2010 Minor League Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 26, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Yep, and the Padres took Donovan Tate 3rd and the Orioles took Matt Hobgood 5th. You can't predict something like Mike Trout's emergence, and it's entirely possible that he isn't anywhere close to the same prospect in Chicago due to different organizational philosophies. There really shouldn't be a single person on here who was disappointed by the Jared Mitchell pick, because he is still an incredible talent and could very easily develop into a great leadoff or #2 hitter down the road. Then maybe we need to change our philosophy? I agree with your post for the most part. But you kinda made an argument without really meaning to in favor of people like myself that hates our overall drafting/development philosophy.

I've kinda given up on Nevin Griffith. Seems like he's going to be one of those high-risk, high-reward guys that inevitably fall into the prospect abyss due to injuries.

Idea: Trade Jackson for Joba
QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Jan 26, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) I think it's Edwin's ceiling that gets people excited, if he performs as well as the flashes he has shown, he'll be a damn good pitcher. The 2008/2009 Edwin Jackson is the guy who people are excited about. Edwin Jackson is an extremely good option as the #5 pitcher in the rotation. Whoopie! A #5 starter. Nothing says getting optimal value for your top pitching prospect then a #5 starter.

Bartolo Colon signs with Yankees
QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Jan 26, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) I think the desperate state of the Yankees starting pitching warrants its own thread. The fact that they're even sniffing around Bartolo Colon is a story. It really doesn't. But if you say so. I'll make sure to keep tabs on all Yankee minor league pitching transactions from now on so I can immediately start a thread when a signing occurs.

Bartolo Colon signs with Yankees
Did this really warrant its own thread?

Idea: Trade Jackson for Joba
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 26, 2011 -> 02:17 PM) Of course, over his past 3 seasons, which spans 606.2 IP, he has put up a 37-32 record, a 4.15 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, improved control from his first few years in the majors, and an improving K-rate. Oh, and his HR/9 is 1.1 over that time, but that's manageable. Speaking of his K/9 rate - it was 5.3 in 2008 when most people thought he was just lucky. It moved up to 6.8 in 2009 with the Tigers, and it was 7.8 this past year in Arizona and Chicago (including 9.2 during his 75 innings with the White Sox). He's not the same pitcher he was his first few years in the league and using those numbers to skew his most recent statistics doesn't show his true value as a pitcher. You know that and you're better than that. I can understand being upset about what the Sox gave up and that they didn't get an elite pitcher back and any number of other things, but suggesting he's a mediocre or even bad pitcher is wrong. Edwin Jackson is pretty damn good. Pretty damn good? He's been about league average the last three years [think Bronson Arroyo] and is the epitome of inconsistency. Javy Vazquez with slightly worse stuff.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jan 26, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) indians/nats talking about sizemore and carmona deal(s) Interesting. Don't see why the Indians would deal Camona with their current SP situation. He's relatively cheap and had a very solid '10. Maybe they're trying to sell high in the event he reverts back to his '08/'09 form. Trading Sizemore right now would be foolish. As his value is at its lowest, and I can't imagine any team giving up anything that would be better than just seeing if he can bounce back and be the player he was two years ago.

Idea: Trade Jackson for Joba
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 26, 2011 -> 12:01 PM) It is more of a product of people looking at who was traded for him than actually what he can do. He can easily be the White Sox best pitcher next season and one of the best in baseball. No, it's more of a product of his career 48-51 record, 4.62 ERA, 1.462 WHIP, mediocre peripherals, only 1 year left on his current contract and his agent, whom we don't deal with.

I'm pretty sure there were a few people here that wanted Trout at #23 if he was still available. Ended up taking Mitchell, obviously, with Trout going two picks later to the Angels. I know, I know. Hindsight. Whatever. Just hope Mitchell bounces back big time this year.

Jays trade Wells to Angels for Rivera/Napoli
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) Given the big advantage of the ballpark they play in, their offense wasn't actually that spectacular last year. They put up a .757 team OPS. The White Sox were right behind at a .752 OPS. They've replaced Guerrero's production with Beltre's (although you know how I feel about that), but they were still looking at having a couple of weak positions there, at 1b and at C. Don't forget that Cruz/Kinsler spent a considerable amount of time on the DL and Hamilton missed the last month. If they can stay reasonably healthy, I see their offense being substantially better. And it's going to have to be. As I'm not a big believer in their starting rotation after losing Lee.

