simply too many days off in between games. Guys are making trades for Dwight with a team that is up 1-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals, people are talking draft picks, now a completely random Vegas convo. Tomorrow night can't get here quickly enough! I'd venture to guess that there have been more posts in this thread today than most White Sox gamethreads.

Lakers didn't draft Kobe. Just saying.

QUOTE (maggliopipe @ May 17, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) It would be really difficult to root for that dbag Dwight Howard. Not to mention having to hide him late in games on the offensive end. Obviously, physically he's a beast, but he's a limited beast on the offensive end with a VERY slowly evolving, limited arsenal of post moves who can't hit free throws. He's far and away the Magic's best player, yet he gets limited looks late in games. Speaks volumes when SVG would rather have the ball in Jameer Nelson's hands in crunch time. That said, I think he might flourish not having to be the leader of his team because obviously he either isn't mature enough for that role or just doesn't want it. He's a 5-time rebounding champion, 2-time blocked shots champion and 3-time DPOY. His offensive game has improved a ton over the last couple years (career high 23 PPG on elite efficiency this year). And he's only 25. His FT shooting doesn't come into play as much because Rose would obviously be the closer in those situations.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 17, 2011 -> 11:55 AM) Petricka faces Bryce Harper tonight. May the devil have mercy on Petricka's poor soul.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) The lesson we have learned with these two teams is that if you gut your team to put superstars on the floor, you are going to have huge weaknesses that will get exploited in the playoffs. Let's win this series first before we make that declaration. And should the Heat lose, so be it. Are you seriously going to criticize Riley for landing the three best players on the market? Shame on that man. The Heat's cast would not be nearly as bad had Haslem not gotten hurt and had Mike Miller not turned into Wite. That's just something they'll have to improve.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) It has nothing to do with "team harmony" and everything to do with winning. This team is winning, right now, and doesn't really have any significant players you expect to fall off of a cliff. Really as young as this team is, you should expect improvement out of most of them. You're right. It is all about winning. And that's why I trade anybody on the roster besides Rose for the best C in the game. Because I want to win. Over and over and over again.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 17, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) What makes you think this team is built for a one year run like the 2005 Sox? I don't get that impression at all. In fact, with the youth on this team it seems that it's built to be a powerhouse for years to come. Honestly, and I'm sure it's just me that thinks this, I don't see this as a perennial 60 win outfit as currently constructed. This team overachieved by about 10 games if you ask me. The division was historically bad. And you got other teams with multiple stars that should be better in the future. The Heat. The Knicks. If the Nets can land Howard? Yikes. The Bulls have been great this year and don't have to apologize for anything. I just think it's delusional to say adding a monster like Howard would be detrimental because it could mess with team harmony. Please. NBA2K11 wouldn't even allow you to pair Rose/Howard without some kinda cheat code. I'll worry about finding another Taj Gibson in the draft or something.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 17, 2011 -> 11:48 AM) I dont think Steve was being literal at all, I think he meant that if you have to give up Noah/Taj etc for Howard, is that a cost that makes sense. After watching this team with its interchangeable parts, do you really want to change the entire dynamic? The more I read about the Bulls and Rose, the more I feel that they should just keep this team as is. Improve on the core, instead of trading away pieces of the core for more "superstar". Howard is a monster, but Im not sure if he fits in with the dynamic of this team. Is this a sick joke? Do I have to offer a rebuttal to this? I demand a mod ban me right now.
-
You guys are so literal sometimes. I don't think Buehrle > Wood meant he would trade 11 players for Howard. He meant that any combination of players that it took to land Howard sans Rose would be acceptable to him. And I agree. In Rose/Howard, you would have one of the most devastating PG/C combos in the history of the game. You set yourself up for a string of title runs. Not just a flash in the pan (hello, White Sox).

Fact of the matter is it's time to f***ing see what we have in Dayan. There's nothing for him to accomplish at AAA. He's never going to have Barry Bonds' plate discipline. And he's certainly not going to morph into Carl Crawford out in LF. He we are nearly 2 and a half years later after signing him and we're still waiting. Let's go!

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 17, 2011 -> 09:02 AM) J4L gives up on this team because we didn't trade Asik for Courtney Lee. I want my props as Asik's most ardent supporter. Go. I said Mayo. Not Lee. And I would still do that trade in a heartbeat. Though I definitely have come around on Asik. Didn't realize how athletic he was.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 17, 2011 -> 08:00 AM) That's cause Detroit is gonna win it! Not sure if you're being fictitious or not, but I think they're the best team in the division. They certainly have the two best pitchers and best position player in the division.

QUOTE (T R U @ May 17, 2011 -> 03:39 AM) On pace for 63 HRs and an astonishing 107 RBIs Which kinda reinforces why RBI is a garbage stat.

This reminds me of when I got caught stealing a magazine from Dominicks when I was 17 and the store manager and cops told me I was never to visit the store again. I went back about 3 days later and not a damn thing happened.
