QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 07:30 AM) No, i'm pretty sure this is only the 3rd year of this league. Must be a different league nuke is talkin' about. How does one get Pujols in the sixth round? -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 09:34 PM) Why do you distrust anything the Sox have said. They have said anything that wasn't accurate. They let him progress as the medical staff advised. Peavy hid the fact that his shoulder was more sore than normal. The Sox were encouraged with the fact that he was increasing his pitch count and throwing in the low 90's. Nothi ng looked wrong until the last start when he was throwing 85-90 but he also had the flu. there is nothing in the scenario where the Sox misled anyone, and that shouldn't cause anyone to mistrust anything that has come out of this situation. You can doubt if he will be ready which is legitimate if his strength doesn't increase at a good rate, however I can't see where they misled anyone. Fair enough. I've re-read some of the articles that have come out over the last 24 hours and its clear Peavy was trying to be Wolverine and it's backfired once again. But from this point on the Sox better not listen to a thing Peavy says. It's safe to say he's more bark than bite and his net worth with us has been zero.

QUOTE (supernuke @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 09:18 PM) If we go with 10 let me be the first to congratulate the white sox stompers for being the only team in Fantasy baseball to draft Albert Pujols with a 6th round pick. Final keepers for the Supernukers. Jason Heyward Matt Holliday David Wright Ubaldo Jiménez David Price Does this league date back to 2002? -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 07:05 PM) Who says he'll pitch 150 innings? I don't think I'd want him to pitch more than 50 and I hope we don't need him for more than 50. I won't believe a thing the White Sox say regarding Peavy until he's pitching in a game that means something.. And if it's not Humber it'll be some scrub from the system. Same thing.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) At least you're taking the high road. This is all a joke to me. I'd actually be more upset over guys like wite or qwerty puttin me on ignore over the ones that claimed they have over the last couple hours because I'm not nice enough.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 06:51 PM) I'm getting really sick of Jake Peavy's bulls***. Not the fact that he's always hurt - the fact that he thinks he's the toughest man on the face of the Earth and that he'll pitch through anything. When you're hurt, f***ing say something, and stop throwing. Stop the whole macho man routine - it's getting old and it's not helping you or the team. We didn't need you for opening day - and that was a long shot anyway. Not for one minute did I think he'd be ready for the start of the season - nor should he have even tried, really. This is the result. The Sox are giving you all the time you need to get healthy. It's not their fault you've got this problem now, it's yours. Peavy is being selfish here - he's not putting himself in the best position to help the White Sox. Ozzie's comments are pretty telling. Now Peavy has to start from square one? Way to help everything out, Jake. You, sir, are evil and you're obsessed with genocide. KW and Coop, two guys that would never lie, said Jake is just fine and expected this all along. Ignore you go.

Thanks, zoom. Much appreciated.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) You and I are worlds apart - enjoy the season Jordan - there's no use in me reading your posts from here on out =P *edit - this ignore feature is pretty cool, I suggest it's use to all members of this board. ( should you ever find something repeatedly annoying. )* That's your right. Have fun with that. I'll never not express my views and thoughts due to the possibility of somebody putting me on ignore. I find blind homerism every bit as annoying as you do me and my 'negatism.' I know that's not a word. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) I feel like you have become the exact opposite. You'll search out the best of our competition and believe that, while assuming the worst for us. Almost like some sort of bizarre overcompensation so that no one can ever call you a homer and you can remain some kind of superior fan/purist or something. It sucks all the joy out of anything to do with the team, because no matter what, the conversation instantly goes negative. I don't get what the fun of following or coming here when every single conversation is how something is going to fail. Why even bother with it if that is really how you feel? I know if I get pissy about the team or game, I just turn it off and walk away. That's your misconception. You're not anymore a fan or dedicated to the Sox than I am. You're the ultimate optimist. I've evolved into a pessimist. That's fine with me. This franchise has gone backwards since '05 and I have no problem with voicing my opinions. I give credit to the Sox where I feel it's due. I went nuts, in a good way, when we signed Dunn. Pull up the thread if you think I'm lying. Shouldn't be too hard to find. But I'm not going to be a blind homer to every single move the team makes. How are you gonna tell me I should turn the TV off and not watch any games because I'm not a Hawk Harrelson clone? That's bulls***.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 05:21 PM) So is whoever the Yankees are throwing out there too, so at least we are even with them. The Yankees also have a farm system and cash to go out and upgrade if they really need to. We don't.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) Before making harsh judgments like that which not are based in reason - step back and cool down a bit. Peavy will be back and he will contribute to the 2011 White Sox. Nothing we have heard indicates else-wise. Have you seen Humber pitch this spring? He's actually looking very good. Also, do you remember that he is a former 1st round pick? Also, did you hear that he has added a cutter? Also, have you failed to read that Cooper likes this kid? Remember last time Cooper got a former first round pick? ( Floyd and Thornton ) Remember last time a starter came under Coopers wing armed with a newly discovered cutter? ( Loizia ) It seems like your the boards new resident pessimist Jordan... That's fine with me. I'll be the new devil of the board. I'm NOT being mean or whatever, but I don't give a s*** what Humber has done this spring or what he's added. He's hippos***. If this were the Cubs, we'd all be laughing. But since it's the Sox there's some kinda fake hope that he can be good. That won't work on me. If I turn out to be wrong, so be it. But the odds that I'm wrong are pretty low. Like really low.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 04:44 PM) He wasn't even that bad with the Royals. Besides, Dayton Moore isn't the best at major league talent evaluation. He has enough talent to be a serviceable fifth starter. He has a mediocre fastball and a decent change-up. Adding a cutter can't hurt either. I wouldn't be all that surprised if he puts up Freddy Garcia numbers. That was in like 20 innings, though. Humber over the course of 150 innings or so? I'll take suicide over that.
-
Man, my head hurts. The Sox will have to do this thing without Peavy. I expect nothing from him. Hopefully, a prospect or two breaks out this year and we can dangle them for another starter come June/July. Humber is an insult and unacceptable as a 5th starter solution in the AL.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2011/03/21/coo...run-the-asylum/ Wait, what? The first game of the playoffs? Is there something I'm not getting here?

