Isn't It Amazing How Easy It Is to Keep Rabid Fans Happy?
Jordan4life_2007 replied to greg775's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 21, 2011 -> 09:02 AM) What available player could have been acquired in place of Kotsay that would have made up the 6 game difference? This JimThome guy was out there and wanted to come back to Chicago. Vlad was out there. Hell, a year of Johnny Damon would've sufficed. To make a guy your primary DH when he was 10 seconds away from being DFAd before scooping him up from superstar Brian Anderson is indefensible. -

QUOTE (Ranger @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) No doubt they're better, but it isn't why they lost. Pitching (especially the bullpen in the last couple of months) screwed them last year more than anything else, and this year the outcome will again re st mostly on pitching. The 2010 outcome really had very little to do with Kotsay. You say this all the time. Just because the supposed strength of the team underachieved doesn't mean you can't compensate in other areas. Kotsay was a joke. Everybody knew it before the season. He reinforced that with his pathetic performance. Thing is I'm not mad at him. That was all Ozzie and KW. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 05:58 PM) He should of been WS MVP IMO. I agree. Watching him and Uribe gobble up everything in site that series was a thing of beauty. But the writing has been on the wall for a while. I wish Joe well.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 07:51 PM) I agree. What are the bets for this year? 4 IP, 6 ER? Are you serious? You're more negative than me of late. I think you're wrong if you are. But I love it.

Mark Buehrle talks about the future after 2011

QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 11:48 AM) His only Cy Young caliber season was 2005. And TBH he deserved it over Fartolo. Too bad Johan was actually better. That was the biggest farce of the last decade. Fortunately, Saber stats won't allow that s*** to happen again. Johan was like MJ while Bartolo was Reggie Miller that year. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 11:52 AM) Who gives a hoot about his peripherals? We know what we're getting from him every year, he's a guy that his secondary stats mean absolutely nothing. I know that. I was complimenting him. He rises above his actual talent. Where as sombody like Javy Vazquez consistently pitches below his talent.

QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 08:04 AM) Buehrle is the best 4th starter in baseball. As long as he wants to be paid like a 4th starter after this year, he can stay as long as he's putting up 32 starts and 200+ innings. That would be Cole Hamels. But I get the point you were trying to make. -
Chris Sale Will Start the Season in the Bullpen

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 07:45 AM) Well, I'll half agree on Strasburg because Sale doesn't top 99...but the fact that he's a lefty and your 2 comps are righties changes the game. Um, no it doesn't. At least not with Strasburg. He's got 3++ pitches with freakish velocity. It doesn't matter that he doesn't throw left-handed. -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 07:44 AM) Like you just said... his stuff has always been mediocre by some standards and we all have seen him get absolutely pounded on the mound. I just think that those bad games will be more frequent as he gets older and that it might be coming up on the right time for the Sox to rid themselves of MB before he becomes terrible. Well that's true. His stuff is mediocre by most standards. I just don't see this decline you're hinting at. At least not in 2011. -
QUOTE (YASNY @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 07:36 AM) Not a shot at you in any respect. I just appreciate the career Buehrle has had with Sox. No doubt about it. Mark is one of my heroes. I can't, and quite frankly refuse, to picture him in another uniform. But I've learned, and I'm not at all saying that your incapable of doing this, to separate emotion from what's best for the team. It kills me to this day how Frank left. But his time with this organization had come. I guess what I'm saying is that Danks, not Mark, should be the main priority next offseason. No problem, yas. I didn't take it that way. I just wanted to make my point clear. I love Mark and want him here forever if possible.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 07:30 AM) I'd almost be willing to bet you that he doesn't win 10 games in a Sox uniform this year. Did Michael Vick hack into your account? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 07:13 AM) If this team fails to win the Central this year, I'd expect M-56 will be allowed to walk and the team will go for a rebuilding effort. If the team wins, they're going to keep the band together for one more year. It would be the ugliest rebuild in team history. And I'm one that would be all for it if we get raped by the Twins again. But when you've got as many question marks as we have with the rotation after '11, combined with the natural disaster that is the farm, I think unfortunately we'd be looking at multiple 2007-like seasons. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 07:22 AM) I think the AL Central has and will continue to figure him out. You can only fool people with junk for so long. IMO it's time for him to go before he turns awful. Again, I don't see how Mark would just all of a sudden start to suck outside of injury. His stuff has always been mediocre by many standards. And he continues to get the job done. -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 07:03 AM) I don't think he should get a 2 year contract from the Sox. He's at the age where he's bound to start a deep decline. Another team will probably outbid the Sox for his services, and he'll go elsewhere, and the Sox will IMO be better off with the cost savings. How? Will his FB velocity go from 86 MPH to 84? Long as he remains healthy, he's got another 5 solid years, IMO. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 02:03 AM) I love Buehrle. I'd really love to see him one day win a Cy Young, but that's probably not gonna happen unless he takes some of Paul Konerko's career revitalizing potion. He would have to go '05 and then some for that to happen. Mark is what he is at this point. No upside or downside. You're gonna get the innings. The 30+ starts. He's going to give up a s***load of hits. The peripherals will be mediocre. But he'll continue to overcome that like he has his entire career and do what he does. I'll be just fine with that. -

I'm in, Don. I'm counting on you when you say the draft shouldn't take anymore than 3 hours. Lol. It's cool if it does, though. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 02:30 AM) It would be a damn shame to never allow Sale the chance to fail at being a starter. You, sir, are a negative poster. Lol. I agree with you completely by the way. This franchise is in no position to be dicking around the only legitimate SP prospect we have. -
QUOTE (YASNY @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 01:14 AM) Let's review. Perfect game, no-hitter, World Series save, kick save play on opening day, hell, even a dinger. Nah, Buehrle's been boring. Let him walk. Not sure if that was a shot at me. But if you take the emotion out of it, which I concede is very hard to do in this case, he's not going to be worth $14 million a year from this point on. And I'm almost certain the Sox feel the same. I want Mark to finish his career in Chicago. But at a reasonable cost. Not to overpay for nostalgia purposes.
-
His ability to eliminate the opponents' running game somewhat negates his mediocre peripherals. And he's certainly not a $14 million dollar a year pitcher. But it would be a sad, sad day were Mark to go elsewhere.
-
I love drunk Heads. Anyway, best transaction of the KW era as far as I'm concerned. My top 3 relievers go Mariano, Soria, Thornton.
-
I've seen enough. LeBron James is the best player in the league. But D-rose is the MVP for 2011. That was a spectacular performance.

QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 06:53 PM) Jake Peavy is going to have to be the fifth starter.. there's nothing else to say about that 5th spot. The Sox are screwed if it's not him, and he'd better pitch like a #1 or #2 starting in June or so. He can skate by as a #5 in the early parts of the season (high-quality, short outings will be fine by me), but once he hits full strength, I hope that re-attached shoulder carries the Sox all the way to the World Series. I'm a HUGE Jake Peavy fan. I will never get on KW for trading for him. He's a legitimate ace when healthy. I just have serious doubts on if will ever get the ace version of Peavy.
