QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 06:39 PM) Imagine where this team would be right now if we had Danny Richar. God dammit, brings a tear to my eye. Nick Masset would be nice. But wait, Coop couldn't fix him.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) I still think the Griffey trade was the worst ever. He had nothing left. Swisher was at least defensible at the time it happened, but Griff never made sense. Point being- just because it hasn't worked lately and we're a little upset at times doesn't mean he's ever gonna stop doing it. Switching Morel for Young sounds exactly like a KW move and I'm gonna be super nervous until Young lands somewhere else. For all we know, KW might think we have a gaping hole at 3B and that stance has some argument to it, even though most of us probably disagree (maybe not, but we do). Will never know until Morel gets a legitimate shot. I'm not saying he should be handed anything. But to continously trade off young 'spects in this neverending quest to 'go for it' every year when this formula has proven to be futile is not very intelligent. Don't get me wrong. I'm not at all saying guys like Morel and Dayan are untouchable. But not for a 34-year old, defensively-challenged player in decline. I don't care how much money we'd get back.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 05:26 PM) Shocked to see the Tigers 5th... No way in hell they should be ranked that high. But I do think they could be pretty good.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 05:18 PM) Even in his decline, Michael Young's numbers will blow away Brent Morel in 2011. That's winning now. Yes, because the KW formula of jettisoning away young talent in order to win now has proven to be very successful of late.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) This rumor is already making its way around, it seems. I walked into my house and the first thing my roommate says to me is that he heard the Sox traded for Michael Young. Unless it happened in the 15 minutes it took me to get home from work, I knew it had to be false, but checked online anyway. He said he was told that it was Young + cash for Teahen + Viciedo + a minor league pitcher. Viciedo? You think I was bad after the Hudson trade? My wrath would be godlike if that abomination were to occur.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) In other words, you don't think Brent Morel will be a starter any time in the next 3 years. (Like it or not, that's what that trade would entail.) Agreed. There's no way Young comes here to be a part-time player. He would get 600 at-bats. Easy. And another White Sox prospect would bite the dust.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) Really, you'd be surprised if Buster Posey outperformed Brian McCann this year? In 2/3 of a season last year, Posey put up an .862 OPS. McCann has put up better than that number only 2 seasons in his career; 2006 and 2008. The last 2 years, he's put up .834 and .828 OPS's. Posey could always pull a 2nd year Beckham, but there's nothing outrageous about expecting him to outperfom McCann next year. Maybe, maybe not. McCann has been the best catcher not named Mauer for the last 5 years. He's proven. There's no worrying if he can repeat or maintain his performance. Don't get me wrong. I love Posey. But there's no way he should be ranked ahead of McCann. Unless you (not you) are intoxicated off of World Series kool-aid.

QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 11:26 AM) Catchers: 1. Joe Mauer 2. Buster Posey 3. Brian McCann 4. Victor Martinez 5. Yadier Molina 6. Carlos Santana 7. Carlos Ruiz 8. John Buck 9. Kurt Suzuki 10. Matt Wieters Posey over McCann? Wow, I generally like MLB Network. But they really dropped the ball with these lists.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 02:06 AM) No f***ing contest, my friend. (the 2nd was off Borowski) Lol. I can't believe you have that. And I don't know why I thought that second one was off Wood. Nice. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 01:24 AM) Yeah, both seem like defensive wiz's, but Drew has higher offensive upside. Drew is third amongst all qualified SSs in OPS the last 3 years. He's an extra base machine. He's recorded more triples than any player in baseball since '08. Yes, more than Carl Crawford. What's crazy is most view him as an underachiever. If he can just be a tad more consistent (a few more HRs would be nice as well), he's easily the top SS in the game not named Hanley or Troy.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 01:01 AM) There is no excuse for Alexei to not be on everyone top 5 list, and I'd even put him at #3 behind Tulo and Hanley. I'm inclined to agree with you. Though I'm predicting a mega breakout year from Stephen Drew. I've been a huge fan of his for a while.
