  1. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) I think the only thing we've differed on is that I believe you stated that going after Jackson at all was a bad idea whereas I believe that he was a good target if you got him as a salary dump only. But I think our mutual love for the Phillies organization makes up for that. Good. I was starting to get worried. I never wanted Jackson under any circumstance. Although I will concede he pitched well for us in the 9 starts or whatever it was.
  2. And the death of shipps occurs on October 9, 2010. Sorry, my friend.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 07:12 PM) Why did Washington pull O'Day to let Feliz face Bartlett? Also, every time I watch Feliz, he's extremely unimpressive. You must don't watch him often? Dude is electric.
  4. Rays take the lead on a clutch single by Jaso? Anyway, I like both of these teams. I have no idea who to root for.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 06:38 PM) She's 17. I can see the appeal. I don't even want to think about how good she's going to look when she's 22 or 23. Yikes.
  6. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) You also have to factor in the opportunity cost lost with the additional $8 million Jackson has next year. If that detracts from the Sox being able to bring back Konerko or another FA than you have to account for that. It's like we're dating or something. Have we disagreed on one aspect of this trade? Throw in fathom and we can have a 3-some.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_leagu...?urn=mlb-275698 Funny column since it's poking fun at the Twins...but, indirectly at the AL Central teams like the Sox for getting run over 6 (almost 7) out of 9 years. As Dick Allen says, it's pretty hard to be overconfident as an organization when you've won a total of two post-season series in 93 years! Of course, the corollary to that is the last 11 years for the White Sox have been comparatively great as we've put up seasons with 95 wins, 86, 99, 90, 89 and 88 victories. Three?
  8. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) In 2011 we'll judge how that trade really pans out. The NL will have another look at Hudson. Jackson was an All Star in the AL and pitched very well there again for the Sox. It's going to take more than a year because Hudson is dirt cheap for the next 6 years and there's no guarantee will be able to resign Jackson after '11.
  9. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) Man, I've wanted the Sox to do something like this for the past few seasons. Nobody has the patience for it, though. Which is hard for me to understand. We've been to the playoffs 5 times in the last 27 years and yet this organization/fan base feel we're above and beyond a rebuild, or even a semi-rebuild. All I know is I've had it with these empty 2nd/3rd place finishes.
  10. As far as the age difference and stuff. Is it a bad thing that I have a crush on the main chick from ICarly? Is that pedophile territory?
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) Just because you don't know his name doesn't mean he wouldn't have been better than everyone in our rotation except D1. 116 ERA+ on the season, 7th in the AL in strikeouts, 3.72 ERA despite pitching in Texas. Yup. He and Wilson have both had fine seasons.
  12. Just joined. I'll send PMs to others.
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) Trading Hudson for Jackson was a mistake. Trading for Jackson without any salary relief when he should have been considered a semi-salary dump and giving up your best young MLB ready starter is ridiculous. Acquiring Jackson wasn't that bad of a move, it's the fact that what we gave up and got in return (no salary relief) will haunt this team this offseason. You know better than anybody how I feel about the trade. We've been tag-teaming this abomination since it happened. I was just responding to Sqwert's claim of what the trade meant for this season.
  14. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 02:09 PM) I can get behind this plan... That's probably the only way we could get to the playoffs.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) How can it not make a lick of sense? Sure it was a pretty awful trade to make but it was to give us a better shot at winning it this year. If Don Cooper is telling everyone he sees the flaw in Jackson and can tweak some things how does that not give us a good shot at winning the division this year? I don't think anyone in Sox management felt good about Hudson being in the rotation for a division race. Admittedly it was a long shot but we were at or near first place at the time and Hudson seemed like a risk to have in the rotation at the time. Kenny took a gamble for this year and it obviously didn't pay off. This whole thing of "not making any sense whatsoever" is a complete farce. Yes it made sense but it was a long shot, was short-sighted, and it didn't payoff. It made sense only in that Jackson has been around a few years and Hudson is a rookie. So it was just automatic to naturally think Jackson could help more. It sure as hell couldn't have been based on Jackson's performance to that point. Yes, I know. Coop saw something he could fix. Yadda, yadda. Then Coop should be put on notice (I know he won't be) if Jackson doesn't have a career year next year.
  16. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 12:37 AM) Am I missing something about Utah here? I've heard people having them in the top 3 of the West all week. No way this team is better than 7th in the West. I would go LA, OKC, Dallas, Denver, Portland & SA before Utah. After the Lakers, you could seed anyone of the next 7 teams in any order and you wouldn't look silly. Utah lost Boozer but gained Al Jefferson. Kirilenko is healthy and Deron Williams gets better every year.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 08:41 PM) Meh they did nothing at all to win this game today. The Reds lost this one themselves. If teams continue to hit their batters, and make tons of errors of course they won't lose but that team is beatable, especially if they face a lineup like the Yankees. You could say that about the entire postseason for the '05 White Sox. Fact is they're taking advantage of any mistake the opposing team makes. And I'll take my chances with Halladay, Oswalt and Hamels vs the Yankees any day.
  18. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) If you want that argument, that's fine. But also understand, it backs up my argument and KW's way of thinking even more. They realize they're not great at evaluating amateur talent, so they go ahead, and trade them when they're at their peak for guys who will be useful. So they go into every draft realizing they suck at it? Wow, that makes me feel real good as a fan.
  19. I have no idea who's going to beat the Phillies.
  20. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) He's always had that type of potential, the question is, can he put it together for a whole season? And that's why I said potential. He's already arguably the best defensive RF in baseball. He went nuts with the bat the last 6 weeks of the regular season. And he's only 23. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) Stat gurus, did Joey Votto ever end up popping up on the infield this season? Nope.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) Bulls***, the Rangers lineup isnt that good at all. The Twins with Morneau are much deeper than them. The Yankees are basically more stacked than any team in baseball, it has nothing to do with the divisions. Gotta disagree with you there, Rock. When they're all healthy, their lineup 2-6 is as good or better than any other in baseball. I agree with you about the Twins, though. People seem to forget that Morneau was on his way to an MVP season before going down.
  22. 3-0 Reds on a Jay Bruce HR. Bruce has the potential to be one of the top 5 players in the NL by 2012.
  23. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) The Sox have known they aren't gonna bring PK back for a while and Jackson is in the mix for 2011 -what the team knows is their last push before a new influx and a likely fall from contender. They have? Do you know something we don't?
  24. QUOTE (joeynach @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 05:17 PM) Im pretty sure the sox are at something like $74 before arbitration eligible players such as Jenks, Danks, CQ, Pena and before Free Agents, Putz, Vizquel, Konerko, and AJ. Bringing back all your arbitration guys your still at something like $92M before you have addressed vacancy at Catcher, 1B, Bullpen, and DH. Yikes, looks like something has gotta give here cuz we are not a $125M payroll team. Yet some don't understand why the Jackson/Hudson trade didn't make a lick of sense.
  25. Brandon Phillips gets Cincy on the board with a long bomb. I'm still pulling for my Reds.