Bears versus Packers game thread
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) If only we had Twitter and the even more intense coverage back then...? Doesn't hurt that the Patriots won that game. And Brady was still a relative unknown at that point. You pro-Cutler guys are throwing out guys like Benson and Brady and looking at it strictly through a vacuum.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) I thought it might be a good idea to keep Kotsay around. He'd make an excellent bat for Dunn. I think you're being serious. lol. You mean as a occasional DH or starter at 1B, right? He's not a bad player if used correctly. Just like Mackowiak and Wise weren't bad players if used properly.

Bears versus Packers game thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Kind of like Cutler was ripped by Urlacher after the Bears dealt Orton. And it was squashed like two seconds later. And I don't get a boner to whatever Brian Urlacher is thinking regardless. That was over two years ago. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Would you continue to respect a QB who gave up on your team and faked an injury because he was losing at halftime? How the hell is anybody gonna know for certain IF he was faking or not? I mean, I don't think he was but let's not act like there's no reason to question the guy. He WAS hurt. But was he HURT? That's the question. I don't recall a single person ever denying that he didn't get hurt. COULD he have played? That's the argument. And all you guys are acting like somebody raped your mothers. I stayed out of this thread. I do my Bears posting on another site. But this s*** is ridiculous. I would've been suspended long before now. Props to Shack, fathom and sqwert for keepin' it clean.

Bears versus Packers game thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 02:38 PM) We are just throwing out facts that support our notion. What you suggest involves every player on a team defending a player. That just doesn't happen. Regardless of who that player is and when the player is someone that some posters on here have suggested is not liked in the clubhouse (I personally don't believe that and think by and large he's at the a minimum respected) than it makes me believe even less that it would be possible for everyone to cover it up. Benson was a non-proven rookie who reported to camp late and thought he was the s*** before taking a single snap. Not at all a legitimate comparison. He warranted hate from the start.

Bears versus Packers game thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) Regardless. He was an unliked player that got chewed out and the Bears teammates didn't try to protect him or cover anything up. lol. So what? That was f***ing 4 years ago. How many players from that team are still on the current team? And you can't compare Benson to Cutler anyway. Totally different set of circumstances. And for the record, not that my opinion means a damn thing, but my respect for Shack, Sqwert and fathom has f***ing tripled in the last two days. They've been fair, constructive and respectful. The rest of you guys need to take a f***ing valium. Is Cutler paying your bills or something? Now people know what I was talking about when I went off a couple weeks ago.

Viciedo to the OF
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 10:28 AM) Sweet. Does he have any other stats? Not a one besides that. He plays a good LF as long as he doesn't have to throw the ball more than 5 feet. Other than that, he's slightly better than Pablo Ozuna.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
Reds sign Johnny Cueto to 4 year, $27 million dollar deal. Buying out all of his remaining arbitration years and 1 FA year. The Reds aren't really 'locking' their young studs up by true definition [aside from Bruce], but they're possibly saving themselves quite a bit of money in the long run.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 07:50 PM) With Rose, Wade and LeBron, they all can go a combine 120 inches in the air. That's just three players. Throw in Dwight Howard and we'll say Amare, and that's between 180-200 inches in the air. Insane! Well yeah, though I don't think Wade and especially Amare have 40 inch verticals. But there's a heck of a whole lot more to athleticism then your vertical.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 07:37 PM) Just thinking out loud but the probable starting lineup for the Eastern Conference all star team is just absurd as far as talent and athleticism are concerned. True. I'd rank the '96 East all-stars of Hill/Penny [many have totally forgotten how good those two were before all the injuries], Jordan, Pippen and Orlando Shaq as the best starting 5 I've seen for an all-star game in regards to talent/athleticism.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 03:25 AM) Something tells me that Humber will be better than any AAA starter we have right now. No one else posted a 4 K/BB last year. Not saying Humber is anything special, but I'd certainly give him just as much of a chance as Harrel, Marquez, or Hynick. Considering the state of our SP depth in the minors I'd say that wouldn't be too hard to accomplish.

All I have to say is lol at this thread. These last 25 pages or so have been hilarious. I do most of my Bears posting over at the main site. But this thread is a keeper. Bickering, name-calling, mocking, ect...and J4L was nowhere to be found. lol.

JR says payroll is at 125 million
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) If that's how you want to define it, be my guest, I don't have a problem with it. I just counted my ticket stubs that I have saved over the last 7-8 years. I have 228 for the White Sox. I'm over going to games just for the hell of it. If they play like they did in April and May of last season, they don't deserve my money. If they come out strong, I'm more than happy to give the organization my money. More than happy. Call it whatever you want. I'm fine with it. Fair enough. I don't need the Sox to start out 25-10 before I get up off my ass and go to the park if I can afford it.