-
Wow, some of those are horrible. Upton and Ramirez are ranked way too low. From the pitching side, Johnson and Marmol should be ranked way higher. Honestly, and this pains me to say this, if Marmol could just knock that BB/9 to 4.0 I might rank him at #1 for RP. No reliever on the planet has as good a stuff as Marmol, and that includes Rivera. 16.0 K/9. Get the f*** outta here. That's just not right. Lol. I just noticed no Rios on the CF list.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 12:27 AM) Personally, I was a fan of Lillibridge's home-run and casual walk after he slammed a monster 3-run HR to center..... http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=8845663 Ahh, remember that one quite well. I was listening on the radio and Farmio kept going on and on how Lilly had tattooed that sucker. I figured he was exaggerating. I saw that exact clip you posted later that night and was stunned. -
Twins could be looking to deal Liriano
Jordan4life_2007 replied to joejoesox's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 11:05 PM) Nathan's contract expires after this season, though their is a club option worth $12.5 million or a $2 mill buyout. Liriano is also a free agent following next season, so while you are correct in stating that his salary will be above $10+ mill over the next couple years, he will only be under team control for one more. I also think he's going to at least have to have another year similar to last season for his salary to jump 250% next season. Beyond any of that, Joe Mauer is one of the most valuable players in the game today and is a player who can pretty much literally win you a division title on his own. You don't let that go, consequences be damned. Yup. Mauer and Pujols are probably the only two players in baseball you go all out for and not worry about future repercussions ( I think Longoria will be another one of those guys once he becomes a FA). -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 11:22 PM) Better bat-flip? AJ's or PK's after that second bomb off Wood in '02? -
Oh, not that this is any surprise. My new keeper list is Pujols, Tulo, Cano, Price and Kershaw. God damn I'm gonna miss Cargo. But a Tulo-Cano middle infield is as good as it gets. I might be comin' back at you after the draft Stevo.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) And what would the Bulls give up to get Ellis? Rose? Silence. Let us dream. Just like I dream to one day get with Miranda Cosgrove after she turns 18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 10:11 PM) That'd be a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE addition. We'd be the east favorite. Unfortunately, like Dbaho pointed out, we'd have to part with the MVP for that to happen.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) Gar/Pax needs to talk to GS about Monta Ellis. I'd buy ten authentic Juan Pierre jerseys if we landed Ellis. He and Blake are my two non-Bulls favorite players in the league.

QUOTE (IChaseBlackWood @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) Thank you fellas!!! AND no, we are not the same height hahahaha ...he is about 2 inches taller than I am! He's 5'10", but he'll tell you around 6' if you ask him directly!! lol ..that's a running joke of his ...he's "tall as s***!" Well going by your avy he's definitely not 6 feet. Lol. Again, congrats.
-
Zoom, me and Steve agreed to a trade. I'm giving Miggy, Cargo and Garza for Pujols and Kershaw.
-
QUOTE (Felix @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) I wouldn't say that's the case either. We play at the highest pace in the league which certainly inflates our raw PPG. We shoot fairly poorly as a team despite shooting well from beyond the arc, but until the team becomes more efficient (and less turnover prone), I'm not going to say they're fine offensively. You guys play at a higher pace than G.S.? That's surprising.
-
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) No, that was my temporary fix for the "league is full" error. ok cool. Just let me know. Because I'm not even sure what I did the first time. I got the invite and signed up from the same e-mail I always have. Does it matter that my league nickname was different? I changed it back to Jordan4life_2006 where before it was 2010.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 05:16 PM) He never had a team to win a title, he just didn't. That's up for debate. But that's not really my point. I'm not saying he was a bad coach. I think he's been as good as one can be without winning a title. I'm just saying I don't view this as a tragedy that he's gone. It's a new era now. I think Barkley said it best. This seems like a case of old school clashing with new school.
-
Congrats. And this is totally off-topic. But are you guys the same height? It looks like even without the heels you're the same height.
