  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 08:18 PM) I'm talking about production. Rowand, production-wise, had a better year in 05 than what Rios has done this year. But from a talent and skill standpoint, I'd say Rios edges Rowand. Yeah, I think that's where the misunderstanding lies. From a pure production standpoint, Marlon Byrd is killing Franklin Gutierrez. But obviously Franklin based on talent/skill dwarfs Byrd.
  2. You could argue who was a better CF in 2005 (I think that's all chw42 is doing). Nobody would question who's the better CF overall. That's obviously Rios.
  3. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) King James' Rule? I'm pretty sure he no longer should be allowed to use the King moniker. King's don't play second fiddle and win rings. King James is a great nickname, but bad now for him. Maybe something like "The Decider" for him would be better. Also, the Bulls depth/flexibility to make trades is what sets this team up to do just about anything the next few years. It is? It's one of the most unoriginal, and more importantly retarded, nicknames in sports history. I thought this WAYYYY before the "Decision."
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 06:26 PM) We can afford Haren, we just don't need him. There's no need for this team to trade assets for pieces that don’t fill critical needs. I would agree with you were Peavy healthy.
  5. The Yankees must have zero confidence in Burnett/Hughes/Javy going forward.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Im pretty sure there were a lot of people saying the same thing in regards to Quentin over Dye last year. Good point. All you heard was get Quentin back to his "natural" position of RF and he would shine. Major disappointment.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) I agree, I see no problem with using Putz & Thornton or even Jenks depending on the situation. The most recent CBC this year was the Orioles, and that failed cause their best reliever was Will f***ing Ohman. It can work with good relievers. Alfredo Simon has been pretty decent.
  8. Count me as one that's not overly impressed with depth. At least not in the NBA. If you're playing 9-10 guys every night that usually means your top guys aren't that great.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 02:49 PM) I heard a guy call into The Score last night and tell Matt Abbatacola that he wanted Dye back because he was much better in RF than Quentin. How does greg know the number to the Score? He's from KC, right?
  10. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Is Hudson, Santos, and Thompson enough for Haren? No way that would be enough.
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) This year's CQ vs last year's JD. Which has been better defensively in RF? No, death is not an option. Damnit. Wow, this is tough. Whoopi Goldberg or Rosie O'Donnell? Death has to be an option in this case.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) I hadn't even looked at his UZR (though I just did now), I just basically assumed that there was no way he could be worse than Quentin. That's a pretty safe assumption. But I thought he was bad for some reason. Oh well.
  13. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 12:15 PM) Isn't Scott a butcher in RF? I thought the same thing for some reason. But according to UZR, he's been above average in both LF and RF for his career, though there's not a whole lot of data in which to judge. He's got a below average arm but well above average range.
  14. QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 01:25 AM) Home runs are down, sure, and so are his strikeouts. Hits, doubles, AVG, OBP, SLG, and OPS are up. What's really weird, is the drop off between his home and road splits, I don't understand that one at all. Defensively, he's no Gold Glover. He has improved drastically though, definitely average at worst at this point. His OPS is .849. It was .853 last year. So it's not up. It's basically the same. He's got 27 doubles as of right now. He had 51 last year. He'd have to go doubles crazy from this point on to top that, though I'm sure he'll get close. Like I said, I'm not saying he's a bad player. But his power relative to other players at his position is severely lacking. He's 15th in SLG% amongst all qualified 1B. And a .153 ISO is beyond pathetic.
  15. Awful is not even a good enough word to describe Jeff Francouer. Outside of the fact he has a ++ throwing arm, he's the very definition of replacement level player.
  16. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) This trend of "super teams" is extremely worrisome to me. It is NOT good for the NBA to have so many super stars in so few cities. Stern needs to find a way to stop this. I think this could be EXTREMELY damaging to the NBA if it continues. My solution is raise the max deals to 19-20 million but in act a hard cap. At least TRU will have another bandwagon to jump on when he gets tired of the Heat.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 10:06 PM) Are you kidding? Sure, he's not quite Albert Pujols yet, but he's going to be an absolutely outstanding hitter for like the next 15 years. I'm not sure if he's even 24 yet... He's not Cabrera, Howard, Fielder, Morneau, Tex, Konerko, Youk, Votto, Dunn or AGon, either. I'm not saying he's a scrub. But he's got one more HR than Angel Pagan. He's 6'2, 240 pounds and he's got James Loney power at the premier power position. I won't even get into his defense.
  18. Now greg can stop obsessing over whether or not KW will massively overpay for DeJesus. I'm actually a little bummed. I wouldn't have minded him for the right price.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 06:38 PM) I wish. I don't like Butler at all. He's a doubles machine and sports a nice OBP. But he's got pathetic overall pop for a player his size/position.
  20. I assume this is the end of the Brandon Wood era? Man that dude is garbage.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 05:26 PM) Bynum? Who would touch Bynum with his injury history?
  22. All I know is Heyward, Alvarez and Stanton get J4L extremely excited in more than just a baseball way.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) Stark. lol@"He'll hit some home runs." Gee, Stark really going out on a limb there. The only question for Alvarez in my mind is will he be able to stick at third. The guy's got Ryan Howard power potential. That type of production as a 3B=superstar.
  24. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 05:22 AM) In Cowley's article about the Sox interest in Fielder it mentions that KW has given Washington the entire minor league sysytem to pick from. The nice thing is Beckham, Hudson, and Viciedo are on the major league roster. That's like giving me the option to bone one of Beyonce, Meagan Good, Rihanna and Jennifer Hudson then saying I can only choose the plump one.
  25. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) While Adam Wainwright tries to keep pace with Johnson, 6 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 6 K. ERA at 1.94 It's a wrap if the Cardinals get Oswalt.
