One other thing to like about the Peavy trade
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) Wasn't one of those players Soto though? How hilarious would that be after the season he just had.

2009: A Big Step To Our Next World Series
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 09:05 AM) The question for me isn't if he could help in 2010, it is would he help more in 2010 right away, than he would help in later 2010 through 2016 with some more development under his belt. If you are talking about a guy like Carlos Torres who doesn't have a high ceiling it is one thing, but a guy who could make a large impact as a starter is another story. You take a special level of care and work for a guy like that. Couldn't agree more. I'd like to see the Sox draft/develop a SP that actually sticks with the club before, I don't know, 2025.

Will Beckham win AL ROY?
This was a very weak year for rookies. At least in the AL. So Beck's got that going for him. I see Andrew Bailey winning it. I'd imagine Gordon will finish at least in the top 3.

Fitting Ending to 2009 Season
Fitting end to the season? Give me a f***ing break. I can think of about 45840752723793287 things that happened over the course of the last 6 months that was 50 times more symbolic of this overall failed season than Rios grounding into a DP to end an absolutely meaningless game from our point of view. The I hate Rios gang seriously needs to give it a rest.

Kannapolis pitching staff emblematic of Sox system improvement
Excellent piece, NSS. I didn't even know Dan Remenowsky put up those numbers. I know it's low A ball and he is 23, but a K/9 of 15.49 is straight impressive.

how about konerko to the giants for
QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 05:39 AM) i dont think they would they need a hitter and they dont want to trade any of there top pitching prospects also as i read on other boards they might go after fielder but he will cost them much more then sanchez most of the talk is cain in a package and baumgerter so a sox sanchez for konerko plus maybe a prospect is not a bad trade . also sanchez is a player the giants are trying to move anyway . an for the those who think sanchez is not good well i guess you dont know to much more innings pitched to hits giving up plus more strikeouts per innings isnt good yeah he walks to many but that can be fixed he is 26yrs old . god koufax was terrible with walks when he first pitched but he found it and many others im not saying sanchez is koufax but he has great stuff and at 26 is a promising young lefthanded pitcher . and the giants want to trade him they need hitting and konerko wont cost them nearly as much as say gonzales or fielder What.The.Hell?

2009 MLB Catch-All Thread
And the Rockies pull to within 1 single game of the Dodgers. I believe they're 74-40 now under Jim Tracy. Ubaldo Jiminez is somethin' else. Man, say what you want about the NL. It is a joke for the most part. But one thing the league is definitely not lacking is young, disgustingly good starting pitchers. Lincecum is still king. But Jiminez, Josh Johnson, Dan Haren, Clayton Kershaw, Adam Wainwright, Matt Cain and such make me really horny.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 12:56 AM) It's easy to laugh now. Kenny thought Owens and Fields could play and Broadway could pitch, etc. No he didn't.

how about konerko to the giants for
QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:44 PM) I wouldn't take Sanchez for our 5th starter spot. He's simply not good. He walks the world. I think that would be wasting Konerko. You have pretty high standards for the 5th starter spot. Without going through every teams '5th' starter or '5th' best starter, I feel secure in saying Sanchez would be as good as it gets. Yeah, he's got control issues. But he's consistently put up some pretty nasty K rates as well. He's also pitched very well since the all-star break: 3.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, .208 BAA, 10.78 K/9. Of course, his BB/9 is still over 4. That seems to be his only legitimate issue. Anyway, the Giants would laugh in Kenny's face if he went dangling PK for Sanchez.

LMAO@this article
This is really random. Just happened to stumble across this when I was doing a google search of some White Sox related stuff. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...&id=2447208 This is downright comical over 3 years later.

Rays to trade Upton or Crawford
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) He was just amazing against Boston last year. He was pretty good against us as well.

Upton just hit for the cycle.

Sox vs. Tigers, Peavy vs. Jackson 10/2/09 6:05pm CSN/ESPN/MLB
Why do we care who starts opening day? That has to be the most overrated, overblown 'honor' a pitcher can supposedly get. As long as Peavy and Buehrle both makes 30+ starts I'm just fine.

Cowley and his Takes on the Sox
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) The one argument you could make that I might have cared about is that Richard in the 5th/4th starter spot might have won us a few games in the black hole after Conteras resumed stinking before Garcia and Peavy arrived. If we were 1 game out, then it'd have been something to be angry about. But really, he wouldn't have made JD hit better. Or Pena, Linebrink, Williams, f*** it, our entire bullpen pitch better. This was a TEAM failure all the way around.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) Does it bother anyone that we may help the Twins win the division? Not really. They'll get smoked in 3 by the Yankees.

Sox vs. Tigers, Peavy vs. Jackson 10/2/09 6:05pm CSN/ESPN/MLB
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) He still should have been shut down (everybody knew how good he is), but it was enjoyable to watch him pitch a few times in our uniform and get a preview of what he'll give us next year. But nobody knew how healthy he was. The ankle and the line drive he took. We now know for certain that those are non-issues and he's 100%.

This rotation is going to be somethin' special next year. And we still, IMO, haven't seen the best of Danks/Floyd.

What would it take to get Andrew McCutchen from the Pirates?
- 9/30 Sox @ Cle 6:05pm - Gm 2
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 09:29 PM) The boxscore for this game was hilarious. Great time to get our s*** together, when there's so little to play for. Dude, the Indians suck. I hardly call this "getting our s*** together." We missed the playoffs because we weren't worth of them. No matter what happens now.- According to Sun Times Kotsay wants to be back
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) This is my ideal bench for next year. Bench: FLowers- C Getz- Utility/platoon Kotsay-1b, DH, OF. Pods-OF, runner. That's actually a nice looking bench right there.- Rotten Tomatoes: Worst of the Worst
Glitter should've been in the top 10. And lol@One missed call. I saw that with a friend of mine. We literally demanded our money back (we obviously didn't get a dime back) after seeing that garbage. One movie that wasn't on the list that severely disappointed me was The Hillz Have Eyes part 2. I still die a little inside when I think about that epic disaster.- According to Sun Times Kotsay wants to be back
QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 09:22 PM) Mark Kotsay doesn't know how free agency will work out for him this offseason. But the reserve infielder/ outfielder does know where he would like to be come 2010. From the way White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has been raving about Kotsay's leadership and presence off the bench, the feeling seems to be mutual. I'd be willing to take him back for his wife alone. Think he'll be back? Do you want him back? No question. As long as he realizes that his role is that of a bench player.- 2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (G&T @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) Ricky Nolasco with a 16 K night. Another brilliant move there. Fanned 9 straight at one point. It's games like these I'm glad I subscribed to MLB.TV. Nolasco and Josh Johnson are f***in' spectacular. - 9/30 Sox @ Cle 6:05pm - Gm 2
