  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) Dan reports his rehab is going well. He's in the final stages, in Arizona. He feels he'll be unlimited when mini-camp starts in late Feb, should be right back to it by then. I'm hoping for B-Ham for him, I'm sure he hopes for the same. They may keep him in W-S if they are unsure about his recovery, but I suspect if he starts mini-camp looking like his old self, he'll be in AA for 2011. I'd say at 25-years old it's time for AA.
  2. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 09:07 PM) The better team and QB won the game, not much to it. I was getting sick of congratulating you every other year. : Props to the Packers.
  3. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) "this is probably my second favorite move of the off-season" really? behind Konerko... and Dunn... and Alexei... and Danks... and Ohman... and Quentin... and AJ? put me on record as saying I believe Milledge will make the Major League roster, I'm just not sure if it'll happen in time for Opening Day. I believe he could have something to prove (other than being an a$$hat) and do well in the White Sox organization. if not, cya! Well, for one, I don't consider year-to-year arbitration signings great 'moves'. Why on earth would I consider bringing CQ back a good move anyway? Maybe I should've said second favorite acquisition? And lol at being giddy over Will Ohman.
  4. lostfan called it with the body odor. You're obviously going to have excess sweat flying all over the place. Which I don't have a problem with. As I sweat pretty hard when doing cardio. But no need to compound that by not showering or wearing deodorant before a workout or even worse wearing non-clean attire while working out.
  5. The Celtics are just a terrible match-up for the Magic. And Gilbert Arenas is bad at basketball.
  6. The "all-in" epidemic is getting out of hand now. I feel like I hear this term every five seconds. Think of something else, people!
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) Yankees sign Ronnie Belliard, Eric Chavez to minor league deals. Chavez, Prior, Colon and sweaty. Hmmmmm.
  8. Cavs set a new NBA record with their 24th consecutive loss last night. The've lost 34 of 35. But Dan Gilbert did promise that Cleveland will win a title before Miami. So all is not lost.
  9. The Warriors did as good a defensive job on Rose as I've seen all year. Yes, the Warriors.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 10:41 PM) I would say that value is approximately $14 million a year. Unfortunately, I don't think rival GMs will reference fangraphs when evaluating his worth.
  11. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 11:36 PM) Most of the Royals fans I know are tired of hearing about the future. They've heard about great prospects (Alex Gordon most recently) that either weren't successful or got traded before they could get them any help (Dye, Damon, Beltran, Greinke) for years. Royals fans aren't excited. Then they may as well switch teams or find another sport. Because that farm is their only hope. I have to imagine there's some excitement with caution, atleast.
  12. French vanilla cappuccino The end
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) How did the Sox offer to Danks compare to what Johnson/Verlander/Gallardo and crew got? I dont expect them to offer him a nine digit contract that free agency will get him, but if they offered him something similar to the comparables, then you cant be too upset, it will be on him. If they didn't, then it kind of sucks, I'm not aware of what their actual offer was. I'd have to google or check Cots. And do we have any specifics on what Danks has been offered outside of that pathetic initial lowball?
  14. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 07:11 PM) Addition by subtraction by getting rid of Wells, adding Rajai Davis, a full season of Yunel Escobar, and J.P. Arencibia (if he lives up to potential), a much improved bullpen and a bounceback year from Aaron Hill could mean a pretty solid team with the likes of Ricky Romero, Brandon Morrow, and Brett Cecil holding down the top of the rotation. I think they made some nice moves under the radar. It's a lot of "ifs" but so are the Orioles, Rays and Yankees. All you did was just throw out a bunch of best case scenarios. I'm one that thinks the Jays are in a great position right now. But they didn't make any "improvements." Any improvements they make will come from within.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) What's to worry about? You get the services of a pitcher supposedly worth 100 million for 2 season while trying to win a championship. Why worry about having the talent? Its here. Trading him for prospects and finishing in second or third place again would be ridiculous. If he does leave, you spend the money you would have spent signing him on someone else, and there is your trade, ala the Lee/Pods trade. Throw in the longshot draft picks and its a no brainer what the better option is considering the Sox current situation. BTW,Trading him now for prospects now will never happen. KW loves Danks too much, and is trying to win. Dumping him are how the Rays and Marlins and Indians operate. He's obviously not going anywhere this year. Next year is when it gets interesting. I guess the point is this isn't even a conversation if Danks is already locked up. Just like the Tigers locked up Verlander. Just like the Marlins locked up Johnson and Nolasco. Just like the Brewers locked up Gallardo. Just like the Mariners locked up Felix. Just like the A's locked up Anderson. And in your perfect scenario, I'm supposed to believe that if they're too cheap to pony up the cash for one of the few elite talents we've had in the last decade that they would use whatever money they had to legitimately fill the massive void Danks' departure would create? Not likely. I think what KW and Co. Thought was that because Gavin chose the security that Danks would. Well they were wrong.