  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 5, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) How far in advance are you suggesting? Now for next season? Honestly, that might be best. That way we all play for THAT particular year and that particular year only. No worrying at all about the next year. "I would trade so and so for so and so. But I want this guy for next year." Those kinda things. Like last year for example. I wanted an upgrade at 3B (Sandoval was horrible). I sent one of the owners who had Ryan Zimmerman a PM asking who he would want for him. And he said Strasburg and only Strasburg. And I struggled for two weeks with that one. Of course, this was before Strasburg got hurt. But you could imagine my dilemma at the time. Do I go with the upgrade at 3B in exchange for an almost immortal lock to dominate SP as soon as '11? I made the trade. I went for it in '10. Knowing that more than likely I would only have Zimmerman for the last two months. That's the thing with keeper leagues. You're playing for the next year as well. I say we keep it the way it is for this year and if majority, or hell, if Zoom, since he's running the show, want to just reset the league. So be it. I won't have a problem with it. Also, I have to be honest and admit a big part of me wanting to leave it like it is is because I have Pujols, Cano, Tulo, Price and Kershaw. lol. If my keepers sucked I probably wouldn't care as much. lol.
  2. Whether or not to ditch or reduce keepers should be discussed well in advance of the draft. And it's unfair to those that made moves the previous year with the thinking that they'll have first dibs on the player(s)
  3. Hey, Don. Forgive me if you've answered this before. I'm hungover as s*** and I don't remember. Is this going to he a standard head2head snake draft?
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 3, 2011 -> 11:42 AM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6177350 Elijah Dukes and baby mamma...check Elijah Dukes and Baby mamma fighting....check Elijah Dukes baby mamma pregnant.....check...check Elijah Dukes slapping pregnant baby mamma.....check Elijah Dukes arrested.....check Elijah Dukes held without bail....check Damn, hard for me to admit that I would've loved for the team to take a flier on him. I'm one of those 'talent always wins out' kinda fans. As I believed he had that in premium. But this dude really is a piece of s***. Good f***ing riddens. I'd still take Barry Bonds, though.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 2, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) I'm officially tired of spring training games already. April 1 can't come soon enough. This happens to me every year. I get so psyched for spring training to get underway and I'm faced with the reality that at least half the players I'm either listening to on the radio, online or watching should probably be working at a local deli.
  6. It's games like these that are the little, and annoying, subtle reminders that while this team is good, they're not ready for primetime yet.
  7. I see Mike Bibby is about to sign with the Heat. That's a nice move for them. He's still got a pretty sweet jumper and his assist/turnover ratio has always been pretty good.
  8. QUOTE (Lillian @ Mar 2, 2011 -> 08:36 AM) ?????? Would you please elaborate? Dude's, what, 31? Hasn't done a thing of note at the ML level and has been either non-tendered or released like 4 times since '07. I don't see how the word "potential" applies at all.
  9. Potential and Dallas McPherson?
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 11:41 AM) So if Humber (or any of the automatic loss AAAA guys) wins a single game this year, does that mean you have to shut up about it? Nope. If he goes 1-5 with an ERA over 6, which is most likely depending on Peavy, I'll still talk s***. If Kyle McCulloch was in the running for a rotation spot for the Twins and their pitching coach said something like, "Well, that McCulloch has impressed and has caught our eye" this entire board would laugh their ass off. Like I said, this is fluff time. Everybody is in the best shape of their lives. Everybody is upbeat. Everybody has something to prove. Yawn, yawn, yawn. Humber is a joke and the game(s) he starts will be the stuff of Soxtalk gamethread legend.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 10:31 AM) It would also help if you had the potential that made you a first round pick, but then again that is just me. Not at damn near 29. I know you're optimistic when it comes to anything White Sox. But c'mon now. Phil Humber? That's like a Twins fan being high on Lance Broadway because he's a former first round pick.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) Eh, people can pull out their quotes on Gavin after he got here, and they would look pretty similar. It's probably nothing, but I am giving our coaches the benefit of the doubt with their history. If you say so. Humber is horrible and will be an automatic loss whenever he takes the mound. I could be in the running for the 5th spot and Coop or Merkin or Ranger will talk about my upside. I ignore anything and everything fluff related in Feb/March. But that's what happens when you have zero organizational depth.
  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) player. A Wikipedia bio on Phil Humber for those of you who are like me and have no idea who he is. Bad baseball player. That's all you need to know.
  14. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 10:00 AM) "Jon Heyman heard ex-No. 1 pick phil humber has caught #chisox p. coach don coopers eye. no. 5 starter if peavy can't start year?" Wonderful. Hello 2003/2004. Autoloss city.
  15. Rasual Butler is horrible and will have as much impact as Stacey King on the Bulls playoff prospects.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) So he's a druggie? Ain't nothin' wrong with shrooms.
  17. Kevin Love eats small children. Oh, and I underestimated 'Melo and the impact he would have. Screw depth. Superstars are what win you titles in the NBA. I want no part of the Knicks in the first round.
  18. Indeed. New keeper list is Prince, Tulo, Longoria, Scherzer and Felix. I'm still open for business. Anybody looking for a 2b? I'm dangling Ian Kinsler.
  19. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Feb 25, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) OK I'm no expert so this is more of a question, but: does now Peavy become more of a "control" pitcher picking his spots (think: Maddox, or Buehrle) instead of trying to blow away batters with heat? That's a legitimate question. Nobody knows what the hell Peavy we're going to get.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 25, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) Normally I'd agree, but with a guy who is suffering the effects of multiple concussions, I personally wouldn't take that risk. Totally agree here. And I'm one that's usually pretty cold-hearted. It'd be open season on White Sox hitters were we to go that route.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) I would disagree with that. I would take Alex Rodriguez, KenGriffey Jr. and Barry Bonds before him and that's just position players. There are a number of pitchers i would probably put ahead of him as well. Depending on your definition of modern area Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle and Roberto Clemente were all superior players compared to him. Yeah. I should've said since 2001.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) That makes no sense. You are just counting 2 players vs 1 as the measuring stick without taking into account the rest of the team and also the style of play of the players. I don't get what makes no sense. I didn't say the Knicks were for sure a better team. Before the Melo trade happened, the Knicks were not even on my radar. Now they've added a top 10 player in the game. Not to mention Billups. That changes things drastically. Do I think the Knicks can beat the Heat or Celtics? No. Do I think they can beat the Bulls? Yes.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) You don't judge a team by the number of "superstars". Collectively the Bulls are much better than the Knicks and can play with both Boston and Miami. In a 7 game series i still think Miami gives them the most trouble. If this were MLB or NFL I'd agree. Not the NBA. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) Oof. I could not disagree more with this statement. I said 50/50. Before the Anthony trade, we were unquestionably better. Now? It's a toss-up.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) That's kind of my point. Why sacrifice the future for this year, if this year isn't our year anyway? That's the reason I don't deal Omer or Taj unless I get a stud. Those guys will help you in the future. I don't think Mayo would be that guy on the Bulls even in the future. I don't see him doing anything productive under a coach like Thibs. Maybe if we had Don Nelson who was all about offense and no defense. My point is that Asik and Taj are roleplayers. Yes, roleplayers mean something and you need them to win. But they're worth the risk in acquiring a potential star. The Bulls are not going to beat Miami or Boston. And NY would be a 50/50 bet at this point since they have two superstars vs our one. You've got to get creative and think outside the box.
  25. I can't believe those that are dissing Pujols. He's the greatest player of the modern era. He should get paid the maximum amount. 10 years? Probably not. But I've got no problem with the salary. Jason Bay is making almost $20 million, people!
