Daisuke Matsuzaka signs
I'm way too lazy to read through this whole thread. So forgive me if this has been mentioned before. Does Boston get that money back if they fail to reach a deal? LOL@them if they don't.

When will the Yankees come calling?
QUOTE(Jimbo @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 12:08 AM) Call me crazy but I really dont want prospects for our starting pitchers...I want proven talent. This is one of the reasons I WOULD NOT want to be in Kenny Williams' shoes right now. He's got to give us the best chance at winning it all in '07, while attempting to restock the farm system and keeping us competitive in 2008 and beyond. It's not gonna be easy. It seems to me some people want to have their cake and eat it too. That's why I would have no problem trading B-Mac in a package to get CC (Crawford) if we were able to land Pelfrey.

Mets looking to deal Milledge/Heilman?
I was peepin' this Mets board. I wanted to see their reactions to these lastest rumors. I think saying they're not happy is an understatement. http://amazinz.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18136

Mets looking to deal Milledge/Heilman?
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 01:19 AM) Question here, if we acquired Pelfrey, do you think the D-Rays would accept Pelfrey and Fields for Crawford? I'm starting to think Heilman and Fields may not be a good enough offer. You're just starting to think that?

Mets looking to deal Milledge/Heilman?
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 01:09 AM) I would understand Williams' reasoning for such a decision, but ultimately, I'd rather maintain both pitchers. How he may figure it, a player of Crawford's value is worth the addition of Pelfrey at the expense of Brandon. He's the protypical leadoff hitter. Once more power develops with plate discipline he'll be --without debate -- the best LF in the game. What I would disagree with unloading McCarthy, even for Crawford, because we're hardly in a better position pitching wise. Sure, we may have our #1 starter, but there's still several positions below him left empty. They're easier to fill but expensive to assemble. We would honestly have to put a lot of faith in Broadway making it to the majors by 2008, and perhaps one more pitcher emerging as well. Say what you want about Vazquez's overall numbers, he held the ability to dominate any ballclub. Without him and Brandon in the rotation -- and Garcia/Buehrle as potential FA past next year -- 2008 may not be too pretty. Don't forget ol' man Contreras and his cranky back and cramped legs every start. All very good points. I don't think any of this is gonna happen anyway. It's just hard not to get warm thinkin' about the possibility of Carl Crawford holdin' down LF of the next 7 or 8 years.

Mets looking to deal Milledge/Heilman?
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 12:49 AM) How many years have we had rediculus offense, and then we trotted the likes of Felix Diaz, and company out there. I would rather stock up on pitching, and just go easy on the bat in LF. Everyone looks at Carl and drools, but we all need to remember what happens to players when they come here. I dont care how they hit before, the minute the come into the homerdome they forget everything they have learned, and just lift and pull. Carl will become power Carl, and we will see less and less of his speed. You will just have another power guy in a lineup of powerguys. Bmac and Pelfrey with our current offense > Pelfry and current offense + Carl. Hell we might as well just kept Mags, Carlos Lee, and just stayed the good ol softball team we have been for years. Man, CC is one of the best all-around players in the game. The dude can do everything. I don't buy for a second he would become this "life and pull" guy if he came here. I feel you about the pitching. I'll just say I won't lose any sleep over losing B-Mac if we landed Pelfrey. That's just me, though.

Mets looking to deal Milledge/Heilman?
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 12:37 AM) I still wouldn't be a happy person. It'd ease the pain a bit if we got Pelfrey and I do love Carl but to me being able to pair Pelfrey and Brandon in the rotation for years to come would just be absolutely huge for this organization. You know how I feel about Brandon and to me trading him is just an absolute mistake at the moment even if we added a Mike Pelfrey type. I want as much good young pitching on this team as possible, not trading it for a position player, even one as good as Crawford. Rowand, my friend, Carl frickin' Crawford! I like B-Mac, too. But if Kenny was able to pull off what Tony proposed, I'd s*** my pants.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) What if Pelfrey was now in the Sox system, and Mac was dealt for Crawford? Nobody could b**** about that.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 12:21 AM) If we're trading Vaz, Pelfrey has to be involved, end of story. Agreed Sidenote: Vaz would dominate in the NL. Nobody can tell me different. I know he had a so-so year in 2005. But the NL is much worse now. Ask Jeff Weaver.

Knicks lose again. Make that 2-6. They should be 0-8. God I can't wait until draft night.

GM meetings are today
Good points Greatscott and Kyyle. I've definitely considered that. That could very well atleast be part of the reason it appears KW/Ozzie seem so set on finding a replacement. I'm not exactly sure where Ozzie is coming from, but I have a hard time believing Kenny would be so quick to give up on Anderson. Kenny had been talkin' the guy up long before this past season. Even said Brian made it easier to trade guys like Chris Young and Rowand. That's how much faith he had in the kid. And now after one year, a year that he was misused by his manager, you're lookin' to trade/replace him? I don't buy it. We didn't miss the playoffs this past year because of Anderson bat, or lack thereof. Hell, that's not even in my top 10 list of reasons why we didn't make the playoffs. This team has FAR more pressing needs than an upgrade in CF.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 07:21 PM) He sucked a lot at baseball. If only it were that simple. Guys like Joe Crede and Jon Garland "sucked a lot at baseball," too, their first year. Somethin' is clearly going on with Anderson that hasn't been made public yet.