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) Texas also has some guys who are close to knocking on the door of that rotation though...Tanner Sheppers, Blake Beaven, Danny Gutierrez, and Martin Perez (although he's probably a little farther away). And even if those guys aren't fully ready, they've got the depth to make a big time move if a pitcher gets on the market again without even blinking. Oh, and the question "If Texas gets any kind of offense"....Yeah...when do they not? Even in a down year they'll have a top 5 offense in the AL. I haven't read a thing about Scheppers being a rotation candidate. Everything points to him at least starting out in the 'pen. And yes, they've got the farm to land a starter. But they didn't land Greinke or Garza when both would've been obvious upgrades. Their system did take a hit between promtions and trades. Makes you wonder if they want to really further deplete their system depth. And you can't possible think I was talking about the Rangers offense? I was referring to Oakland's.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) Don't teams trying to win a championship trade prospects for pitchers like Danks, studs with 2 years left on their contract rather than vice versa? The window here isn't very huge with this rotation. The time is now, not hoping guys pan out in 5 years. A lot of people are assuming Danks is gone in 2 years. Well, Konerko was gone, AJ was gone, Buehrle and Dye were gone in 2007. The list goes on. And none of those guys were going to command 5-6 year, $100+ million dollar contract on the open market. This is really a first during the KW era. A young, premium talent in his prime that could very well hit FA. We haven't had to worry about this because we don't do young talent here.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 03:35 PM) Oakland? Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see Oakland win that division. Their pitching from top to bottom is as good, if not better, than any team in the AL. They can also catch the baseball. If they can get any kinda offense, and it should at least be better than last year, they'll be real tough. I'm not sold on that Texas rotation at all. I see some extreme regression from multiple guys.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 08:06 AM) So does this move mean that Luke Scott moves out of the DH spot and back to the OF? Yes, Luke Scott will be the primary LF with Pie backing him and Adam Jones up. Looks like Nolan Reimold is the odd man out.
  20. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 02:52 AM) Got mine today. It's funny how excited I am to read about our awful minor league system. Imagine how excited die hard Royals fans must have been when they got their copy... Not hard when they've had next to nothing to get excited about for two decades. But yeah, they are loaded. They're going to be real good soon.
  21. QUOTE (joeynach @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 02:11 AM) I dont get it, they have a division that basically gurantees the Yanks and Red Sox playoff berths. They added about $30M in payroll this year and for what. What is so special about 2011 that warranted Vlad on a 1 year deal, DLee on a 1 year deal, Ducescher on 1 year deal, trade for Reynolds, trade for Hardy, and a 2 year deal for Kevin Gregg. Im not saying they didnt get better, but they did all this to go from 66 wins in 2010 to maybe 74 if things work out for them in 2011. Whats the point, yeah they will draw some more fans, but id rather just keep a low payroll and let my kids and young pitching staff develop and get major league time. Looks to me they've supplemented their young core with proven, still productive vets. Their prospects for '11 ultimately will come down to said core. Nick Markakis has had two down seasons in comparison to his breakout '08 that net him a 6-year, $66 million dollar deal. But this is the mythical 'age 27' season for him. Adam Jones sucked most of last year. But he did finish strong, is only 25 and has as much defensive ability as any CF in the majors. And like I said in the catch-all thread, Matt Wieters has been a big buzz-kill considering the hype. But he's like 23, I think. And only Matusz has shown anything at the major league level, he was sick the last two months or so last year, out of the much ballyhooed bevy of high-ceiling pitching prospects they were thought to have had a couple years ago. I guess what I'm saying there's still quite a bit of upside here. They won't win the division. But a Blue Jays type season from a year ago could be attainable. Which would be a huge step in the right direction for that franchise.
  22. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 01:36 AM) I think the O's pitching staff actually has some talent in it. Arrieta and Tillman were considered top pitching prospects and if Duchscherer stays healthy between him, Guthrie, and Matusz it could be worse. Tillman and Arrieta have been very underwhelming so far. But, yeah. Both are still very young and there's still plenty of time for them to put it together. I wouldn't expect a thing from Duchscherer. I'd be surprised if they got 100 innings from him.
  23. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 01:39 AM) Right but Cliff Lee was not a factor in their regular season success last season so I still don't see that as a blow. That's not the point. Last season was last season. Now a bunch of no- names that came outta nowhere have to do it again. If you have Lee, you have a lot more margin for error if there is some regression. Which most agree is imminent. Unless you're one that can honestly look at that rotation on paper and be confident of a repeat. In which you would definitely be in the minority.
  24. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 10:50 PM) Cliff Lee only had 15 starts for the Rangers, went 4-6, and had an era around 4... I agree that it hurts them in the post season but as far as regular season goes that isnt a factor at all. Yes, but now instead of having one of the top three pitchers in the game lead your staff from day one, there's now an infinite amount of more pressure on super studs like Colby Lewis, Tommie Hunter, and C.J. Wilson to duplicate, if not exceed, what they did last year. I don't like the odds of that happening. Losing Lee was a mammoth blow. Sure, they could still win that division. But it's going to be much more difficult.