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) It's not really the same thing, you and I both know it. There are maybe 6 pitchers that should go in the first four rounds of a 10 team draft, which is why we set those rules to give them a bit more value. If he tried to keep four hitters, I'd probably manually change it. If he really wants to keep Buchholz over someone like Ichiro or Uggla, I don't have as big a problem with it as if I wanted to drop Brett Anderson for Andrew McCutcheon (who I'm keeping now anyways with Utley's knee issues, but it's just an example). I guess. I'm just saying the rules were clear. I mean what if he had Felix, Kershaw, Lester and Verlander? It seems like you're saying that since Buchholz isn't that good that's it's OK. But I'm not going to make a stink about this. I'm fine if you allow it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) I was right and you all were wrong is pretty much the definition of gloating. Um, but I didn't do that. And show me where I did. I was skeptical from the beginning. Peavy's injury is rare and unique and I never bought that he would be ready by opening day. May would be a best-case scenario and I'm thinking more towards the break.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 02:52 PM) You just spent the afternoon yesterday gloating about Peavy. I don't see this being any different. What are you talking about? I just said that I wasn't surprised by the setback and never bought all the fluff that he was on this ridiculous pace and that he could be ready by opening day. It wasn't like, 'Hahahahaha, I told you Peavy wouldn't be ready. I was right and you were wrong.' Ozzie was harder on Peavy than I was. You really get the sense with Ozzie that Peavy is now a luxury, not a necessity, at this point.
-
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) For now, I'm going to allow this since Buchholz is rated 159th anyways. The main point was because everyone wanted you to have to keep at least two pitchers so you can't just keep four awesome hitters. I'll still try to get a hold of Tru to try to get him to fix it. Yeah, I don't want to sound like a whiny girl. But it's been clear for a while that it was 2 hitters, 2 pitchers, 1 whatever. If you're to allow 4 pitchers then you would have to allow 4 hitters, no? I don't make the trade with steve if I can keep 4 hitters and 1 pitcher.
-
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) Finalized the rosters, working on entering keepers. If it's no trouble, can you list all the keepers in one post so I/we know exactly the pool of talent that we have to choose from? When you get a chance, of course.
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) pierre was great for us last year. end of story. You have a very loose definition of great.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) If he fails, you will be thrilled to gloat. Nope. I won't even be here. Shades of Felix Diaz, Jason Grilli, Arnie Munoz, Danny Wright, Josh Stewart and Mike Porzio are upon us. If any of the top 4, or even worse, multiple guys from the top 4, fail to produce at an acceptable level it's going to be a longgggggg year. That means Gavin can't suck ass for the first 6 weeks. Edwin has to develop this thing in sports we call consistency. Buehrle just has to get by, of course. And Danks has to be really good.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) There is a right and a wrong to this statement Where's the wrong?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 01:20 AM) So since Peavy might not be ready break camp with the team, I decided to take a better look at Humber. There's definitely room to be a bit optimistic about the guy. He was absolutely horrible with the Twins, but his work in limited time last year with the Royals wasn't that bad (4.15 ERA, 3.31 FIP, 4.35 xFIP). For one, his fastball velocity went up about 1 MPH and proved to be much more effective than it was before when it was sitting around 90-91. He also threw the fastball less and relied more on his change-up and curveball, both of which had positive pitch values. With him learning a cutter, he could be an okay option for the 5th starter. All we really need him to do is keep us in games and I think he should be capable of doing that. Marcel projects him for a 4.38 ERA and a 4.11 FIP in limited work, how certain Marcel is of those numbers is something I don't have access to. Not you, too! I'm not coming anywhere near this place in games that Humber starts. Heed my warning: it won't be a pretty site. He got DFA'd twice in like 20 minutes. When the Royals release you, that's all that needs to be said.
-
QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 11:38 AM) Also put me in the camp that Peavy's contract is impossible to dump but if and this is a strong IF there's one team that might be willing to take him despite his injuries, I'd think it'd be the Yankees. Maybe KW can dump JP on Cashman because the Yankees desperately need pitching if they're going to compete for the WS and Peavy is such a big name that Cashman would do it. Realistically, probably not though. No team, not even the Yankees, would even consider dealing for Peavy until he REALLY, REALLY proved that he could stay healthy for longer than two consecutive hours. We're pretty much stuck with him through 2012.

Soxtalk Keeper League 2 Info
Jordan4life_2007 replied to MHizzle85's topic in PTC/Contest/Fantasy Board
Wow, I didn't even realize this league only had 10 signed up. Guess Soxtalk ain't feelin' the fantasy vibe this year. Oh, well. I'm cool with 10. More talent for J4L to scoop up. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 01:20 PM) I want nothing to do with Oliver Perez. Besides that, if he signs a minor league contract, and goes down to the minor leagues, he doesn't get to work with Cooper. And if he's on the major league roster working with Cooper, well then that's a huge waste of a roster spot. I let Oliver Perez do whatever he wants to, but I am not going to sign him to pitch anywhere in my organization unless I am totally deprived of pitching talent AND do not have a good team. There's no need for a good team to try and mess around with Oliver Perez at this point. lol. I like how you added the 'AND' do not have a good team. I was about to ask if you were crazy. Our pitching depth is thinner than an Olsen twin.