What to do with Pods
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) Scott Podsednik has had 1 good half of baseball in 2 seasons with the Sox. Time for a change. Well, as far as '05 goes, he was very good in all but one month (August), and he was clearly hurting, as he ended up on the DL for a few weeks. So we can atleast give him that much. '06? Yes. He was very bad outside of the month of May.

What to do with Pods
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 07:46 PM) Podsednik is barely major-league ready. If he gets TWO MLB ready players, and they aren't Timo and Neifi Perez, KW should be crowned. Damn, Wite, that was wrong. You didn't have to diss Scotty like that.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) Tillman had a huge game, though it's unlikely that he'll actually recieve any props from the local media/Bears fans for his outstanding performance today. Good job, Kalapse. I'm glad you see it. Tillman gets raped by Bears fans for no damn reason. I'm glad he's on our side.

Trade Winds?/Good Suntimes Info
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) How would people feel about giving Walker and Speier around 4M deals for 2 seasons with a team option for a 3rd? (think of the deals Howry and Scott Eyre got last off-season). It significantly beefs up our pen, adding Speier and Walker to Jenks, MacDougall, Thornton etc. should definitely increase our bullpen ERA from last season which we majorly struggled at. Signing Walker gives you the flexibility to trade Cotts + prospect for say Coco Crisp as well, if you don't want to sign Pierre or Dave Roberts in the off-season. Wonder what the Angels would want for Figgins as well? I assume they're gonna go real hard after J.D Drew now since they missed out on Ramirez today. Dbaho, stop playing with my emotions. Our 'pen would be f***ing' sick!

QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Oh I agree I just wanted to throw that out there thats all . As far as Coco goes ,I think a more likely scenerio would be Garcia for Coco and a quality prospect or two . That I would not do. I think we can do better for Freddy. Then again, I'm not too familiar with the Red Sox system.

QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 02:58 PM) No thanks on Clemens. His numbers have looked good the last couple seasons solely because he was pitching in the NL. He sucked the last time he was in the AL with NY. He would basically be a more expensive Javy.

Trade Winds?/Good Suntimes Info
QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) I think KW agrees .Hes already said that he has no interest in trading Cotts so it would take something steller . Would you trade Cotts for Coco ? If we can sign Walker? HELL YEAH! The Red Sox wouldn't go for that, though.

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 11, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) ^ aaron was my favorite player while he was here, but BA has such a huge upside. We've seen how good arow can be and most of that was on the defensive side of the ball. Brian is arguably even better than aaron in that department. I just don't understand how people can't see the future of BA and how good he's going to be. It's a shame that Pods and Uribe sucked so much in '06. It just enhanced Brian's struggles. I think many knew Brian would probably struggle his first year. Not as bad as he did, but indeed struggle. He's already a GG cailber CF. The offense will come. No doubt in me mind. Sidenote: I love Rowand, too. But people need to wake up and realize that his '04 season was a classic fluke. He'll never match those numbers again.

QUOTE(Vance Law @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 01:03 AM) Thank you, Tony. Yes. It has nothing to do with the offense. You don't need to improve on the number 3 offense in baseball. The '06 offense beat the living crap out of the '05 offense (10th in AL) and they won the World Series because their pitching was tied for the best ERA in the league. In '06 the pitching gives up a full run more per game (10th best in the AL). An entire run per game worse. That's a joke. They'd probably make the playoffs even if they gave an extra .75 runs per game. They won the World Series with a crap offense and nobody said anything. Their pitching turns into s*** the next year, and everyone blames Podsednik, Uribe, and Anderson. ^^^ I don't think the '05 offense was crap, but it was FAR from great. It all starts with pitching.

USA TODAY BASEBALL WEEKLY TRADE SUGGESTION
Pass! No way in hell Kenny would make such a deal. I think A-Rod is the s***. But c'mon now. He would be a luxury. We don't need him to get back to where we were in 2005. Pitching, pitching, pitching!

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) Chone Figgins had a horrible year, but he straightened himself out eventually and started to hit better late in the year. He was also 52 of 68 in SBs, right around 76%. Juan Pierre was mediocre as hell, but he too atleast stole bases. 58/78, right around 74%. Podsednik was horrendous in the second half, and was 40/59 in SBs, or 68%, which is absolutely pitiful. Add to the fact that he was completely horrible defensively too, and I'd rather have Rickey Henderson leading off next year for the Sox rather than Podsednik. Once Ryan Freel was given a starting job after the Nats trade, he put up an OBP of .325 in August, and a .311 OBP in September, along with the fact that he's a lunatic. Give me Otis Nixon.
